This was meant to be up earlier but TH-cam decided I hadn't blurred the genitals in the character creator enough and I had to reupload it... Anyway, our adventures have begun and I cannot wait to share this journey with you all! Any support on this first episode would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Joe 💚
may I give a a hint about class roles. Your party should be a balanced party so every party member is fulfilling a certain role in which he is very good at. Those roles are: "Face of the party" (the one who does all the talking with NPCs = needs high charisma) "Combat specialist" (the one who does high damage in combat) "Utility" (the one who unlocks chest, doors, traps with ease) "support caster" (the one you heals party members, buffs them, debuffs opponents) Certain classes are better for fullfilling certain roles by default than other classes obviously. I give you a "default overview". (Disclaimer : Although when you know how the mechanics work you can build basically almost every class (not every but most of them) into a specialist in any of these roles, but if you don´t then go "default") Face of the party = Bard, Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock (simply because charisma is their main stat) That doesn´t mean you need to choose one of those classes for your main character, it means those classes are best for talking, which can be done by party members as well, it don´t have to be the main character. Combat specialist = Monk, Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock Wizard, Sorcerer = All very capable to do very high damage from the get go when built that way. Utility = Rogue, Bard, Ranger (Rogue is by far the best for that) Support caster: Cleric, Druid, Bard, Wizard, Sorcerer = Wizard + Sorcerer either built for high damage dealing or built for support casting buiding those for doing both is not a good choice. (those who are placed first are also either the best class for that role or when there are equal strong classes then those who are first mentioned are just easier to play/to build for that role, so the order is not totally random) Note: Don´t specialize in more than 2 roles with one class (as you can see some classes are suitable for several roles by default), even specializing in 2 roles is almost too much for certain classes but still doable when you exactly know what you are doing. So for instance a Bard who is face of the party + and intended to become very good in utility + and intended to become a very good support caster will not work well, you have to decide between + good in utility or + good in support casting (in my humble oppinion I would go for support casting because he is very good in that unless you have already a very good support caster in your party = "to find the best balanced party" is key) But in general : So no "skill monkeys" who can do everything (but that then just very mediocre) are needed but "specialists" who are very good in 1 thing what they are doing and maybe depending on the class also a bit supportive in a second thing are needed for a good balanced party..
Just one thing: Even when there is a timer for x turns until something happens and you have to run somewhere, it might be better to kill at least some of the enemies so you do not get crowded - disengage is an action, and attacking is an action. If your attack could kill the enemy, don't disengage, kill it, so it can't hurt you again. And if you don't disengage and just run away (and don't dash for longer movement) - always take that ranged shot at the enemy - doesn't cost you anything to use all your actions. Contrary to D:OS2, you can't take unused action points into the next round. You got lucky with a lot of misses from the enemies and very good use of the rush attack at the end, so all was well, but you had me a bit worried when you simply ignored all the enemies and got to the point where the next three appeared.
@@gethriel and yet the people demand more. Change with the times, my dear. Try something new. Go in without judgement and let others enjoy things even if you don't. Do *you* have a game you'd recommend I try?
Enjoy Baldur's gate! As a warning, the community can be a bit.. passinonate in the tips and suggestions they put in the comments. Just know that any choice or path you take is valid, missing stuff is ok, and optimizing 100% isn't necesary at all. Have fun!
@@robnens exactly. There are only 3 wrong ways to build a character: copying someone else's, sacrificing your choices for the whims of others and not building one at all
I’d argue that there’s nothing wrong with following an optimized build if that’s what you find fun, but it is wrong to pressure people into playing that way if they don’t want to.
@@greenmanjoe1 You cannot watch more than 40-50% of game content with one playthrough. You just have to make some choices which are branching - so you either see one thing or other. I am currently playing 3rd times [because of new patch with new classes] and I still discover some new places and quests. Its gonna be like Witcher 3 - another 1k hours Game.
Chuckled at your reaction to the game telling you to make a guardian after you just went "phew" since you finally finished your character's creation :'D We've all been there
🤣 "I've just made a twink." and "Oh look at that: I've made another twink." That's my character creation trap, too. Well done, Joey 😊 fun watch. Always great to experience things I love through fresh eyes. You're going to love it too, thanks for uploading.
The dark urge is a little special because it's your own custom character but it already has a premade backstory that you discover as you play. That's why it's recommended for a second playthrough
Long rest often. Ignore the “ticking clock”. Very few events have a true ticking clock to trigger them, so explore everything thoroughly (you’ll still miss stuff and that’s okay). Many cut scenes, especially the romance scenes, are triggered by long rests, so make use of the mechanic. If you get to a point that says “make sure to tie up loose ends before proceeding “, check your quest log that you’ve done everything you want to do with those quests. Some quests will get locked if you proceed through those points. Save your game so you can get back if something locks that you don’t like. And partial rest a few times to make sure to get all your cut scenes without wasting resources.
Ye the game is VERY clear about events that actually do have a timer. When game is being vague it means theres no actual timer. Things like burning houses and people about to die in front of you are obviously going to progress if you long rest. You cant just walk away from ongoing situations.
48:19 A little note about Lae’zel (PLZ DO NOT HATE HER) everyone dismisses her character because she’s “harsh and mean to the player” but to me someone who has romanced her four times she is super sweet if you get to know her
She has one of the best character arcs. You might laugh when she calls herself as one of the more chill and humorous Gith, but she is 100% right. She is an absolute joy as she learns to be herself rather than just a tool of Vlaakiths will.
She is direct and perfect. For a gith pretty beautiful too.I love her she kidnapped by orin and I saved her before doing any of her quests since I missed her a lot she wasnt there almost whole act 3 due to being kidnaped almost as soon as I got into the city.
My best suggestion is to not be afraid to take long rests frequently. Alot of story progressions happen during long rest cutscenes and only a handful of quests are time sensitive.
@@Usurpationblitz He is a bard, so he will have 3 short rests per day. For most party compositions that he will likely have, there won't be a specific need to long rest a lot. That said, there is no reason for not to collect food since you have unlimited food storage in your camp, and food doesn't spoil. In fact, my suggestion would be to go full loot goblin mode, get anything not nailed to a chair and send it to camp in case you may need it later.
@@Imman1s I think you're missing the point - There is a ton of Long Rest story content. Specifically, if you enjoy learning about your companions' backstories, it's a great idea to take a Long Rest more often. :) But I do agree - It's easy to gather food from the environment. Not a bad idea to pick up as much as possible!
Also, if you're short on food (which will happen very early in the game on Tactician, as it requires more supplies), you can access story content by taking a Partial Rest, which uses no food but acts more like a short rest in terms of HP and other resources regained.
One minor tip for you. Don't be afraid to use 'examine' on your foes (and friends). You have picked a higher difficulty, and knowing a little about your opponents can mean the difference between life and death.
Don't stress about doing a 100% run, this game has so much stuff in it your bound to miss some things but that's what second playthroughs are for! And third playthroughs... and fourth playthroughs... and, well you get my point lol (I've completed 7 playthroughs already and keep finding new stuff). If you ever feel like Tactician mode is too hectic, you can adjust your difficulty settings at any time. EDIT: YES, we might have a Galemancer looking to romance the rizzard! JOIN US.
Something to take note when playing: DO take long rests! While the mindflayer parasite seems like to give you a time limit- you do not have a strict time limit! You will learn more about this plot point as you play. My first playthrough was ROUGH because I was super reluctant to take long rests. Again: TAKE LONG RESTS!!
The Dark Urge for a second playthrough is a must! It changes so much and has the potential to be either the most disturbing or the most wholesome stories ever. So glad you went with Bard for first playthrough. They are my favorite! Can't wait for the 12 new subclasses coming soon
Having played BG 1+2 it was pretty awesome to play DUrge in my first playthrough. I do wonder though how confusing that might be for someone who doesn't know what that means
@@deptusmechanikus7362 I can see your point but there are differences regarding the themes at play and there are changes in player options - and I think the added context for what is a new choice for players (differentiated from Tav's options) can immediately stand out as part of the Durge experience... whether or not you like this is personal opinion - I can see the merit of going in 100% blind, but not even our* friend here did that (watching the trailers + the character intros before making a character).
@@axelminus There are differences between Tav and Durge, but ultimately tis up to the individual. Idk about confusing on its own as Durge is just another foundation to build onto.
Until you have to start catering to his special diet in Act 1...I need this stuff, man! But, in the end, I do like having an AoE cannon, so I keep him around for sure.
Take your time, study your skills, equipment and the combat log. If you fail a check, you can sometimes try again with a companion. Let them help you. Don't be afraid to rest frequently. Talk often to your companions. In the camp and outside of the camp. There is no 'right' or 'perfect' way to play this game. Have fun.
Bro I got so scared I wasn’t gonna be into this game because I wasn’t that into DOS1, but I enjoyed this game so much. It was a blast just getting the basics and understanding all the lingo figured out and having a fun time on my first play through. The longer you play, the more your brain just kinda opens up to all the things you can do, how you do them, and the various outcomes. Easy GOTY winner. One of the best games ever.
Welcome to Baldur's Gate, and Dungeons & Dragons. This game is the best representation I've found of what playing the actual Table Top version of the game is like. So...yes there is a lot of lore that is in D&D...you can learn it as you go. There is no RIGHT way to play this...each thing you do is going to be different, Each class is different. As is each race and sub race...so there is no way to play it the same way as someone else did. Also...your choices DO matter and effect the way the world, your companions and enemies see you.
(7:51 you are so real for this. welcome to the Gale Enjoyers club) half-drow bard charlatan was a really solid choice of starting race, class, and background. you get shield proficiency and 1 free daily cast of darkness at level 5 from your race, speech skills and hand crossbow proficiency from your class, and you're going to get some really funny class-specific dialogue options throughout the game. depending on which subclass you go with, bards tend to be really versatile not only as spellcasters but sometimes weapon users. charlatan is probably one of the most useful backgrounds for the playstyle you're trying to go with (especially if you don't have a rogue nearby), and in my personal experience they accumulate a lot more inspiration points through story events than most other backgrounds (only other bgs that come close for me are folk hero or haunted one).
I loved my Bard playthrough, (I have done 8 of them) I loved using the hand crossbows and pew pewing baddies while insulting them. So many options. That's the thing with BG3, you can play it multiple times, and in multiple ways. Just take your time, and my one tiny bit of advice, be a loot Goblin, everything has value and read the books, there are lots of clues in the books.
One tip is in dialogue when you see Intelligence, wisdom, charisma, etc. if you hover over the choices you can see what bonuses you have for that check. You might just want to full RP for your first playthrough and not worry about that but just a heads up. Loved the first episode!
I had never played D&D or CRPG before and I just started a week ago and am loving it! You’re in for an amazing journey and I’m here for the ride! Can’t wait to see your adventures!
Actually love that you read everything and watch introductions. That’s how I play so I know watching you play this will be fun. So excited for you! lol
Like others have said Dark urge is a great customizable origin character and, i found it to be incredibly fun. Im sure your first playthru will be a blast. I highly recommend playing thru at least twice, once with a non durge tav and okce as the durge. As i think the durge has a more fun mystery to solve. Enjoy! This game broke my brain woth how addicted i got lol.
14:00 im so glad you played as a Tav (custom character). Playing an origin first imo is one of the worst ways to experience the game for the first time. Origins, especially Dark Urge, are really intended for subsequent playthroughs
Just wish the game would let you know on your first playthrough that origin characters' backstories (especially the character introductions) are actual spoilers to what are supposed to be Act I reveals in their storylines. I know most of the 'plot twists' are obvious, but the specifics aren't. So it's kind of a shame.
I disagree: I did a Dark Urge playthrough as my first and it was far more rewarding than playing my next game as Tav. Firstly; Dark Urge origin ties to the main story best, second, it makes it feel like an actual sequel to BG1-2 story wise, not just theme. And you don't have to play an evil Durge: The good one is even better.
Followed closely by left shift which shows enemy view radius even when you are not seeking. Gives advance warning of enemy encounters before they show up on map.
The love for Gale is so real. I did that too. As for a tip, make sure to look at what actions and bonus actions you have available. That way you can take full advantage on your turn.
This was fun to watch! I was in Early Access for years before the game released, so it's fun to see someone jump into it fresh. A couple notes about game mechanics that will make things much easier for you (better to focus on fighting the enemies and enjoying the story rather than fighting the game mechanics). In combat, every turn each character in your party gets 1 action, 1 bonus action, and a certain amount of movement (default 9 meters for most races). The "action" is the primary thing you do on each turn; it's almost always best to use all available action points on every turn of combat, whether that be attacking an enemy, disengaging, dashing to get more movement, etc. Not using an action will naturally put you at a disadvantage for the overall fight. "Bonus Actions" are not something that you should always do, just something extra that you can do if the situation calls for it. This can include jumping, dipping your weapon in fire, shoving an opponent, etc. Movement is also critical to position your characters in the fight. I noticed you seemed to be clicking on objects/corpses or jumping to achieve movement; you can just click anywhere on the battlefield, just like when out of combat, and your character will run there as long as they have enough movement remaining for that turn. Any unused actions, bonus actions, and movement when you end the turn are lost; they do not carry over to the next turn so go ahead and use them as needed. These are the just the basics of course. There are ways later in the game to get an additional action per turn using spells or potions. Some classes gain the ability to perform certain skills using bonus actions rather than actions, which frees up your valuable action for something else. If you have a character dual wield, they'll use the action to attack with their main weapon and bonus action to attack with the offhand weapon. Fighting the game mechanics and not knowing what is possible can be frustrating so hopefully this helps make this a bit more enjoyable for you, especially since you picked Tactician! Good luck and have fun! .
I am looking forward for your next Episode. I like your first video! 😊👍🏻 And you are a lucky one too, because you can enjoy this adventure with a great bunch of updates, that came since the release. 🥰
Just subscribed I AM SO HERE FOR THIS RIDE OMG!!!!! Watching people playing Bg3 for the first time is my passion Edit: -Just finished and my first advice as someone with 1000+ hours and all the achievements on steam for this game: save-scumming might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine and it saved my first playthrough. f5 f8 are the real heroes. -One of the differences that I noticed from DOS 2 is that you can leave companions in the camp and then change them as you want them in the party that is very cool -in the camp there's a mirror, you can change your appearence there. -when you have a skill check the difficulty class is the minimum number you must get on the dice. -As a bard your character should do all the conversations with npc. 100% -Don't worry your genital choosing will not be in vain. -You could choose the voice in character creator -Fun fact: when you play a song near another bard they will start playing it too. Also if there is a crowd and you play your instrument you can make people gather and make money. if you don't have one equipt you will perform just not with an instrument.. -When in doubt before choosing an option on dialogue or skill check place your cursor on top of the skill, it will tell you if you have advantage or disadvantage and how many + points you have. -SLAP THE HAND! -Enjoy the ride. This is a one way journey.
@@greenmanjoe1 Yup, that moment was a giggle for all of us because we knew! Great tips from this person; you can also change your voice in the mirror as well as your appearance, by the way.
Something that’s going to help a lot while learning is that, while hovering over something and reading it’s description, you can press T to lock the description in place and then hover over the highlighted words with your mouse for an immediate explanation of what they mean.
I love watching people pick up BG3. I look forward to your next episodes. You're in for a treat! Best tip I can give would be to familiarize yourself with actions and bonus actions since action economy is key, especially on tactician.
So, my favourite D&D character of all time, (who I've been playing in a campaign since 2018,) is a High Half-Elven Lore Bard Charlatan! She's given me some absolutely incredible moments, so suffice to say, I had a big smile on my face watching you build your twink, hahah. Here's wishing you the best on your journey; I sincerely can't wait to see more of Joey!
Surprised that so far (just skimming down the comments) no one's immediately given you the advice to turn down the difficulty setting. Harder difficulties are best played (in my opinion) for later playthroughs. Balanced is honestly what I'd recommend. It's not super easy or hand holdy, but some fights are very hard and tricky and you might come to regret your current difficulty setting ^^;;
It's my first time stumbling onto you! Your blind playthrough is truly something special to witness. Good luck, adventurer! May Timora favor you and may Beshaba never learn your name!
Really enjoyed your playthrough! I’m looking forward to seeing Joey’s adventure play out. Get into the habit of quicksaving often, especially just before a dialogue option you’re not sure about, or a dice roll you really want to pass, so that you can redo if need be. Also quicksave before and after combat encounters. Explore, loot and sell all the things, talk to your companions in camp often. Talk to NPCs, even the animals-you never know who will have a quest for you. There are often multiple ways to solve a problem, and your bardic Charisma will get to shine; there are many instances where you can talk your way out of a situation, and even a few where you can convince enemies to kill themselves. As far as romance options go, they’re all good stories; Gale’s romance is *chef’s kiss* if you don’t mind his chatty nature and a slow burn.
7:53 was a cackle; that is the cutest meme. I felt abject horror as you killed that completely insignificant dead guy who definitely was not a potential companion that could've made your first fight easier. Then more cackling as you played a song as your first combat action, and even more as you proceeded to break your medieval guitar over an enemy as your first combat action that did actual damage. Then you proceeded to hit EVERY illithid button you shouldn't! You never re-equipped your lute, so you just ended up singing for your spells instead of playing. You didn't fight everything for experience, either, just ran. Absolutely fucking classic; so pure. This game is so much fun when someone doesn't know it inside out already! You've made it fresh.
Dark Urge is like custom+ basically. If u wanted ur own designed character with a unique story like an origin character does. Good for a second playthrough ideally though.
...and no offensive spells OR melee weapons. Mad respect for going with the roll without reloading, although not knowing what you missed is part of the charm of the first playthrough :p
@@Imman1s I’ve decided as a rule I’ll try not to save scum. But the main thing I’d like to not miss out on is lore. I might end up reloading if there’s a good bit of story I missed.
@@greenmanjoe1 That's important in BG3... there are a lot of plotlines that only open when you fail a roll and a lot of different ways to achieve your goals. And literally don't worry about the lore, whatever you miss in one playthrough, you can get in the next, obsessing over that is kind of pointless, since Larian made content that only a fraction of a 1 percent of all players will ever see. Last summer they released the player statistics after one year, and some of the stuff there is so rare that unless you keep playing for decades, is almost impossible for a single person to experience. Just think about the total permutations of origin characters, custom characters, races, subraces, classes, deities and backgrounds, romancing options (or the roasting you get if you don't get any), roll successes and failures that you can get... is virtually guaranteed that each combination has unique interactions that you only see under those specific circumstances.
also "I've accidentally made the perfect man" .. "i've made another twink" im crying. Literally all my tavs and durges are either twinks or gigantic monsters. Also ALSO you picking drow/half-drow is just *chefs kiss*. The TASTE@!
I JUST got to Act 2 literally a few mins ago (started playing at the start of November and slowly getting my way through) I adore this game, it's big fights and Little details. And the characters of course (❤Gale❤)
My absolute favorite moment of any new bg3 player is when you’ve finally finished the gauntlet of choices for your character and then BOOM “choose your guardian”…we’ve all been there. 😂 Can’t wait to see your journey!
It's fun watching a D&D newbie cause you're analyzing everything where when I started (and have played D&D before) I was just "well I want this spell and this class and sub-class and tieflings are my favorite race!" 😂😂😂
Hey, glad to see you okay this! Please don’t feel the need to be rushing, take your time, explore, enjoy. I hope you have as wonderful a time as I have
It was really refreshing watching someone who's unfamiliar with D&D learn about the world and mechanics for the first time. You made really solid character creation choices and I love that you embrace rp. Hitting an imp with your lute is exactly the kind of creative thinking you need to complete tactician mode on your first playthrough 😂 You can do it! I hope you enjoy the game, looking forward to your next video 😊
I'm only halfway through the video but you have such a pleasant personality, it's very entertaining to watch you play and comment. Also your character lowkey looks like Nicholas Galitzine.
Enjoying this. One tiny game play tip - odd numbers on ability scores are wasted. Even numbers are better because the modifiers round down. Every 2 points in an ability is +1 to the check.
This seems so fun! I saw your reaction to the trailers, and I'm so happy to see you start your BG3 journey! Having played this game way too much, its very fun to see the game through another player's eyes. Love your humor, laughed a lot during the vid!
The best tips I could give are probably related to learning more about how you can customize the user interface. You can bind specific actions to keys, and some of them are pre-bound (x for throw, z for jump, etc.). You can also expand the hotbar vertically to make room for more actions to show up on it by clicking on the + button next to the "End Turn/Enter Turn Based Mode" button on the lower right side of the hotbar. I tend to lock the minimap's rotation in the game options because having it spin while the camera spins is super disorienting for me, but some people prefer it that way. Some UI customizations are per-character, so each character can be set up how you want them. You can even assign various kinds of actions and items to the 'Custom' tab of the hotbar. If you mouse over an item and want to get more information on that pop-up, hit the T key, and that will keep the Tooltip open while you move the mouse so you can then move it over highlighted terms and icons in the pop-up window and get more explanations. On the 'spells' screen for each character (the K key) you can click on the 'Reactions' tab and set how some Reactions are triggered automatically or require a dialogue. I would strongly suggest going through each character and setting all reactions to prompt you for confirmation rather than having things automatic, that way you know what's going on and can make decisions about how and when to use your reaction. Depending on the classes you have in your party, different classes set up their available spells different ways. You have a set of spells that you can change out when you're not in combat, which make them available for casting, and a set of spells you "Know" based on your choices when you level up. Some spells are "always prepared" which means you don't have to assign them to your prepared list in order to cast them. Gale, as a wizard, can learn the most spells because he can "scribe" spells from scrolls you find, making him a very useful caster to have in the party... but he doesn't get any spells that are 'always prepared' except from items or special story events. Some D&D terms that will help: Each character can use one Action, one Bonus Action, and one Reaction each turn, and they get a certain amount of movement. Action (the green dot) is for attacks, hiding, and other things. Rogues can do some things as Bonus Actions that other characters can only do as Actions based on subclass and level. Bonus actions (the triangular icon) are 'quick' actions that often let you buff, heal, or do follow-up attacks, depending on your class and the feats you've chosen, and how your equipment is set up. The yellow bar in the party actions list will tell you how much movement that character has left that turn. Other resources are specific to each class and mousing over the icons will give you a description. Reactions are things that are triggered on an enemy's turn. The Shield Spell is an example of a spell that uses a Reaction to cast(HIGHLY suggested to keep this one ready for Gale). It will increase Gale's Armor Class if an attack is about to hit him, but it will not prompt you to use your Reaction if the attack's roll is too high for the Shield Spell to make a difference. The buff from Shield will last until Gale's next turn, so it'll continue to protect him. Finally, when your Bard hits level 3, you'll get to choose a Subclass, which will customize how the class plays from that point on in the game. You can also choose to multi-class by choosing a different class when leveling up. There are a lot of fun builds you can make by combining classes with strong synergies, but you can also play every character as a straight class and get through the game, so play the way that feels good to you. My favorite Bard class is the College of Swords, combined with dual hand crossbows, which lets you put out a lot of attacks with special effects, using your Bardic Inspiration dice to do special attacks. It's much like the Maneuvers for the Battle Master fighter class (the default class for Lae'zel). Most of all, try all the things! Save often and explore! If you wonder if the game will let you do a thing... save, and then try it... chances are, it will!
I think this is gonna be a great playthrough!! I hope you have so much fun playing! I'll pop in to watch for SURE!! (Lmfao at the twink making a twink >.< i think you're gonna LOVE Gale :3)
I really rarely comment, but I have to say this. I subscribed when i saw your reaction to the trailers, but it was just during the intro in this one, when you talked about choosing tactician in this one, and your reasoning for it, that I caught myself doing what I call the "impressed eyebrows" face, and having already subscribed, reminding myself to click the like. Not because you *chose* Tactician, specifically the reasoning you gave: you enjoyed learning the mechanics and the combat. Love that. That's a true gamer right there.
Just remember you have a move an action and a boness action at the first lvl's. this can grow a bit with some feats and /or classes in later lvls. Jump and dash are often overlooked but can be strategically useful. read your spells and have fun. :)
Ah, a fellow bard! Bro I found your channel from the Baldur's Gate 3 trailers reaction video you did and I was pretty hyped to see your playthrough, and you did not disappoint! You're doing awesome at picking up on the nuances of the D&D rules, and that DOS2 knowledge is coming in clutch for dealing with the UI. This is gonna be a great playthrough. Also: don't worry, there's no such thing as "too attractive" when you're a Bard 😉
You seem kinda new to DND lore, so you should know that those dragons in the intro are all extremely intelligent and the red ones like those are very evil. They all have names and their own story, and they're not exactly friendly creatures.
@deptusmechanikus7362 and thats where it becomes DM choice! This 'DM' wanted to have a more chill red dragon :) maybe it's just circumstance, or perhaps he's genuinely more chill as an individual. As a rule, though, red dragons are classic calamity dragons with a lot of greed and little respect for people. They're Tiamat's crew. And LBR dragons that hang out with githyanki... Well.. Most of the githyanki aren't chill either and their society doesn't encourage chill. Lae'zel is an unusual specimen.
I've played 5 times more or less, and watched countless others. Gotta say that blind play thru from someone who already played crpg is novel. I like that you are taking your time reading everything, slow play but with boring parts cut out. Definitely gonna follow the series
Excited to follow along with your playthrough! I love Joey! I also feel your pain with the character creation, I think everyone takes a long time in there to make decisions. I've started but not finished several campaigns, and it still takes me a long time!
Hey! I really enjoyed watching this play through. Looking forward to the next one. 😊 subscribed! My tip is to travel in stealth mode… allows you to see enemies easier and hopefully surprise them in the first round.
Yesterday I saw your video where you watched some teasers etc. You were so hyped, so I am exited to see you play the game too. 😊. Greetings from a little bit older person from Finland. Ps. A tip for playing. Talk to everyone, read everything, explore everything and enjoy. 😄
I got super attached to elf male 3, my first character. But I actually think that face is already in the game a couple of times. 😅 Found my long lost high elf druid twin Aelar... separated at birth from my Shanataran drow monk. 🤣
Welcome to Baldur's Gate 3, I hope you have a wonderful time playing through this game ^^ The most important tip I can give you is to play however you want ^^ This game is so open-ended and has so many different solutions to any situation that pretty much any type of character can excel ^^

33:48 I am so curious to see your face, when you make the next Stephan... 😂😂😂
may I give a a hint about class roles.
Your party should be a balanced party so every party member is fulfilling a certain role in which he is very good at.
Those roles are:
"Face of the party" (the one who does all the talking with NPCs = needs high charisma)
"Combat specialist" (the one who does high damage in combat)
"Utility" (the one who unlocks chest, doors, traps with ease)
"support caster" (the one you heals party members, buffs them, debuffs opponents)
Certain classes are better for fullfilling certain roles by default than other classes obviously. I give you a "default overview". (Disclaimer : Although when you know how the mechanics work you can build basically almost every class (not every but most of them) into a specialist in any of these roles, but if you don´t then go "default")
Face of the party = Bard, Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock (simply because charisma is their main stat) That doesn´t mean you need to choose one of those classes for your main character, it means those classes are best for talking, which can be done by party members as well, it don´t have to be the main character.
Combat specialist = Monk, Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock Wizard, Sorcerer = All very capable to do very high damage from the get go when built that way.
Utility = Rogue, Bard, Ranger (Rogue is by far the best for that)
Support caster: Cleric, Druid, Bard, Wizard, Sorcerer = Wizard + Sorcerer either built for high damage dealing or built for support casting buiding those for doing both is not a good choice.
(those who are placed first are also either the best class for that role or when there are equal strong classes then those who are first mentioned are just easier to play/to build for that role, so the order is not totally random)
Note: Don´t specialize in more than 2 roles with one class (as you can see some classes are suitable for several roles by default), even specializing in 2 roles is almost too much for certain classes but still doable when you exactly know what you are doing. So for instance a Bard who is face of the party + and intended to become very good in utility + and intended to become a very good support caster will not work well, you have to decide between + good in utility or + good in support casting (in my humble oppinion I would go for support casting because he is very good in that unless you have already a very good support caster in your party = "to find the best balanced party" is key)
But in general : So no "skill monkeys" who can do everything (but that then just very mediocre) are needed but "specialists" who are very good in 1 thing what they are doing and maybe depending on the class also a bit supportive in a second thing are needed for a good balanced party..
You got lucky with a lot of misses from the enemies and very good use of the rush attack at the end, so all was well, but you had me a bit worried when you simply ignored all the enemies and got to the point where the next three appeared.

absolutely. For a game that focuses on variety, some people get too stuck on the "right" way to play
I’d argue that there’s nothing wrong with following an optimized build if that’s what you find fun, but it is wrong to pressure people into playing that way if they don’t want to.

That moment when you first see Gale and hear him talk is so real.
I didn’t check the origin characters before making my first tav - when he popped out the first time in game 🫠👀👀👀 I wasn’t ready. 😂
The dark urge is a little special because it's your own custom character but it already has a premade backstory that you discover as you play. That's why it's recommended for a second playthrough
I chose that one for my Honor Mode attempt. That was a brilliant idea, LOL I made it, but quite a few surprises along the way for sure.
And partial rest a few times to make sure to get all your cut scenes without wasting resources.
just dont rest if, for example, you come across a burning building with people still in it
Ye the game is VERY clear about events that actually do have a timer. When game is being vague it means theres no actual timer. Things like burning houses and people about to die in front of you are obviously going to progress if you long rest. You cant just walk away from ongoing situations.
48:19 A little note about Lae’zel (PLZ DO NOT HATE HER) everyone dismisses her character because she’s “harsh and mean to the player” but to me someone who has romanced her four times she is super sweet if you get to know her
What do you mean, harsh? I had a thing for her from the moment she flew over me and threatened to kill me. Nice woman, can recommend.
She's my Bae'zel
Bae'zel for sure
I'll only add and say that there will be some scenes where long resting is not optimum, but the game will let you know fairly bluntly with narrative.
Food could be an issue, though. So collect as much food as you can
@@Usurpationblitz He is a bard, so he will have 3 short rests per day.
But I do agree - It's easy to gather food from the environment.

There are a lot of tips I could give, one of which is that The Dark Urge (known among us as "Durge") is recommended for a second playthrough.
I played it as a first and had a blast. Felt more fitting for a new player who knows nothing of the world to play as amnesiac character at first
Having played BG 1+2 it was pretty awesome to play DUrge in my first playthrough.

(7:51 you are so real for this. welcome to the Gale Enjoyers club)
half-drow bard charlatan was a really solid choice of starting race, class, and background. you get shield proficiency and 1 free daily cast of darkness at level 5 from your race, speech skills and hand crossbow proficiency from your class, and you're going to get some really funny class-specific dialogue options throughout the game. depending on which subclass you go with, bards tend to be really versatile not only as spellcasters but sometimes weapon users.
charlatan is probably one of the most useful backgrounds for the playstyle you're trying to go with (especially if you don't have a rogue nearby), and in my personal experience they accumulate a lot more inspiration points through story events than most other backgrounds (only other bgs that come close for me are folk hero or haunted one).
@@lawrencefosterjenkins8216 This is awesome to hear. Joey should be a worthy protagonist!
I gave my newest character the noble background. What they get inspiration for really throws me off sometimes 😅
But I agree, very solid combination!
One tip is in dialogue when you see Intelligence, wisdom, charisma, etc. if you hover over the choices you can see what bonuses you have for that check. You might just want to full RP for your first playthrough and not worry about that but just a heads up. Loved the first episode!

Joey The twink is so appropriate for a Bard lol.
14:00 im so glad you played as a Tav (custom character). Playing an origin first imo is one of the worst ways to experience the game for the first time. Origins, especially Dark Urge, are really intended for subsequent playthroughs
Yeah it really feels like it. I played as Ifan in DOS2 so I wanted to do something different for this
Just wish the game would let you know on your first playthrough that origin characters' backstories (especially the character introductions) are actual spoilers to what are supposed to be Act I reveals in their storylines.
By the way, the ALT key is your best friend. Hold it to highlight things around you. It makes searching for stuff a lot easier.
...but don't rely too much on it either. There is a load of "common" crap that doesn't get highlighted, so ALT or no ALT, keep your eyes peeled.
Followed closely by left shift which shows enemy view radius even when you are not seeking. Gives advance warning of enemy encounters before they show up on map.

Oh man, I love watching people experience this game for the first time. Welcome to the table, Joe!
Good luck and have fun!
.

-Just finished and my first advice as someone with 1000+ hours and all the achievements on steam for this game: save-scumming might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine and it saved my first playthrough. f5 f8 are the real heroes.
-One of the differences that I noticed from DOS 2 is that you can leave companions in the camp and then change them as you want them in the party that is very cool
-in the camp there's a mirror, you can change your appearence there.
-when you have a skill check the difficulty class is the minimum number you must get on the dice.
-As a bard your character should do all the conversations with npc. 100%
-Don't worry your genital choosing will not be in vain.
-You could choose the voice in character creator
-Fun fact: when you play a song near another bard they will start playing it too.

As far as romance options go, they’re all good stories; Gale’s romance is *chef’s kiss* if you don’t mind his chatty nature and a slow burn.
character creation being half the video is so real
Pro Tip: Quick Save frequently. Especially after big fights, respecs, or other time-consuming events that don't have an auto-save after them.

You have good energy and are super funny, subbed! Can't wait to watch this journey!
I just watched the reaction video from the trailer and Subscribe to see the gameplay lol
Eager to see your play through. Just finished watching your watching the trailers which I never did before. 😂😂 Enjoy the ride!

I swear sometimes I would actually pay money to be just offscreen explaining the little lore bits they don’t get.
6:43 - 8:01 Yesss, I feel SEEN haha
Subscribed! So excited for your playthrough, I love how invested you are already.
This is not a game, it's a journey. 🙃
It’s okay to make your character hot. It’s a charismatic bard.
Just remember you have a move an action and a boness action at the first lvl's. this can grow a bit with some feats and /or classes in later lvls. Jump and dash are often overlooked but can be strategically useful. read your spells and have fun. :)
I was waiting for you to figure out the subrace thing and I laughed when you did! It's so in depth!
Love seeing newcomers falling into the fiery pits of Baldurs Gate :)
Idk, Qudenos seems like a chill dude when you meet him. There's not much to discuss with him, but he doesn't seem to be actively malevolent
Yep that’s exactly how I plan to edit and play this. Taking my time but editing out the boring, tedious bits :)
Welcome to the best game ever! I really enjoyed watching you play and am looking forward to next time.
It was a pleasure to watch your venture into this realm!
33:00 My favourite male face. Everytime I start a new run I try to take another face. I can't! I love this face so much. 🤗
