  • The Front Brakes Were Starting To Grind, Time for some new pads and discs.
I had left the brakes for as long as possible, to show how bad they can be but still work.
The brake disc minimum thickness is 19mm how will this one compare?

Another great video Anton! Thank you so much! Brake discs and pads all changed now ☺️ A tip for others doing this - the brake discs had rusted solidly onto the hubs and wouldn’t come off. On the disc are two M8 threaded holes. Screwing a bolt into both these holes will push the disc off the hub and avoid much swearing!

Hi I think the video is great BUT!! The wheels were not chocked up neither did you use an axle stand the other issue is the brake dust you should use a face mask as I said the videos are very well made but these are serious safety points and considering this is for amateurs this should be addressed.

Wow, these pads and disc - looks like (at least the inner) ones gave already some fancy lighting in the dark when pushing the pedal? Another great video. Just for my DIY fellows: more water-resistant and heat-stable ceramic paste (5-10€) for lubrication might be a good alternative, to measure plan run (gauge for ~25€) of the disc and might be a bit easier to clean the holder off the car.

Thanks Gerhard, these have been on the car for ever, they have been advised on the mot the last two years, but I wanted to get them right down for the video, I might have to make another video on removing brake fallout from the paintwork, 😂Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

For pretty much any car that runs abutment clips as part of the brake system, it’s always worth buying new ones when you get new pads.
They cost peanuts (if they’re not already included) and make the job and brakes much smoother.
A square file works best for cleaning the caliper carrier.
Grease behind the clips before install to stop corrosion binding the pads up again.

Is there any reason the discs seem to wear faster then the pads on my Aygo? I'm not a heavy braker, and barely use them so that could be a factor (I'm an economy focused driver, I average 71mpg). I was going to treat myself to some Brembo pads and discs in the hope they might last longer then the cheaper Eicher pads and discs

    • @aaanton11
      @aaanton11  2 ปีที่แล้ว

you would normally get 3 sets of pads to one set of discs, your pads might be a super hard compound, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

@@aaanton11 I guess I can't really complain as I've got 87,000 miles on the clock and on my second set of discs and pads (which now need replacing). Like I say though, they don't get a massive amount of use. I'm going to do my discs/pads, roll bar drop links and auxiliary belt all at the same time since they're all roughly in the same area.
I've also come to the conclusion that budget parts aren't worth the hassle since they don't last as long, my starline drop links are 1 year old and need replacing, the rubber quality looked crap when they first came out the box so I guess I got what I paid for xD, also armed with a torque wrench this time so Its not guesswork getting the fitting done correctly.

Well, I wouldn't follow this guys advice on brakes. Hanging brake calipers by the flexible hose, not cleaning off brake discs before putting it on a car and telling people if you forget to clean it, just have to be careful about braking for the first X amount of miles. These are words from someone who just bodges it without knowing the proper methods and putting people lives at risk.
    My advice is:
If you don't know how to do it properly, just take it to a Professional!

    • @gerhardgugelhupf2272
