Morgan's first episode, at least, tried to show how she became the woman she is in the Mandoverse. A traumatic event like the nightsister slaughter could do a lot to Morgan. Barriss's story was better overall. Her duo with Lyn showed how the inquisitors were a much worse influence than the jedi.

Definitely agree with your points here! It's really execution that's hit or miss, but bringing the (Singing) Mountain Clan back could be huge for the Mandoverse and Ahsoka S2

Been looking for a good Star Wars channel for a while. You guys are perfectly neutral. I’m sick of the over the top reactions, positive and negative. All other SW TH-camrs are too annoyingly to one side of the spectrum or the other-too emotional and seem to either love everything or hate everything.

Thank you! That's what we pride ourselves on haha. We present our point of views from a place of love for Star Wars, while also being realistic about its flaws. Hope you enjoy the channel and our community!

I found this to be really disappointing compared to Tales of the Jedi. I think Liam made a good point that the shorts format works better for characters we already know well rather than characters we know nothing about so all the development is rushed and inconsistent because it's covering tiny points in stories that need more to work at all. And on top of that a lot of the writing was just super nonsensical compared to the last show.
Morgan's motivation was barely built upon. Her first episode was OK, I liked that they brought back the human lightside witches from the EU, but I thought it was a bit odd how Morgan's decision to not sit around doing nothing to run away or prepare for an attack by the droids was treated as the wrong decision by the story. Like I get the idea is that she's emotional and doing this for irrational reasons and that's the problem, but the story doesn't address the practical concern of "we need to defend ourselves" that Morgan brings up.
In the second episode, we learn she invented TIE Defenders, which seems odd given that Nightsisters aren't known for their engineering prowess and at no point does she mention having taken a crash course in the subject during her time with the Empire, and the fact that we only ever see her in charge of 1 small, seemingly technologically primitive town. Unless she had some genius engineer working with her, in which case, why didn't Thrawn go recruit that guy instead? Then we learn that her motivation is "revenge", but against who? The Separatists have been defeated, Grievous and Dooku are dead. Who exactly is she trying to get revenge against?
Then in the third episode the New Republic, in keeping with their depiction throughout these shows as brain-dead idiots, have sent 1 ambassador and 5 guards to tell Morgan to stop being evil and surprise surprise they all die.
Barriss' first episode was ... OK, I guess. I liked that they tried to humanize Barriss and didn't just have her immediately accept the Empire, given that her criticism of the Republic and the Jedi in TCW was essentially that they were becoming a super militaristic and corrupt Empire and that they were hypocritical in betraying their ideals. Sure, that criticism is dumb, and it doesn't make her a good guy or at all justified, but it should remain consistent.
Then in the second episode Barriss seems at first to be convinced that the Empire is good and is bringing order, which is a big jump in development since as I just mentioned she was against the Republic for its increasingly militaristic approach, which the Empire took up to 11, so why does she suddenly now think that "bringing order" is a good thing? Then after that she convinces a child to tell her where the Jedi is and then the Inquisitor kills everyone, and she doesn't even apologize to the kid or anything or seem all that shocked that her actions got an entire village killed, but the story still portrays her as being sympathetic and nice to the kid, which is just hilarious. Then she convinces the Jedi to stand down because she believes that the corruption of the Jedi is over and that the Empire will give her a better life, which again, why does she believe this? What did she see in the Empire that made her think it's better than what came before, when again, in the first episode they killed a guy for wanting to leave and made her kill a guy to join their ranks? You'd think if she was against "an army fighting for the darkside" and "the jedi council only believing in violence" she'd notice the Empire and the Inquisitors are more violent and darksider-ish than the Republic and the Jedi ever were? Then the Inquisitor kills the Jedi and she pushes the Inquisitor off a cliff because she decided to change her mind now and not after the other Inquisitor killed a whole village.
In the third episode Barriss does a complete 180 ... off-screen. Sure a lot can change in the decades of time but we are never shown that in any detail so it's rushed and feels unconvincing, as Liam mentioned. Making her a mustache-twirling villain would've been boring, and I'm glad they didn't do that, but making her a 100% complete lightsider almost entirely off-screen is just as boring. Then she just lets the Inquisitor go after the fleeing people she saved because she "doesn't know the path", and I guess she's willing to bet their lives on that even though she might find them by chance anyways. Then the Inquisitor stabs her and she either dies or she doesn't because lightsaber stabs to the gut just aren't fatal anymore nowadays. Then Barriss says the Inquisitor will find the way out if she stops being evil for some reason because I guess it's a metaphor or whatever. Just a disappointing episode all-around.

You make some really interesting points here! We're more open to that final episode because it seemingly has to take place years later and it's back to her original EU depiction. We both do feel that second episode has her very hesitant and trying to use the language of the Empire and Inquisitorious to riase questions for the Fourth Sister and their collective actions, but Sanak definitely would like to see some media fill in Barriss' time between becoming and inquisitor and her turn, even if it's not a long stretch.

Very disappointing compared to Tales of the Jedi. I will watch TotJ many times over. But this first run of Tales of the Empire, no thanks. Give us Vader after Revenge of the Sith. Show his mental and emotional anguish as he deals with the loss of Padme and the outcome of the duel with Obi-Wan. Give me a young Darth Maul as he is being trained by Palps .But why limit it to the Empire. Tales of the Sith can give us Darth Bane stories. How about Tales of the Old Republic. Introduce these amazing characters and use that to spring board into an animated Old Republic series

We agree that there isn't really much 'Empire' in the shorts for sure. Check out Charles Soule's Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith comic run from 2017, it's exactly what you're looking for in Vader. Maul's origins could be very interesting, but Old Republic and Bane deserve bigger introductions than just these shorts can provide
