The Panasonic AC90 DOES have the ND filter. While we did not talk about it in the video, as you stop down the lens, there is a point where the ND Filter begins to slide into place. With the small image sensors you can not stop down the lens too far or diffraction kills the resolution. As you switch to the higher F-Stops, the ND is sliding into place, rather than stopping down the lens to a point of killing the resolution. I'm running out of space, please see part 2.
I only got to play with the camera for a short time at DV-Expo West. However, Barry Green, who can be found on the DVXUser Forum (search for "DVXUser Forum" using YAHOO and look under Panasonic, HMC CAMS) has had the camera to test for some time. He's in a better position to answer your questions. Sign-Up for this Forum is free.
It is a pity, I so waited that will appear, really it was difficult to make it to the producer? One more question, the display deceives on color as in HMC-40 or with color everything is normal?
Thanks. I have been looking for a working camera that is not a super high end to shoot videos with. You all rock!! I'm buying it. But this actually has high end features like 1080p 60. Wow.
Both are good cameras, so either will work fine, but if you want the best image stabilization I've ever seen in any camera around this price range the Panasonic AC90 wins. Please understand that I'm biased toward the Panasonic, because I'm so impressed with all the features of this camera and the price is amazing too, $2,225 (USA dollars).
Thanks for this vid. Answered alot of questions I had about the AC90. And Thanks Panasonic for making simultaneous recording to 2 SD cards. For my needs, I am required to have two copies of the footage, but the cheap Video Recorders are all uncompressed, and won't work for the 6-8 hours I need, so I was going to have to buy as $1,500 external recorder, but no longer. I am very excited about this Cam. thanks again for the very informative video.
Thanks for the review. Does this computer support a LANC of any sort? Also, most of my use is in indoor poorly lit situations. I need exceptional detail at low light, not sure if you know anything about the cameras performance in low light. The camera will almost always be mounted on a tripod so the image stabilization isn't that big a sell for me. Knowing this, would you still recommend the camera for my needs, thanks
PART 2: AFTER seeing your video I can understand what you want to do. You want to keep the iris open wide in full daylight. A fixed ND could be put into place before the shoot and a variable ND would require some reaching into the lens hood. Not impossible, but a bit of a pain to deal with. I do not have any detailed specifications on the camera. However Barry Green is now testing the camera. Please use YAHOO to search for, "DVXUser Barry Green Panasonic AC90 DV Expo" to see his comments.
Hi, I also tested the camera. (see youtube AG-AC90 vs GH2 or buy GH3) It is nice But as it lacks an ND filter, I definitely would need one. But the Lenshood is fixed (unremovable) so it is very difficult to use a variable ND. Therefore I thought to put a mattebox / filter holder in front. But which one will fit (as the lens hood is fixed). Any ideas? Bob, do you know the sizes of the fixed lenshood?
Sorry for the late reply (don't check this email account a lot). As Far as I know there is NO ND on the AC90, only a 'electronic / digital' ND, but I wonder how it exactly works. Are you saying, the higher the F number (F11 instead of F3) the lower the resolution? I did not know this. Another good reason to use an additional ND filter. I will contact Barry Green. Many thanks!
Naive Question sorry. First things first: Im looking for a camcorder to upgrade to, because i shoot action videos and im attracted by the 1080p 60fps function of the ac90. I was looking at the ac160 but it was too expensive for me. Q: I was wondering what is the difference between PH mode and PS mode? I noticed 1080p 60fps was only available in PS mode rather than PH mode. Thank you for your reply :)
i am in wedding shoot today but here somethg problms in my 90 panasonic camera (his power is off after 10 second and power off whats problems in my camers plz tell just (thanks )
Pawan Mandhotra My best guess is it's a battery problem, but I'm not 100% sure. If the battery is weak, the camera will shut down. If it's not the battery, you'll have to take it in for service.

It's like the Panasonic HMC40 where you can select one of several choices: 3200K, 5600K, Auto, & Manual White Balance.

I would have liked to see it done like the Panasonic HMC40, but it wasn't.
Consider it a trade-off.
I feel it is ideal for news gathering
