Heck yea man...I got into Jetskis last year... WR3 then onto a WR1100 and then another WR1100 fully built...this year I picked up a JS550 in pieces bare fiberglass...got her painted and put back together with 135psi (5500ft elevation) in both cylinders which means she has some work done as well.
If hull doesnt have any cracks in it I would say that’s a fair price. I rebuilt the motor with new pistons and machining for ~$500 on mine after trading a 6 pack of beer for it complete (with a messed up piston).
Cool vid and ski, can't believe you got that for a six pack of Bell's! Oberon is a great summer beer, and for heavier stuff I dig their Porter. I'm from Mi as well, and the first thing I thought when starting this vid is it looks like it could be Michigan. First Ski I had was a new 88' 550 which was identical to yours. I put on the Mariner head which made a huge difference, as well as a K&N air filter to let it properly breathe. Then I swapped out the impeller. Try to find an air filter if you can, it makes a bigger difference than you might think.
My brother had that same model, I rode it when I was13-14. It was tough to learn on, but lots of fun. Was nice to hear that engine sound again- thanks.
Thanks for the comment!! It took me a good 3 seasons to figure it out at age 31, but now it gives me many hours of fun each summer. Has held up pretty nice after rebuild aside from some electrical things here and there
Probably your kill switch coil…Mine did this last year so I bypassed it, but now need to hold down the stopswitch to get it to stop vs just tap it… You can probably find a replacement on ebay
@@fudk_off1312 Mine was as well, I added the lanyard pull-off purely because I wanted it to shut down when I fell off. Only way to tell in your case is to remove the stop switch coil and see if it still does it
@@AdamPE21 i found the issue. there was a blockage on the rev limiter. so it wouldnt let gas completely threw. cleared it out and it screamed to life.... any chance youd know what fuel filter it takes?

I have a js 550 hull in amazing condition im trying to sell for 500 bucks if anyone is interested.

I picked up an 86, looks the same as this. only issue is it starts, runs for a second, then dies. not sure what to do

@@AdamPE21 I only have a stop button. no key. and i pulled the plugs and kranked it. no loss of spark until i let go of the button
