Twin might not be overpowered for modern but it certainly homogenizes things and leads to a frustrating playstyle of "I need a clock to pressure the Twin player but if I tap out, in comes Deceiver EoT and I lose." Not to mention imagine cards like 3feri/FoN, or Veil for Tarmotwin.
Splinter Twin just isn't fast enough to dominate Modern nowadays. It will certainly see some play but it doesn't hold up to the MH2 tribal decks which make up like 80% of the metagame.
If it weren't for the personalities playing, this would have been three of the worst games I've ever seen. It's not a magic game; it's two players playing two different games racing to see who gets there first. Thank god WotC isn't stupid enough to print cards like The Rack again, but they keep trying to help Mill become a thing.
Bonus points if it's an eccentric personality, who does long video essays about over analyzing details in games. Is Brian David Gilbert available? Sidenote: Absolutely love your videos!
@@gearkiller07 o I thought they were talking about how to do muti triggers in a single turn. Or if you have a card that sends muti cards to the graveyard but I have a card that gives me those card sent to the graveyard if it is a permanent.
Spice8Rack is iconic in shuffle up and play, love to seem them in an episode. Also looking forward to April, based off the intro she already seems to be a physical manifestation of stress on the professor lol. Love shuffle up & play and the guest brought on
I know it is something weird to say in this channel, but I really appreciate seeing other formats than commander. There is already so much commander content everywhere that it is refreshing to see other stuff. I also absolutely love modern, it is my favourite format
The players, jokes/insults and pacing really did it for me here. As a returning player (unsure if this is the best time to return, lol) the card explanations and slower pace really helped me learn a lot compared to some other episodes. Thanks for the content as always :)
Dominaria United was a banger. I don't know much about later sets, but I bought a box of brothers' war. As in just bought it so I don't know how interesting it is
I want a 90 minunte video of the three of you getting daydrunk at a very fancy brunch and it's just back and forth zingers and cussing with heavy breakfast food and stiff drinks. You guys are a joy to watch. Thank you for the games.
Note on cards swapped out: "Bloodchief Ascension, yes it can hit those crabs but I really don't think i need that much creature removal" Bloodchief Ascension wouldn't be in the deck in relation to creature removal. It is a card hitting the graveyard from anywhere, not just creatures dying on the field. Meaning that discard will also trigger it and hurt alot. Not saying removal was automatically a bad idea. Just think Spice might have missread the trigger.
Can I just say, I am 45 years old and just getting into Magic the Gathering, this host and the videos he makes are so extremely helpful and entertaining. Brilliant content and keep it coming!
Love the episode! I play both 8Rack and Mill in Modern and was so happy to see this episode. Unfortunately the Prof probably should have lost game 2, both of you forgot to discard a card for Small Pox which would have allowed the double Raven's Crime next turn to force you to discard Tasha's Hideous Laughter but it allowed a third game so it was all good! :D
I think that April simply doesn't understand how good Leyline of the Void is, ESPECIALLY against discard. There are two possibilities: either it's in your opening hand, and so you get to start the game with it in play (this has never happened); or you draw it later in the game, and you have an easy choice to discard later since it's just a dead card. Super OP when you think about it.
So it takes away a card in your starting hand - exactly what you want to do when playing vs 8rack, right? It also hoses basically 1 card in the opponents deck, while also shutting down some of your cards that care about the number of cards in opponents graveyard. Sideboarding it in vs 8rack is almoast getting a handicap.
By that logic, the best strat against discard is to only have unplayable cards in your deck so you never discard anything important. I think you just solved Magic.
Y'know, I'm not a fan of modern because I don't really play it, but watching you folks play it is still super entertaining! Thanks Prof. (Plus Spice and April are hilarious)
The only way the professor wins Is by “forgetting” to discard a card too smallpox and consequently not have it to discard Tasha’s hideous laughter in a later turn. 36:07
