33:03: "If anything bad happens to Manfred ever, I'm gonna fucking riot." *cue traumatic flashbacks* 😬 EDIT; I've also had Emmrich become a Lich. I just head-canon that, okay, Emmrich can live for eons, right? He'll be able to find Manfred again eventually... somehow. I think. Hopefully.
I chose to revive Manfred because...Well the argument being made of "Accepting mortality by letting him rest" didn't make sense to me, because Emmrich wants to become a Lich specifically to avoid mortality. Yes he has to "die" to achieve it, but not in a meaningful way. To me his arc of accepting death is more complete by trading away his immortality.
@@godqueensadie i agree! and Manfred is a spirit anyways, not a living person, so allowing him to “rest” doesn’t really make much sense as he isn’t dead and will continue to exist in the Fade. i think Emmrich wanted lichdom for the wrong reasons, and having him give that up helps him move past his fear of death in a much better way than becoming immortal.
I chose to let Emmrich become a Lich at first but ended up loading back after a short time to change it to save Manfred. But I have played a mourn watch rook that encouraged Emmrich to become a Lich too. My favorite choice is to keep Manfred. Some things in the game are a little cheesy but in a sort of funny way or at least trying to be? I think that’s why it comes off as immature at times. The writing in a few places definitely could have used some polishing. But also that weird bit with Emmrich when Manfred gets destroyed kind of reminds me of how I react to someone in danger. Not so dramatic as he 😂 but I do freeze up and physically can’t react for a time. I think it’s trauma related.
i think even concerning emmerich's development is better, he is scared of dying and i feel like a big part of wanting to be a lich is because he doesn't want to die so this quest being brave and then realizing death isn't so scary and worth it for the ones you love is just an overall better ending in my opinion though i feel a lot may go with the lich thing because emmerich goes on even before the choice how he wants to be one and not much about manfred so they think he'd prefer that over manfred, but he doesn't necessarily.. he says it's all worth it it's just beautiful
Opposite happened to me. I reloaded and chose Lich instead. It made me too uncomfy how they talked Emmrich into this even tho he clearly wanted to let go
I must admit I played the game 4 times now and I never chose the Manfred option, I reloaded after the first time. I felt so uncomfortable bc Emmrich was so clear with wanting lichdom and letting Manfred rest. I felt like Rook was talking Emmrich into it for their own sake and it made me super uncomfortable so I reloaded. I am happier with the Lich choice... EDIT: so idk if you show your second play through too but I'd love to see your reaction to the Lich path ☺️
just look at Emmrich and listen to the emotion in his voice at 1:01:11 - he clearly loves Manfred and says he wouldn't trade bringing him back for anything. he was only aspiring to lichdom because of his fear of death. helping him work past that fear, i think, is the better choice than just granting him immortality to make him forget about it. his reasons for wanting lichdom would probably end up making him hate immortality eventually. he was scared of dying, but now he has to watch everyone he cares about eventually die when they pass of old age and he lives on. i just can't bring myself to do it. i let him become a lich in one playthrough, but i'll never do it again
@@im_azraelle I watched that scene and obviously he reacts that way because the decision is made and he doesn't know the other path. In both paths he has regrets and is also happy in a way. It just didn't work for me. His fear of death was one reason he wanted lichdom but not the only reason. He wanted to explore the world in a different way and he was excited about that too. I know most people want to simplify it by saying he was just scared of death but that's honestly not it, sorry. Accepting Manfred's death and losing his fear of it was the only way to become a lich too if you actually listened to it.
@@SakikoSenpai "in both paths he has regrets and is happy", so you just said what the devs intended for us to feel, and that is that there is no "wrong" choice lol. i just think your view is a little skewed in saying that it's weird or uncomfortable to bring Manfred back, when Emmrich is clearly actually happier with Manfred staying around. and he wouldn't have asked you for help making the choice if he truly wanted lichdom above all else. if he wanted it more than Manfred, you wouldn't have been able to "talk him into it", he would've just made the choice on his own. and you're not talking him into anything, you're helping him make a choice which is what he asked of you. he's happy both ways, but i personally can't justify cutting off Manfred's connection to the world and to Emmrich when Manfred came into the physical world for a reason and they had grown so fond of each other, and i can't let Emmrich escape his fear of death through lichdom because i don't think it's a good solution and will cause more harm than good in the long run for him.
I've also played the game 4 times, but I always save Manfred. I've seen the other option - and there's banter about how Emmrich is taking Manfred's loss that makes me really not want to go down that path. To me, Emmrich's journey is about overcoming his fear of death. As a Litch, his fear just transfers to fear of everyone he loves dying instead. As a mortal, he's already making choices that help him move past his fear. (I'm not saying Litchdom is the wrong choice, it's just not a path I would take for him.)
