    Para usar esse tipo de encaixe (rabo de andorinha), em violao classico, necessariamente o topo do violao deve ser mais reto, ou o formato classico mais arredondado tb permite usar esse método?

    I built 2 guitars using the prototype of this jig, and the neck angles are spot on. I have also built a guitar without this jig and it is beautiful hanging on the wall because it's a pain to play.

    Hi Robbie, Thanks for everything you do on here. Huge help. In any of these videos do you explain the process of drilling the rest of the holes that make the barrel bolts line up properly? In what order you do them etc? Is it all laid out ahead of time or do you use one hole to mark out another?

      This video illustrates this toward the end. Happy building - Natalie

    Hello O´Brien, I saw, at the top of the neck, two holes. What they do for?

      Hi Jorge, Robbie uses these to attach his neck using barrel inserts as shown here: www.lmii.com/neck-installation-inserts/2363-bolt-on-neck-insert-barrel-nutbolt-set-of-2.html

    Is there a simple way to set up the jig so the tenon fits the mortise closely? I realize some hand work is needed for fine tuning but how do I get as close as possible? Thanks.

      You could bush out the template guide just a bit when routing the tenon, but I'd be very careful if doing so. Better to fine-tune by hand a bit at a time to get a really good fit.

      @@luthiersmercantileinternat5786 Thanks very much but what I was asking is how to set the templates initially. I know some hand work is needed but once I set the mortise to correct size, how do I set the tenon template to match? Thanks.

      I know what you mean Gary and I find you can't. I find myself just cutting the female part thrn making the male too large and gradually reducing it carefully until it eventually fits.. I end up putting marks on the temples to indicted roughly were its going to be for each model I do.
      The jig is still good though in that it works well. The quality isn't too good. It should have been mate out of ally or at the very least birch Ply and not mdf. I wish I hadn't glued mine together now and used the components juat for sizing and had them made up in ally. But I think it would have been great if they could have done it with like a mechanical wheel that opened and closed both templates on each side at the same time equally. So you knew they would match up precisely.

      @@adamgledhill4752 Yep, that's exactly what I ended up doing. Fortunately, I only make one model so I could mark the templates for repeatability. Still, I cut the tenon oversize and creep up on it. That seems to work. Thanks for the comment. Glad I'm not the only one, lol.

      @@willardvegavoyager4581 yeah I mark the templates like you say I just have more marks than you. But even then I still get it close and reduced it rather than go steaming in straight to my mark. I prefer the air on the side of caution.

    Just making sure--both the M/T and the dovetail templates work on this setup, correct?

    • @luthiersmercantileinternat5786
      @luthiersmercantileinternat5786  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The straight and dovetail mortise and tenon both can be done on this jig. You need two different template sets though.
