As Portuguese it makes me really happy to see this. Our canned fish is so underrated in our own country but it's the only sector of fishing that we actually get profit from.
If you are from another country, please don't forget to try some of those in gourmet restaurants, the quality is unbelievable and the flavours just as great, taste a bit of our culture!
Thank you Great Big Stories for the great video!

I remember first learning about this from Bourdain--- craftsmanship in a product that most Americans at the time saw as having a fairly low ceiling. It was so amazing-- especially as I eat probably 5 cans of sardines/tuna/smoked oysters every week now.

A few years ago I visited Portugal and dined at a tinned seafood restaurant. One wall was covered with shelves of canned fish...the variety was amazing. Japan also has tons of high quality canned seafood. It's very underappreciated. Excellent video. 👍👍

That sound is typically made when the letter 'r' is at the beginning of a word. In this case the word is 'representa', which in European Portuguese sounds like 'hcheprezent-uh'
From what I could hear sounded like "Eu pensar que esta tradição, já está de minha família quatro generações, representa muito na história deste país, para mim só pode ser um orgulho."
The dude just went real heavy on that inital R so it sounded like he was clearing his throat, haha.

It has been 2 years, but it did boom a bit during the pandemic, at least in the beginning. Makes sense, with everyone avoiding unecessary socialization and a bit of fear from how long things will take, most people bought a lot of canned sardines and tuna. By now things normalized, ofc. And is good for the canning industry.
