    In this lesson, we will learn what the pythagorean theorem is and how to calculate the sides of a right triangle using Pythagoras Theorem. The Pythagorean theorem formula is used to find any side of a right triangle given the lengths of the other two sides. The pythagorean theorem is used in many subjects and forms the basis for trigonometry, as the sine and cosine functions are projections on the unit circle and can be found by calculating using the Pythagorean theorem.

    My trig class were allowed to have one "cheat sheet" of hand written formulae, no reduced photocopies. Everyone spent hours writing every formula (which was the instructor's intent). I used one index card with, "c^2 = a^2 + b^2", which made the instructor pause and give me a smile. I only earned the second highest score. We were both pleased.

    Einstein is prominently mentioned here. However, when it comes to the Pythagorean Theorem the "great brain" that I first think of from childhood is the Scarecrow of "The Wizard of Oz." He formerly had "no brains," only straw was in his head, but once he was endowed with brains by the Great Oz himself he received a diploma, an honorary PhD in "Thinkology." To prove his new found brain power the Scarecrow thought he would recite the Pythagorean Theorem as follows:
    "The sum of the square ROOT of ANY TWO sides of an ISOSCELES triangle is equal to the square ROOT of the REMAINING side." That is certainly different from the above lesson, ha ha!
    I don't know if the script writers intended to make these goofs or just didn't know any better, but I didn't know that then. And I doubt any math students (or most adults) would have known about sarcasm if that was the case. Sounded good to me then! After all, he had a fresh doctorate degree! Good thing I wasn't taking any notes and use the Scarecrow as a math lesson model. Anyway, I just can't get the Scarecrow out of mind re this theorem!

    One thing I always struggled with in school was they would give the formulas and I would ask why the formula works They would just tell me it does and then I didn't need to worry about why. It is one of the biggest struggles I have had learning. Once I have the why it comes together easily.

    lol Jason, I was watching some of your older Algebra videos from way back that I purchased and its amazing, its like two different people, you are alot more quiet in your manner back then, you are much more outgoing in these videos. What I really enjoy from your teaching method is that you go and show how the theories are applied in other manners like in this example taking the square and showing how its actually the area of an actual square! Neat little things like this is what seperates you from the other education videos on here.

    What does it mean that space and time is dead in black holes?

    • @MathAndScience
      @MathAndScience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it means that the curvature of space and time are so high that our theories break down. So we don’t know exactly what happens at the singularity inside a black hole. When I say our theories break down what I mean is they start calculating infinity for everything which we know can’t be right.

    The Pythagorean Theorem is wrong (it doesn't preserve integer count).
    7 = 3 + 4
    7^2 = 49 = 3^2 + 4^2 + 2(3)(4)
    So are vectors, since they omit the interaction term 2(3)(4) and the PT can only be represented by "imaginary" numbers.
    5 = 3 + 4i
    5* = 3 - 4i
    5*5 = "25" = 3^2 + 4^2, where 5 and 5* are imaginary numbers, but the expression does NOT preserve count.
    7^2 = 5*5 + 24 = 25 = 24 = 49
    (This is a consequence of Fermat's Last Theorem including the case n=2)
    Proof of Fermat's Last Theorem for Village Idiots
    Let a,b,c,n be positive whole numbers where n > 1
    Preliminary notes
    ------------------------------------------
    Note: Subtraction is only defined for a - b if b a then c = a - |b| -> c < 0, but a + |b| = c so all elements are again positive for proof of Fermat's theorem (including case n=2) Pythagoras had quite an imagination...
    i = sqr(-1)
    i^2 = sqr(-1)sqr(-1)=sqr(-1*-1)=sqr(1^2)=1 = |sqr(i)^2|=sqr(|i^2|)
    psi = 1+i
    psipsi* = 1^2 + i^2 = 1^2 + 1 (logs are unequal)
    ----------------------------------------------------
    Let c = a + b a, b, and c are defined as sums of positive unit integers.
    Then:
    c^n = (a+b)^n = a^n + b^n + rem(a,b,n) by Binomial Expansion (Google it)
    c^n = a^n + b^n iff rem(a,b,n)=0
    But rem(a,b,n) > 0 for all a,b,n
    Therefore c^n a^n + b^n
    QED
    "Spacetime" is NOT a vector; only god can be at different positions at the same time (head and tail of vector, invariant in translation and rotation).
    x=vt
    x/t = v(t/t) = v(1_t); 1_t = log_t(t) defined as "One to the base t", and depends on t. (x,t) is nonsense, since both x and t are positive definite if expressed in the real number system. 1_t is a "clock tick" in the single "vector" direction x.
    A single circle cannot have both a radius and a circumference. (Trust me... :)
