Its hard for me to believe that anything would cause David A. Bednar to fear. He knows what he is talking about.

Deliverance only He could bestow. He said, “Learn of me, listen to my words.” Sweet peace of conscience is what He brings.

Fear is such a huge part of life. Amazing that Adam and Eve's first interaction with another after their mortal fall included fear. They hid themselves from God. Fear is part of the plan and causes us to rely on Him to save us and calm our hearts. What a wonderful talk. Like Peter, if we keep our eye on the Savior, we can walk across troubled waters.

Fear can be love and respect and reverence, and awe. Godly fear gives me comfort, for it makes me feel safe. It is actually not exactly fear to me….it is holding fast to His love, and having reverence and respect for Him. He does not expect the impossible. He knows we are human. He also has those same human tendencies, having been born of a mortal mother, Mary….but being God, he lived a perfect life….isn’t that amazing??!!!

"Ordinances and covenants are the building blocks we use to build our lives on the foundation of Christ. " The insight found in that line clarifies the doctrine of "being saved after all we can do." What a great talk!

Diverting my eyes from an objective in front of me can shake my focus and cause me to stumble and perform poorly. So it is in spiritual things, "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not." Elder David A. Bednar's counsel correlates perfectly with that of President James E. Faust:
"Let us not take counsel from our fears. May we remember always to be of good cheer, put our faith in God, and live worthy for Him to direct us. We are each entitled to receive personal inspiration to guide us through our mortal probation. May we so live that our hearts are open at all times to the whisperings and comfort of the Spirit." (Oct. 2002)

I will soon go to Turkey and start live broadcasting, but I don't have much money to come to America at that time. When I do live broadcasting, people will see my status. Then you say, John, how did you live in these circumstances when you were in this situation?

I don't understand Godly fear and mortal fear. With the word fear in there, it feels incomprehensible.

Mark Bischoff I was thinking about it like this. Imagine only having to fear God. Imagine a world or universe where nothing else can bring you fear. And then imagine our Heavenly Father who is all goodness. If He was all there was to fear and we know Him to be all goodness we can then see how truly powerful He is and bask in the amazement of his glory. And that is kind of how Bednar described godly fear in his talk: amazement and wonder, which leads us to reverence in His holy name.
It’s crazy I came across this talk today because I was just reading this verse which mentioned fearing God in it yesterday in somewhat of a positive context and couldn’t make sense of it, but this talk was able to answer that question! Here is the verse:
      Doctrine and Covenants 76: 5
5 For thus saith the Lord-I, the Lord, am merciful and gracious unto those who fear me, and delight to honor those who serve me in righteousness and in truth unto the end.
Also, these next verses aren’t necessary to add on to the last verse but I do think they add even more perspective and understanding of the awe and amazement we will feel for God:
      D&C 76:8-10
“8Yea, even the wonders of eternity shall they know, and things to come will I show them, even the things of many generations.
9 And their wisdom shall be great, and their understanding reach to heaven; and before them the wisdom of the wise shall perish, and the understanding of the prudent shall come to naught.
10 For by my Spirit will I enlighten them, and by my power will I make known unto them the secrets of my will-yea, even those things which eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor yet entered into the heart of man.”
I hope that was helpful! It’s definitely hard to alter the meaning of an abstract word like that in our minds, but I feel like looking at it that way helped it to make some sense to me 😊

You talk and say, John, why doesn't he come? Do you know how I live? I am in Iraq. The worst conditions I live in here. If you knew how to live in Iraq, you would say to yourself, John, how did you live in a difficult situation? You know Instagram and you know it's my account, my name is John. Why don't you help me? I'm a disabled man. I don't have a hand and I don't have a leg. Let me tell you so you can understand how I live
