    Watched this some time ago, but watched it twice tonight. Thanks for the lucid explanation. It really helped me. Don't use AF2 enough, will try to change that.
    2nd Topic: I was amazed at the neat changes in magnification that occurred in the video. Is this a Mac feature? I have a Win 11 PC. I would really like to get functionality similar to what you have. Any suggestions?

    Great & helpful video, thanks! When you save it in that "linked file" mode, where are the raw adjustments stored?

    Very informative, thanks. I hope you are going to do more Affinity Photo videos. I have used it for years as well as the iPad version which doesn't seem to be updated yet, but I like to be able to edit while traveling on my iPad and I recently shut down my Adobe plan after over a decade.

    Thanks for revealing the details of the embedding switch. I wondered if the Affinity changes were added to the NEF file and was a bit worried about whether that might affect processing the NEF file with other editors. A relief to learn about how it works. Now I don’t have to worry nor experiment.

    Excellent! Thanks for the demo. I just got the version 2 package yesterday and was curious, how this specific enhancement would work. Happy to having found it in your channel. ;-)

    Wow. Thanks. I was thinking of getting V2 and it appears it has a steep learning curve. Still might have to download a trial version anyway. Photoshop Express on my MAC has been a pain as well.

    I'm learning Affinity Photo 2 Anthony and I'm not seeing a before/after toggle button. Do you know where it is? Thanks for this tutorial, Affinity Photo 2 is brand new to my brain. 😎

    You might note that once you pick a method of saving the raw file - embedded or linked - when you go back to edit the raw file and save the changes as an affinity photo, it still will be an embedded file. You can't change the 2nd edit to a linked file. You would have to start over again as you did in the demonstration

    I currently use DXO Photolab for all my raw processing and only use Affinity when I need to do something which it does better. I'm very familiar with Photolab but not so much with Affinity.
    Would you agree that Photolab will always do a better Raw processing job than Affinity Develop module. I'm thinking lens corrections, Deep Prime noise reduction etc.

    • @stsofian
      @stsofian ปีที่แล้ว

      ofc the photolab is better for pure raw editing but is more expensive as well. Affinity photo at the other hand its more photo manipulation program but it offer a decent raw editing for the price point. I think Affinity is very strong program and worth the price and you will get all the future updates so go and try the free 30 day trial and then maybe buy it to help the developers for further improvements.

      @@stsofian Thanks I did upgrade to Affinity 2 and use it more and more. But only for pixel editing. All my Raw editing is done in Photolab 6 Elite.

    You want to say that when a raw file is moved to the "Photo Person" section and processing is performed with it, the picture is not rasterized and processing occurs with the full information of the raw file? 🤔

    Has the Nikon Z8 been added for this editor?

  • @TufferImages
    @TufferImages ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool feature but it has its limitations.
    First thing I do when I develop raw edits into the photo persona is to duplicate the layer and apply denoise with Topaz plugin. Unfortunately the plugins won't work unless you rasterise to a pixel layer, therefore it's no longer an editable raw file.
    Is there a way to save without the embedded raw data to reduce the file size?

    I'm curious to know what relationship the brightness adjustment has to exposure in RAW edit?

  • @Pasta221
    @Pasta221 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it is annoying that they put it to pixel persona by default opening photo 2 for the first time. I just gladly tested the new feature before trying it on an actual proper image, because I thought it was "re-editable" period and not an option! so I missed that tiny little window and had to google if I missread the new features or not. until I saw that little window. I can see how it have without people even knowing "destructively" edited images in projects where they will soon realise that, woopsie daisy! I missed a tiny little drop down checkbox! welp. gotta re do the RAW edit then and be annoyed. but im glad the feature is finally here, just that it would make life easier if it was by defualt opening the app for first time to be set to RAW layer in my opinion! less headaches down the line as it wont really hurt you if you are not gonna edit the image further later anyway!
    Anyway rant aside, thanks for the tutorial/preview!

    I have affinity photo. Is affinity photo 2 an upgrade or a completely different new program?

    • @alangauld6079
      @alangauld6079 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's an upgrade in that it will keep all your previous presets and macros etc. But it's a new program in that you have to buy it (it's not a free upgrade). You do get a discounted price (not sure for how long...) and it's less than the old full price of Affinity v1 so kind of like an upgrade price from other products. And all future upgrades in the v2 stream will be free (as was also true of affinity v1). But there will be no new upgrades to v1 although you can, of course, continue to use it for as long as you want.

    Unfortunately the file size becomes 5 times as big with embedded raw. I was hoping this could be an option to Lightroom but it’s just not.

  • @patrickcarrierephoto
    @patrickcarrierephoto ปีที่แล้ว

    That new feature is akin to the Smart Object in Photoshop?! But in Affinity, you can link the RAW...

    • @qanittakmeel
      @qanittakmeel ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It has two options - one embed the raw file in the Affinity Photo or you can have it linked. The former makes the file size huge.
