I also got the Opiate Ep when it first came out. It's still one of my favs. I agree with your comment that their later albums (the last 2) don't do it. All build up with no delivery of the "knockout punch" like the early albums.
I like Danzig era Misfits the best but some of the Graves songs are really good. They matured with their songwriting and wrote some interesting songs but it’s a whole different thing and I totally understand the blind shitting on Graves-era stuff so all good
Being such an avid watcher of all your content and listening to commensurate style of music it should be clear that I don't get invited to a lot of parties. But if I ever do, I'll be telling everyone about my super close homeboy Finn Mckentys second TH-cam channel
Speaking of Sepultura, Max and Igor (Cavalera Conspiracy) rerecording the early albums has been awesome. Morbid Visions, Bestial Devastation, and Schizophrenia still hold that old raw sound but just cleaned up a bit and mastered in a way you can hear it all. They really kept the soul of those albums. It really shows you can record something with todays tech and keep the sound of a late 80's underground release.
I don't know, Finn.... "Lateralus" is a pretty cool song.... I don't think that there are too many bands who could write and record something so splendid and epic.
I am a casual TOOL enjoyer, I listen to Opiate and Fear Innoculum only and have yet to actually dive into the other albums (though I have heard many of their most famous songs) I'm sure that the hardcore fans probably consider these blasphemous statements and im okay with that
Not sure if I'm "hardcore" or not, But I've been listening to them since I was 12 back in 2001. Not blasphemous. It's just interesting that you've heard only their first and last album. Isn't it interesting, though, hearing the evolution of their sound?
One thing though that I think the Graves era had going for it that the Danzig era lacked were the intro tracks. But that's probably just because most or a handful of my favorite albums all have intros.
Classic Tool fan move: the ol’ “if you don’t like Tool, you just aren’t smart enough to get it” play. Come on you guys. At the end of the day they’re just a rock band. It’s not like you’re listening to some avant-garde jazz or classical piece. Get over yourselves
@EchoMountain47 Of course, you misunderstand what I meant, but that isn't surprising considering your post. Maybe my post was too long for you? Anyways, I'll try to simplify what I said so you can follow along. Tool writes long songs, and you need to have a decent attention span to really appreciate all the nuiances packed into them. They aren't the 3:30 verse, chorus, verse, bridge, outro type songs that are radio friendly. If that's what you like, great! Rock out! But, you need to understand that doesn't do it for everyone. Some people need a little more in their music to scratch that itch, and Tool does it for a lot of people.
@@tonymuzzi3947 look man, I’m not trying to be mean about it. In all seriousness, I like some of their stuff. My grandma has never been to Cincinnati but she puts chili on spaghetti noodles. But I mean real chili that I made or even sometimes she’ll get hormel chilly from the can
Those two Michael Graves albums were awesome
I agree about the bacon. I don't eat meat now, but when I used to, I would say I couldn't give up meat because of chicken and bacon. One morning I had a cooked breakfast and there was some marinated mushrooms, which I was really enjoying and not interested in the bacon really at all. Gave up meat the next day
Oh man, I agree 100% with the "it work best when they're barely holding it together" opinion. To me that's almost like listening to an improvisation, it feels so much more free and exciting. That's one of the reasons I love NOFX's Animal Liberation, the whole records is on the brink of disaster. That's what hardcore should be imo.
Im very neutral on Tool just going off their music... Its their fans who make me despise them!
You are not alone my friend.
there is a genre us musicians call .'production metal' where the songwriting, riffs are stock standard,(boring,re hashed
) but the production is really high end, this is the way of the world now,no point dissing them,it's industry standard now, peace, rock on.
Never thought I'd be called a poser by my good friend Finn for liking Graves-era Misfits.
Opiate and undertow are solid😂
