Honestly I’m shocked how many views my video has and how many people have this problem. Glad I was able to help everyone. I’ve never tried it on a Chevy but I’m sure the engineers make it way more difficult then it needs to be as well.
@@justthetipgarage5305 it's not aweful, and the newer ones don't even use hogrings they've switched to a re-usable system. Just glad it'll be doable on mine ('12) when the time comes.
I just changed my 2010 heating element for the 4th time. Had to watch this to remember how to get the cover off. Great video. I remove the seat just to make it easier.
This is a great video. Only comment, don't both trying to unclip the passenger side of the driver seat. I was able to just undo the front and left side of the seat cover and could access the entire heating element. The passenger side clip was difficult to access. I also only took out the front three hog rings, zip ties worked like a charm to tie the seat back down. I used an oscillating tool to cut the hog rings since I did not have bolt cutters. this is the 2nd time the heating element has gone out, first time Ford wanted $400 to repair...total rip off.
@@justthetipgarage5305 yeah. I've thinking. Those wires around the white bar are hooks though. I just found out after I zip tied mine. They can be unhooked from around the white bar. Minor but someone might care. Thanks again for the instructions.

Having the same issue on my expedition. The passenger seat works but the driver's seat comes on then turns off within 10 seconds. I was thinking it might be the wiring harness found under the passenger's seat but if that wiring was bad, both seats would not work. If one seat is working that means the element on the driver's seat is bad. Did I get this right?
I have a 2014 f150 crew cab, FX4 with touch screen buttons only for heated and cooled seats, no hard buttons. My heated seats work sometimes. One day I’ll start the truck, hit the button on the touch screen and it works fine. Another day I’ll start the truck, hit the button on the screen for heated seat and it shows on the screen the heated seat is on but the fan or blower under the seat just blows air through the seat at what sounds like high setting on the fan but seat never heats up. And it’s about 50/50 of the time it works. There’s times I’ll start the truck and heated seats don’t work, I shut the truck off let the lights and touch screen go off and then restart it and now the heated seat works. I don’t get it.
@@RobertMOdell started with the bottom because it’s easier to remove. As soon as you fold it back it’s always In the same spot. Gets pinched under the metal. If that wasn’t it I’d replace the top.
Would this repair still work if my heated seat light doesn't turn off? I'll push it to turn on the heated seat and it'll stay lit up but the seat never heats up.
It may but I’m honestly not sure. Make sure it’s connected under the seat, check the fuse, and if you’re going to throw a part at It this is what I would try.
What if you push the button to turn it on and the light indicator Stays on? Fuses are good... the seat Seams to want to heat up as in it gets just a faint warm but not enough to really notice.
That’s a different issue and I think you can find an answer on TH-cam as well. I believe it means the heating element is only partly working or the switch is bad. I can’t remember which one.
My heated seat lights stay on but the driver's seat gets way too hot only in one small spot. Seems to me that would indicate that the element is starting to burn out. Do you think that's what's happening?
Hey I have 2010 f150 lariat and I had the same problem with heated seat. I purchased that part and opened up the seat but there’s no heat element. It’s a fan from bottom which blows both hot and cold air. I had this problem for months but now it’s working but I didn’t change anything? I’m super confused 😂
Haha yes this fix is for a non air conditioned seat. Yours sounds like a bad wire / ground. Probably pinched under the seat and when you took it apart it made contact again. If you have the problem again I’d check that first.
My heated seat light stays on and doesn’t turn off like yours but it dose get hot.. Do you think it still might be the heating element or is there possibly a fuse someplace?
My driver's side seat draws maybe 71 degrees max, and the heater button stays lit, but I sure can't feel any heat. I have a seat cushion and seat back heating element. How can you tell which heating element needs replacing?
I’d turn them both on without you in the truck. Have all other heat off. Just the seat on maximum. Wait 15 minutes or so and then feel the seat and feel the back. Whatever ones colder probably needs replaced. Honestly it may be both, check connections under the seat as well.
I have 2016 Ford Explorer and the passenger side heated seat does not work. The switch lights up and stay on but it does heat up. Do you know what the problem is?
My guess would also be a bad heating element. As in a wire isn’t broke like this one, but it just no longer gets hot. I’d replace the same way I did in this video. It can’t be a fuse or something because you’re getting lights staying on with the button. Also go under the seat and make sure it’s all plugged in. But like I said you’re probably going to be replacing it.
Thanks for this video! 2 questions....#1. I went to my local Ford dealership & they charge $83 for the bottom element & $55 for the top. Did you purchase yours from a dealer or auto parts store? #2. My switch is doing the exact same thing as yours when I turn it on. How do I know which element to replace?
I bought mine from my local Ford dealership. And I included the part number in the video so you can give that to them. It’s always the bottom that goes bad because sitting on the seat crushed the wires. The back one doesn’t get as much abuse.
No problem. This was a few years ago so maybe prices went up for the heating element. But at the time of this video the price was $27 or whatever I said in the video.
killab1225 I’ve never experienced that, but my guess would be that button you’re pushing is faulty. When on remote start it has a sensor that determines if it should distribute heat or air depending on outside air temperature. That works and so does the heat because it’s warm then. But if your manual selector in the truck is broke it may not be able to turn up or down the heat and is just stuck on cold.
If the lights light up and it gets hot off remote then the actual pad works, and the button. Check fuses, but I don’t think that’s the problem either. Maybe a relay?
@killab1225 check with your local ford dealer. I had an same type of issue with a 2018. Ford has put out TSB (technical service bulletin) regarding this issue but haven’t come up with a solution yet. Not sure what year vehicle you’ve got. The solution was given is to cycle the heat switch on/off. In the end I had a bad element.
