Arin and the Professor have excellent banter.
So true! They vibe so well together, its perfect! We need to see more of Professor Jonah Tolarix & his best colleague Arin, Prodigal Proctor just reverberating harmoniously like this! This is what made me love MTG in the first place! I really want to make content focusing on CCG, TCG & CMG online mobile game clients (i.e. Magic the Gathering Arena, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duelist, & and Pokémon Unite/GO/TCG Live [even though the Pokémon Live client is horrible ATM, I'm giving them the benefit of trying to clean up the bugs until 1/31/2024. If they don't improve it by then, I will recommend people don't ruin their mobiles using it...]), & it's thx to channels like this, The Command Zone, Merryweather, & Frosted Caribou that makes doing it feasible.
Bc unpacking videos are not working, in fact, they don't get more than a second or two of viewing before the viewer retention dies. So that's a wash.
I love the Prof but disagree. Arin is exhausting and the constant trolling takes away from thre experience.

Arin is a *very* green player and makes no qualms about his lack of ability to play MtG. Prof and the like have been playing the game ( at least on and off) since they were in school, giving them a vast knowledge of MtG that would only come from years of perspective and experience. They (moreso the Prof) straddle the line of bullying so closely that I completely understand Arin's behavior. I have watched nearly all the gameplay videos of Prof and he has always surprised me with how borderline toxic he is to those he plays with.
If you are a big fan of the Prof I doubt you will agree with any of my points.
@@hairyhulkvideos as a random third party, while I cannot say anything about comparative skill levels as much as I do see where you are coming from on the "straddling bullying" of the prof's banter, I do believe that while it is well on the more toxic side it's not quite as bad as you stated considering that it *generally* does go both ways (Edit: although I must add that the only magic I watch him play is on this show so it's likely just the overall vibe that he sets for it)
Edit 2: I must Also add that Arin isn't really bantering back so in the case of this video specifically I will say that in my perception you appear more accurate with your comment as a whole than the other videos I've seen

For new merfolk players it's valid to tap opponents Lands with Reejery triggers before combat so you force them to interact before combat.

This is funny to me on so many levels, absolutely love the episode. Though as a human who has competed in a lot of poetry and sport tournaments with a loser bracket. I understand where prof was coming from about the last game, though it's cute because magic players aren't sporty and have never heard of a losers bracket. (I would like to add, the comment is meant as I think it's actually cute, not sarcasm.)

its easier to think about it as tournament standings, they are all 1-1 but yes because the prof defeated the person who beat a 1-0 opponent prof should have at least a higher standing than Arin.
but from a fun casual game show perspective, it doesn't matter.

New to magic, why do the elemental tokens leave the battlefield after prof sent back the master of waves to Georg’s hand?
The algorithm failed me... for an entire month I have not known that Arin came back for another round of punishment.
Also: there are exactly 0 Vodalian Hexcatchers or Emperor Mihail II in these lists... The value lost...

It''s nice that Prof uses his reality bending powers to highlight things when they don't have the editing budget.
It really shows the responsibility he has to not abuse such gifts. It takes a person of great character to not misuse such things for mundane trivial things like, I dunno, making sure merfolk never lose.

Ya prof is kind of right its like a double bracket system. So the under dog still has a chance to beat the final combatant. It's like a martial arts tournament, at least in the video games i played.

If Georg had had a Dismember in hand, he could've blown out the double block on his attacking Master of the Pearl Trident. (That would've been his 'combat trick.') So many missed triggers gone back for... You're all 1-1, so it's a three-way draw.

I always love when Arin is on this show, he's such an animated person, and his breadth of knowledge of Magic is comforting.

When the first Shuffle Up & Play was out i left a comment said that the Prof should change the name to "Still better than Merfolk" and just let people bring crapier and crapier decks until they could find some that could lose to Merfolk. They never did, becuase only Merlfolk could lose to Merfolk. Well played, prof.
Incredible entertainment. Georg saved that nugget right at the end: The Prof's deck was 1-2!!! Even if the Prof was 1-1, his deck lost twice ;)

I dont see why people are confused. It's literally just a losers bracket that gets to get back in the finals.

Only difference is that there's not alot of players
2:50 our playgroup sometimes rolls for middle
There was some discussion if you win if you are the closest to 11 (rolling a d20)
Or if you got the result which is in the middle when it comes to the result of all players (which is stupid imo)
