It actually works just fine with USB game controllers. Wireless Xbox controllers for the last couple generations do some weirdness and don't just work like a normal USB controller. They use a proprietary protocol to connect to the host device and pair. That's why when you connect one with a physical USB cable to an Xbox it just continues to work when you unplug it... But if you use an old-school hardwired USB Xbox controller it will work just fine.
🐬 I’ve been using USB-C to 2.5 Gbe ethernet with PD adapter and it’s been life changing on my network installs and trouble calls! I no longer have to carry around an iPad Pro or another expensive piece of equipment to test these high speed connections.
Have you tested the iPhone as the accessory itself? How fast are the USBC speeds when connected to your Mac let’s say when backing up or syncing content?
A doc that charges the iPhone, cool it, give you a bunch of usb, sd card reader, hdmi out, headphone jack, perhaps a speaker system included. And now you have a console, workstation at your disposal. Or simply a case with mini sc card reader, usb c, mini hdmi out and you are good to go.
I have a feeling we will get a Samsung like desktop mode in the near future. Unless they add folding screens to the iPhone 📱 I don’t see what else they can add on the hardware side. It must be changes in the software side.
@@MJDross the only barrier to that that I can see is the damage it might do to MacBook sales, I bet there’s a lot of people out there that could happily work on a docked iPhone as it’s plenty powerful enough for browser based apps. Why would you buy a $900 phone and a $1500 minimum MacBook when you could buy a $1000 phone that does both and still fits in your pocket.
at 5:03 I noticed you mentioned having USB-C allows us, the consumers, to plug in a keyboard. For those still on lightning, you can still plug in keyboards to your iPhone including a mouse and maybe a monitor? Peripherals for sure but the one thing you will need is Apple's camera adapter that lets you plug in USB devices. Its a $60 adapter and IMO its really expensive for what it is but its worth it. When I still had my iPhone X, I was able to plug in an audio interface and record 3 instruments and a microphone simultaneously and this was just less than a year ago today (October 2023). Its not an exclusive feature to the 15 series. You can still do it with older devices you just need to have the USB adapter from Apple. Having USB C just makes the experience a lot simpler and cheaper since you no longer have to buy adapters directly from Apple. and of course transfer speeds are going to be significantly slower BUT i was still able to record several inputs from several sources.
It does work on the base model and he should have gone over that so I thought his review sucked because he didn't give in-depth answers on what works on what phone and what doesn't on the 15 plus is just slower
What I have yet to see is some plugging HDMI mouse and keyboard and then using it. That would be what I want to see and could you use it as you would the iPad?
Connect iPhone 15 Pro Max to a Mac and try to transfer a file to an app via the Finder. Even with a 10GBps link, speed is still 480MBps. :(. Was going to try to use the iPhone for external storage for a Mac.
USB-C Kishi V1 doesn’t work with the iPhone 15. Kishi V2 works but the software doesn’t work with the iPhone. The backbone works and the software works.
I have my monitor plugged in (Dell 60w passthrough monitor that acts as a hub) and I am able to hear audio from the phone just fine. YMMV maybe based on the monitor?
Does anyone know why connecting an HDMI adapter makes iPhone not fully fill the top/sides of the monitor? I know it doesn’t adjust to fill the screen except with certain apps, but why does it fill the screen over USB-C but not HDMI?
Hi thanks for sharing this video, it is helpful. I recently bought iPhone 15 Pro that has USB-C connector. I wanted to connect Zoom PodTrak P4 via usb-c cable to iPhone 15 Pro usb-c and use the Zoom P4 to talk and listen to phone calls with headphones and xlr mic connected to Zoom P4. Do you know if this is possible?
Can dockcase connect a microphone for recording to a solid-state drive? I want to use dockcase's USB-C to connect a lavalier microphone and record both video and audio together, but I'm not sure if it's feasible.
Well I’ve got to say live your videos brother. I bought that extension arm for iPad because of you. Thank you. This channel has got way better since you have basically taken over love it man. Thank you. Btw love the Petronas Lego awesome
I don’t understand can i use WD My Passport - 2TB / USB 3.2 Gen 1 / Black / External Hard Drive with new iPhone and the same time using sd card transfer at the same time?
It's safe to say that the iPhone now has all the hardware needed to be a full on computer. However, like on the iPad, it is being held back by software limitations. Of course, that is to be expected considering that Apple doesn't want to cannibalize their Mac sales and they fear that a desktop mode for iOS would do that. But I don't think that is a fear that is justified considering that Macs would still have a suite of advantages over the iPhone as a desktop computer.
Will the video-app support 32 bit audio recording if i connect a zoom uac 232, F3 or similar and can i record log on a ssd and still use external audio via a hub
Thanks for the interesting video! Is there a possibility to charge the iPhone by cable while using usb-c for e.g. connection to a display? Can you charge using a dongle?
Can I download any File type to the phone like I can with my Android then transfer it to a flash drive, and I mean any type of file not just specific files outlined by Apple?
I ordered a backbone and it shipped late. They expanded that it was delayed because of having to add a firmware update for the new iPhone before they shipped me mine backbone.
Xbox controller uses a proprietary protocol to connect and pair with host upon physical connection. If the handshake with that protocol fails, it just won't connect until you pair manually with BT.

If only they could have a next gen samsung dex-style interface for everything when plugged into a display. That would be the ultimate computer feature
I get your idea, but what do you mean by "next-gen"? Samsung had this since the S8. It's old, long established technology at this point.
That would mean less profits for Apple.
The greatest sin at Apple Inc. is to decrease profits by making something more useful to consumers.
At the very least, bring Stage Manager and add a few full screen resolutions like common 1080p and 1440p.
I wonder how Resident Evil Village performs on an external monitor with a controller. 🐬
I am also searching for it
Just curious to know whether it can mirror to dual 4k monitors 🐬
Does this dockcase supports 4k120 fps , 1440p120fps or even 1080p120 fps ?

You can use a DualSense plugged in. However, it tries to route all audio through the controller (same on a usb c ipad)
Another example of not having full control
Very sad that Apple is holding back the software on their side. It would be great to see some kind of desktop mode when plugging in the monitor.
