My uncle bought this exact ski brand new when I was a kid! There is just something to the smell of 2 stroke oil in the air with that lake smell early in the morning. Looking forward to seeing it all finished!
Step 1: Restore it. Step 2: Learn to ride it. Step 3: Learn to appreciate how much easier everything else on the planet is to ride. I love it, JD. This will be an awesome project.
Thanks Kevin for the comment! incredibly, every single part, gasket, and seal for this is still available- many directly from Kawasaki! This one is a major basket case, but it’s got good bones atleast!
Woooo! He’s got one!!!!!!! 🔥 Happy for you JD. Definitely going to look at rebuilding the outdrive on the Sunbird BTW. Either that or swapping to a Volvo Penta
No can do. Holding onto the 800s like gold! If I see something I will let you know. Sold my SXI Pro a few years ago. I put front tubbies and hull extensions on like the factory racers used. Made a huge difference but the 800 was sooo much better to ride I just let the SXI pro go.
"Wow, that's a complete piece of crap...throw it in the dumpster! Do yourself a favor!" You had me dying JD!!🤣😂🤣 No way man, that is history for sure! I look forward to seeing the project as you restore that awesome machine! Cheers!
Lots of parts available. Get you hooked on standups! My 90 TS had a thumb throttle. I might have have the KPI aluminum finger throttle I had on it. Swapped back to thumb when I sold it. You can have it if I still have it.
Hi Jd ! I dipped my new ski on the water on sunday for the first time and had a blast. Great machine ! 2023 ultra 310 lx-s. Only complain is that the jetski feels a bit tippy on low speeds.. but i know is the price we pay to have more stability on rough waters. The feel, ft and finish of the ski is amazing. Feels very strong and fast. I have a question for you ! Thanks to your videos there are a few mods that i would like to do. Im not to handy with tools and wanted to know if you provide services of instalation. Nothing inside the engine. All around and outside.. most ive seen you do it to your jetski. If yes please let me know how i can contact you. You have so much pasion for this machines that makes me feel very comfortable having you working on it. Thanks for all your videos.
That’s awesome thanks for the comment! Haha I do not do installs or work, I do this purely as a hobby for fun! But feel free to email me or ask questions and I’d be happy to help you should you come across any problems!
I wouldn’t mess with the Kawasaki engines. Swap it to a Yamaha 650 or 701. Probably find a running engine in a ski for 500 and get a conversion kit. Way more reliable than a piston port engine.
Hahah nah I have never had good results with anything but Kawasaki. I do agree the piston port engine is not as desirable as the reed engine, but this ski will be getting a proper restoration with mostly oem parts.

Where?? Looking online i cant find much for parts.@JDsWaterWorld
@@dylanstark7798go to Riva Racing's website and look at their OEM microfiche, go to any Kawasaki dealer parts counter in the US, or go on eBay!
Glad you finally found one, looking forward to seeing how it all comes together 👍
It’s going to be a long and painful process probably lol!
Great fine JD, love it. Definitely a piece of Kawasaki history.
If only Kawasaki would have agreed with my request for them to send me a SX-R 160 😢
Woooo! He’s got one!!!!!!! 🔥

This is amazing! I love the old JS JetSkis!
Thank you for restoring this machine. Js550's are THE BEST!!
Haha I haven't restored it yet..working on it though!
Can't wait to watch the process!
You will have to bring up your SeaDoo and we will have to do a 2-stroke / beer/ burgers day at my house this summer
@@JDsWaterWorld 100% down for that! We'll work it out!
SAWEEEET!!!!
Can't wait to see how she turns out!
Lots of work..but will be awesome once it’s done. Between you and me I’m also looking to buy a 750SX which I plan to acquire in running condition
If I ever make it back down to FL I will bring one of my 800 SXRs for you to try.
Awesome! Want to sell one? I’m going to get a 750 or 800 SX as well eventually

Great to see you in the classic jet ski game
Can’t have a Kawasaki Jet Ski channel without paying homage to the original!

Hahaha well I’m gonna get a 750SX as well to round off my collection!

Haha awesome! Yeah I feel like having a Kawasaki channel is not complete without a few stand ups
I have that throttle. Sent you an email.
That's going to be a fun project JD! Let me know if you want some help and I'll swing by.
Yeah we have to do a 2-stroke burgers and beer day at my house this summer with Aaron.
@@JDsWaterWorld Sounds like a plan!
Kawasaki doesn't actually still make parts for this do they?
Believe it or not, you can get almost every single part, gasket, seal, and bearing. Lots of aftermarket parts as well.
It's going to be fun

Hey, that skii is in good shape for its age. its nicer than some of the muchachos [ non english speakers ] near me in the 727. fort desoto area.
Hahah I figured with this one atleast it’s already stripped down so saves me some time..I want to take the time to do it right! Thanks for the comment
