Very well taught, i think the pace and the zoom ins and pointers work fantastic. Its short, it covers the topic without overwhelming too much. Which is perfect for beginners.
Thank you for this video! Easy English is used here (extra grateful as a non-english speaker), everything is shown and explained. Never used masks in my life and was always confused about them. Gotta experiment with them now :) I wish yall a good day!
Wow, that was a lot and so helpful. I need to go back through it a few times, but after doing that I should be able to apply all of this on my own. I've really had a hard time generally understanding masks in the past, but you broke it down very well and gave a lot of good examples for how they can be useful. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
I was confused by the differences between Photoshop and Clip Studio’s masking tools. I didn’t understand why the black/white masking rule didn’t transfer over. Thanks for explaining it clearly and concisely.
Thanks. I wanted to learn how to do a clipping mask and now I know. Can't belive there was a button I missed. Also control or alt or shift clicking on the layer/ mask in the layer view highlights the selection or shows the layer mask. Its a useful shortcut. I am just brain dead and can't remember which one does what. Sorry.
This was very helpful! I am also trying to find a video specially on how to paint only inside of a masked layer so I don't have to erase when I go outside of lines. Like for example, if I want to color only part of a drawing of a person; like just the hair. I'm sure there's lots of videos for it, I just don't know how to search it correctly or the name of the technique haha. Any video suggestions or tips would be appreciated!
It sounds like masks are exactly what you're looking for. You'll just need to select the area you want to color first (like the hair) and make sure it's the only opaque part of the mask, and then you can get rid of the selection. Any time you color on that layer, it'll only be inside of the mask. Hopefully I'm explaining that all right!
Hello! This is probably a long shot but is there a way to add a new layer that reacts to the layer below it? Say if I use the bucket tool on the blank top layer, it'll follow the pattern and contours of the layer below it?
That's exactly what clipping masks are for! :) I talk about them at about 3:20. Anything on the upper layer will only display where there's visible pixels on the layer underneath.

I always wonder if I'm explaining things well enough, so this makes me so happy to hear! I'm glad I could help.

Excellent, tnx.
great tutorial but tbh little things like the transparency thing annoy me about Clipstudio
That's fair - every program has its little quirks.
