Stumbled across your videos because I’ve just bought another Peugeot 107. I found myself watching more and more videos not for how to fix things but for the comedy
Did this on my 07 plate C1 about five years ago, but was shocked on stripping it down to see how worn the brushes were, so bought a new brush set and fitted them at the same time. These are cracking little cars, had mine from brand new (C1 vibe 2007), still have it and it has done 63,000 miles from new, I have done everything on it myself (mechanic by trade), and apart from the usual yearly servicing parts, all I have had to do extra has been two rear exhausts, n/s/r wheel bearing, water pump, clutch kit, tyres, brake pads and discs, wiper blades, usual water leak fixes into the car, and only last week a new battery. Could not believe that the original fulmen battery from new had lasted this many years (15yrs), So replaced it with a hella premium 063 battery like you have an 063. Same time as fitting the battery last week, I also took my starter off to give another check and clean. Plenty of life still in the brushes I changed about 5 yrs ago, but cleaned the commutator up like you did. Love your videos, keep them coming, yes!!! Notice my knob is a bit sloppy now, so going to do your trick in a few days of the self tapping screws idea, much cheaper than buying a complete new gear change mechanism. Just a tip that I found easier during the two times I have removed my starter, rather than trying to unclip the wiring loom like you did, I just also removed the bolt that holds the metal bracket to the actual starter that the wiring loom clips into (10mm I think it was), so no need to try and unclip it, but looking how rusty yours looked, I think if you tried that, then maybe your bolt may have sheared off.
I was gonna get brushes myself but thought I’d just wing it haha, and so far so good. Before it would not engage a lot of the time and then be lazy turning it over. I only really fixed it cos I’ve got a planned video where I need it to be working well enough to pull the car which it wouldn’t do at all before, hoping it will now 🤞. The gearstick bodge is one of the best things I’ve done to it tbh, but make sure you use fat enough screws or it won’t work lol
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Yeah cheers, if I can't find any thick enough, because after all, ask any woman about knobs, and they will all say that it is about the girth, not length that counts, I will pop into Screwfix and get some thick ones🤣it is like working blind by feel doing those c1 starters, reminds me of the joke about that retired gynaecologist who wall papered his hallway through his letterbox😂😂😂
So glad your channel exists.......you always explain things in a very technical informative automotively manner.........i need this today as am putting a new one on my shitter! Well done Sir 🎩
I will definitely be buying a new one if I need to do this job after seeing that! You should get some merch going with 'yes' printed all over it. Shirts, mugs etc
This is INSANE. I got an IDENTICAL issue with my nippy lil 107, and I thought NAH, I ain't buyin' one - I'll FIX iIT!! I assume it's just not engaging properly before spinning, soo I'm hoping I can loosen it up a bit with some WD-40 and grease. Let's see how yours goes first... [Edit 1] @10:54 That was my EXACT method of getting it working again for a bit. Giving it a well-placed whack. I have a crowbar-looking-thing (amazingly similar to yours) and hammer under my seat for it, lol. [Edit 2] That went just how I hoped it would. Thanks for the help with the shitter!
No problem at all. It lasted a good while after I did this but ultimately did need changing. I got one cheap off Ash Carter in the Facebook bug groups. I made another video showing it done from underneath, but I’ve not uploaded it yet 🤷
Thanks for the vid Tim. My Aygo starter was exactly the same (Occasionally wouldn't engage with the flywheel). I did the same process you've shown here, reach-arounds included and it starts first time YES!
Que bueno !! This is the reality of us guys who fix, "tinker" with their own cars. Show it as it is!! I recently changed the starter motor on my 1995, Fiat Barchetta, and as you said it only cost me €45, but i ran into some of those problems trying to get access, and taking off/ on nuts blind !! I am although a bit bemused with u wearing the rubber gloves 🤪
Quality stuff. My shitter’s starter fucks up only when the engine is hot for some weird reason, most likely because these performance engines have such fine tolerances! 😂
All I’ve done with this is strip it and clean it, but what a difference even though I’ve not even replaced the brushes or out. It’s not missed once since this vid and turns the engine over much faster.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Lol Hey like yourself I’m tight I don’t like spending money . But after watching this upload i think i will just buy a starter if mine goes 😂
Not sure tbh, I just reused my old ones and stretched the springs so they were being pushed against the commutator harder. It was working perfectly until I made a video about driving with no clutch, and fucked it up again starting the car in gear a few times 😂
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos mine is a 2011, and in very nice condition, by myself, not one bolt is rusty, i have my car c1 tree years and is in new condition, 134000 km on his teller
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos wel i gonna say, my car was also poor treated, but ones it was in my possesion, i treaded very well, to day i am busy to tread my car and make a film of it and shal put it in my youtube canal and shall give you the link, so you can see what i do, but my english is not proper, i normaly speak dutch, i am from belgium, so excuse mr for my language, if you look
On other circumstances this video would have been invaluable to me! My starter has been playing up for ages, just spinning when I turn the key, as if the bendix pinion (?) isn't returning as it should. As things turned out it's no longer an issue!! 🤬😡🤬😡

Also, many thanks for the quality humour and content as always!
