It is true, many a times we misinterpret scriptures, it would do us well to heed Paul's admonition to Timothy, "....study to show yourself approved of God, a work man who doesn't need to be ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth"

The main point is about standing in Christ's victory, which is true.
But I think the preacher errs to imply the sword in the armour of God is primarily for self defence.
The sword in Ephesians 6:17 is a translation of the Greek "makaira". This short sword is generally used for attacks. See elsewhere where the same word is used e.g. Acts 12:2, Rom 8:35, Luke 21:24, Rev 13:10, Heb 11:37 etc
The way makhaira is used in the New Testament shows that this is a deadly attack weapon, not merely to ward off attackers in self defence.
In Paul's day, both short and long swords were strategic attack weapons, just as today we have both rifles and pistols today.

What about binding the strongman and spoiling his goods in Matt. 12:29
"Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house."
What about Paul Timothy to fight in
1 Timothy 1:18-19? Is fighting not attacking anymore?
"This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight, keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith."
Is absence of peace not war in
    Matthew 10:34-39
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father,?
and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
What about Paul fighting with the beasts of Ephesus? Did Jesus not win the victory before he fought these beasts? Did Paul just stand in the place of victory, how come he engaged the beasts of Ephesus in a fight.?
The weapons of our warfare are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds...
This is not just about the tricks of Satan,
but a war situation which is more than standing with a short knife.
Please senior don't put young Christians to sleep because Christ won the battle.
Attacking the devil and his demons is not a sin against Christ and won't take anybody to hell so leave the innocent alone.

I hear you so well, very good reference too. I will be checking some scripture and reference.
My understanding is we are beyond the battle ground.
ie “ more than a conqueror”
Things such as fasting, prayer shouldn’t be because we are in want, but for fellowship, for growth, seeking God and understanding His purposes.
Instead with Christians there’s so much desperation to get this and that out of prayer or out of fasting. Circumstances should find us gone beyond that, having already fasted, or praying a lifestyle not desperations we live.
Check the how Christians suffer and struggle for things the world so easily gets, we have to ask ourselves why???
When you get married, they will say pray, Christian’s get to marriage scared cos they are told prayyyyyy, it’s like it’s a disadvantage to be a Christians, high maintenance, hmmm 🤔 It’s either the Jesus we preach is real or not, this life of Christ how are we going to sell to the lost when we are seemingly struggling to possess what is “ freely given to us” 🤷🏽‍♀️
Just my thoughts. Let’s continue to learn and understand, some things we were taught wrong and as we search scriptures ourselves it’s so difficult to unlearn the wrong stuff.
May seek truth and be bold enough to change the long standing wrongs are challenged.
For everything we face we need to hear what Holy Sprit says for that circumstance eg to said “persue and recover”, to Moses “ the battle is mine”, to Jehoshaphat “ the battle is mine” to Joshua “ praise”.
He still speaks the same way in the New Testament. Paul and Silas, sang praises crumbled the prison walls, Peter, saints prayed and the angel rescued him.

Remember that where you are quoting to bind the strong man is before the cross. Everything about God and the Bible is a revelation. Right from 1987 that I got converted God gave me a revelation from 1 John 4:4 Greater is he that is me than he that is in the world. Others may fasting and saying they are fighting the devil mine is greater is he that is in me. So if you don't have that revelation you can go on doing your fighting.

      1. What about binding the strongman and spoiling his goods in Matt. 12:29
"Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house."
Answer: Jesus already bound the strong man and plundered him according to Col 2. That is why the believer is able to do deliverance.
'He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. '
      Colossians 2:15
Answer: How do we fight the good fight? The rest of the verse explains: “…keeping faith and a good conscience…”. Those who have not fought the good fight have shipwrecked their faith because they have rejected the faith.
      3. Is absence of peace not war in
      Matthew 10:34-39
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father,? and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
Answer: These verses have nothing to do with attacking the devil. This is about division brought about by believing in Jesus vs those who do not.
      4. What about Paul fighting with the beasts of Ephesus? Did Jesus not win the victory before he fought these beasts? Did Paul just stand in the place of victory, how come he engaged the beasts of Ephesus in a fight.?
Answer: This is a reference to the hostile crowds in Ephesus according to Acts 19:21-34. Paul did not attack anyone but only preached the gospel. To the contrary, it was actually Paul and the believers who were attacked. After the riot, Paul encouraged the believers and left for Macedonia,
      5. The weapons of our warfare are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds...
Answer: What are these strong holds? The verse tells us:
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ….”
      - we are casting down arguments and bringing thoughts to captivity to the obedience of Christ. AKA the trickery of the devil

I think this is a generalisation. You have bundled all pastors under the same umbrella. There are many pastors just like Paul who own their own businesses and work tirelessly to even support their own ministry. One perfect example is pastor Mensa Otabil. He's a serial businessman. There are pastors who never manipulate people into giving them money. There are so many pastors who don't decide how the church offerings and Tithe is spent and are themselves on salary.
I can appreciate the fact that you may have been a victim to some pastors who have manipulated you, or may have heard stories. But please learn to acknowledge that there is the false and there is the true pastor. Thanks for understanding

The second issue is that people are ok when others pay Huge sums of money ($100 and above) to attend the concert of secular musicians home and abroad.
But where they draw the line is Christian's giving money in church to move the ministry forward, and for church staff to be paid. As long as a person is not forced, I don't see why It should matter to others what they use their money for.

    • @salomewamanye1425

My dear Esther the truth is it’s not always true that pastors make money from church offerings and tithes
In our current world the tithes and offerings is nothing to write home about
Most of the congregations not give much
Most of the rich pastors you see have their own business
      Am talking from experience
My dad was working when he became a pastor we were very comfortable as a family. He rather use his money to support the church fast forward he had to stop working . We began seeing pepper
