    So, already 2 years has passed since making this video. The FM Duo still seems to be in the extreme price range (around 20 K USD), and the thing that seems to me to best fill the gap seems to be the Canon R5C with the dual fisheye lens at a combined price of about 4K. But I would expect that there will soon be an 8k at 60 fps camera for under 10k ... must be ... it's a niche whose time has come (use case is VR audiences for sports ... will be a massive market).

You mentioned there maybe a new consumer VR180 camera coming soon, do you have any more info on this, specs etc? BTW, I'm quite interested in Unreal Engine 5. particularly for film making, have you any experience with this? How to watch this video in 8K VR180? Quest 2 streams 4K low res sub-stream and the TH-cam App on Steam VR for HP Reverb G2 is broken long time ago. 4K Videodownloader gets 3840x3840 VP9 .MKV of only one eye. Better upload the 8K video "as download-version" without VR180 metadata for downloading and watching offline in 8K.

    • @ProtoVisionXR
      @ProtoVisionXR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe if he puts it on Oculus TV then Quest 2 can certainly do the full 8K. All other methods are like you said sub par.

      @@ProtoVisionXR God youtube VR really sucks. I also hate the way my controllers stay in view with the laser pointer when a video is playing. Anyway, I don't suppose you know if Oculus TV will accept 200 degree fov that the K2pro can produce?

    • @ProtoVisionXR
      @ProtoVisionXR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bingobriano6021 I watched this video on TH-cam’s native Quest app, and it seems they improved the video resolution. I can just make out facial features that you start to see at HD on flat screen resolutions. It’s definitely not the full resolution that Quest 2 is capable of but they bumped it up a tiny bit. Check it out. As for VR/180 or 200 degrees that the K2 delivers, Quest 2 can take an 8k delivery and it looks pretty good. Watch the David Attenborough videos on Oculus TV or Soda Island videos on Quill and you’ll see the Quest 2 is pretty crisp. The Adam Savage videos I think were done on K1 and they look OK. Quest 2 actually has pretty high resolution display compared to the competition which is remarkable considering the price. The main problem is that there are very few cameras that can take advantage of that full resolution. And if they can it is very costly. 12k is what I imagine FHD for VR to be. For that Oculus needs to bump up the resolution limits past 8k on deliverables which they should be able to do but I imagine they had concerns regarding storage.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I just saw this comment. But this video has a Oculus TV version! Check description. Oculus TV has 8K H265 pass tho - my Oculus TV channel has that features. Watch my Oculus TV tutorial. You can cache high quality and download this video directly from Oculus into your Quest 2 and watch in 8K 60fps! That is how you should see this video. The TH-cam VR version is for ppl don’t have Quest 2 or use Pico Neo 3.

    Great video... the FM DUO seems nice and sharp! But the izugar lenses still make a more realistic image. That being said as someone with a K2pro, I feel focus is an issue for me and the FM DUO does seem to solve that. Basically, I'd love if the K2 pro had a hack to shoot 8k in each eye!

      FM DUO does solve the focus issues. So new production of K2 Pro solve the focus issue I have one of those for jobs for Oculus Venues - FM DUO lens connect to a laptop and use software assist focus so you can get very accurate focus. Fisheye is really hard to focus - using a laptop you can blow up and zoom in focus. The lens has very good focus ring. But CA is still a big issue.

It looks great on Oculus TV. I know you made a video about max quality settings for Oculus Media Studio back in Aug, however you only mentioned the VR 360 FFMPEG code you use (for 5760x5760 resolution), and Eric Cheng's cheat sheet only currently gives 5.7K for VR180.
