“The absolute emptiness of anything in or coming from the great and spacious building.” What a powerful statement.

The great and spacious building is US
Our belief that we alone hold the only Truth. And our mocking others for not having what we have.

Me too. I just wrote it down myself. Our test is DISCERNMENT! We live in the information age, but which ideas are true and which are false. We judge, and we will have to answer for our decisions.
I love this standard. I think it's instructive. Emptiness. What a word!

I’ve already listened to it like 5 times since he gave it less than 24 hours ago. SO good! Coincidentally, I had just bore my testimony about this song a couple of months ago! I shared how I was blasting “Let Us All Press On” in my car through town like people do with rap music while on the most epic spiritual high ever- coincidentally, right after last conference ended 🥰 Oh the synchronicities of the Gospel- always blowing my mind! 🤯❤️

I know this man is an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ. He and his wife Susan spoke in our stake. When he entered the chapel there was a profound silence and all knew the holiness of his calling. We were in the presence of a man that had witnessed the most sacred of man's experiences.

Hearken unto the word of God. Hold fast to the word of God. Hold fast. One of the names of Jesus Christ is the word. Hold fast by living for the gospel. If we abide in Christ he will abide In us and heed not the lies and untruths of the Worls. The adversary, his angels and disciples. Hold fast.

Heed not the many distractions of our modern world.
Focus faith on the Lord Jesus Christ
It is action and power as we act under the laws of heaven
We have no need to fear if we obey promptings and hear him.
We trust in the savior as our go between us and heavenly parents
    Steadfastly coming unto
Christ we may bask in his warm and life giving light.
    Honor sacred covenants.
Jesus is much more than just a character in scripture stories
He is the one we want to emulate in thought and deed
Peace comes and spiritual strength comes as we fear not.
They that are with us are greater than they that are with them.
What helps us to heed not?
Valiant noble and great ones intentional invite the spirit and make their homes into temple homes and leave babylon behind.
Covenants provide strength to overcome opposition.
Jesus Christ is a PERSONAL SAVIOR!
    What is a compass?
    Tells us direction
    Covenants point is towards Christ
Cardinal direction is to come unto and be perfected in Christ.
Strive with his grace to become more like him!
Act Ian’s then providence moves to help you sanctify.
Hold fast to the word of God
Those that hold fast May do so.
Hold fast to vs cling to
John the beloved describes Christ as the Word
The word was made flesh and He dwelt among us.
    His teachings are the word
    Hold fast to the word.
The saints will prosper the word of truth.
Fight for the right with the sword of truth.

Using a pattern of Elder Bednar's suggestion of studying conference talks we are to seek to 1- Identify the fundamental doctrine taught; 2- find invitations or principles associated with the doctrine 3- Look for the promised blessing that is bound to obedience to this doctrine. This practice has brought peace, joy, and understanding into my life. It requires digging deeper to receive the promised blessings of personal revelation.
I would be interested in hearing what doctrine others heard Elder Bednar teach in this conference address?
I will share some of mine; 1-the Importance of making and faithfully keeping Covenants with the Lord and keeping them close to our hearts. 2- Not giving heed to the mocking and scorn of the voices in our head, either from others or our own thoughts, but faithfully holding fast to the rod (word of God). Jesus is the promised Messiah; we are yoked with/to him through honoring the covenants we make even if we have fallen away; He is there with open arms.

I’m so thankful he chose to read John 1! Such an amazing verse that enlightens us to the true nature and identity of Jesus and why he is worthy of our lives and all our worship. The word (Jesus) is God. That is why Jesus is worshipped and accepts worship in the New Testament (the magi, the disciples after Jesus walked on water, the women after Jesus’ resurrection, and when Thomas says to Jesus “my lord and my God”.) Jesus is not a created being but created all things….this is even emphasized again by saying “without him was not anything mad that was made”. The Bible is clear that only God is to be worshipped. The Pharisees despised Jesus and sought to kill him for making this claim….for he made “himself equal to God”.

I often hear the words echoed in my mind: “heed not” when someone viciously attacks the Church of Jesus Christ on social media. It’s a joy to peacefully defend the faith, but on social media is seems best to mostly heed not. Contention and anger is something I am trying to always avoid with the help of our “covenant connection” to God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

I rely on the scriptures, the family proclamation, articles of faith and so forth to respond by asking questions to lead the scoffer to their own conclusion that they have no foundation to judge or to scoff, the same as the building had no foundation in Lehi's dream that housed the scouffers.

I find when I am really struggling a priesthood blessing helps me feel God's love and he lets me know that there is hope and I can press on. My husband doesn't have the priesthood so I ask a ministering brother, friend, or family member. They have always been happy and willing to give me one. God bless you to get the help you need and don't be shy to ask a worthy priesthood holder for a blessing.

If you are sincerely seeking to follow Christ then anything that mocks your efforts is from the world member of the church or not. What really matters here is how you let it affect you. On the flip side I have known many who were not members who have lifted me in my efforts to hold to the rod. There are good people everywhere!

I tried bringing a discussion back to Christ in Elders Quorum a few months ago. The worldly view of gender and sexual morality has crept into the body of the church so thick that it scares me. I quoted the The Family Proclamation and things of that nature and the push-back and the glares I got were almost dehumanizing. Secularism and moral Relativism has ensnared our brethren, our wives, our children so powerfully that I fear that there is no hope. Our ward is younger, we have tons of kids, very few over the age of 60, and NOT ONE PERSON stepped in to defend Christ. We had a recently released bishop (he was a great bishop may I add) in the room, a stake representative, and another high counsel member. THEY ALL SAID NOTHING! 😢 We must hold, grasp, cling to the rod (Christ) or there won’t be sufficient truth left to carry us through the spiritual Armageddon we are experiencing and that will only get worse.

@General Conference, could you direct this comment to Elder Bednar's attention? Thanks.
Elder Bednar, you defined "holding fast" but how do you define "clinging?"
Since you take special care to note there is a difference, I genuinely want to know your thoughts. I really appreciated you talk.

    • @sisterstarseed
      @sisterstarseed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I’m not Elder Bednar- I hope you don’t mind me sharing my perception. I was struck deeply by this comment & absolutely love it, so I thought I’d share what came to mind.
On this earth, we are playing an active role in the restoration- I visualized a character that became a superhero by utilizing the tools given to complete the mission… holding fast & utilizing the sword of Truth which is fastened to the iron rod- needed so we can be an active character in the game of good vs evil. When I visualized the character whom was clinging… they were clinging to the iron rod as they knew it was their best protection… but weren’t sure how to use it as a sword… or how to utilize it’s special features as it pertains to the game. Parts of the rod were being held onto tightly for safety but they didn’t know the tool well enough to become one with it & utilize it to help them develop to their potential as Samurai’s for Christ. They knew they were safer clinging to it but didn’t have the desire in their heart to become a samurai.
Are we working to be a samurai with our sword of truth made by the iron rod, or do we just reach for it when we’re scared? Are we actively engaged in using the iron rod to navigate the game? Or just clinging it?
Not sure if that makes sense- it’s just what came to mind. I don’t by any means mean we’re supposed to use it for violence or for contention- quite the opposite. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share! ❤️

You shouldn't judge the whole church based on a few members from your congregation. The people will never be perfect. But, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is. In other words, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I have been to quite a few different wards and branches and have been a member on both coasts. I’m a convert and what I remember is this:
I’m not there for others, but for my own personal relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ first and foremost. There will always be those in and out of the church who will not always agree with everything we do or we with them, but through Jesus Christ and our relationship with Him, we can and will be healed and blessed
