About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on TH-cam videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

We call it barn sour. After being out from the pig port for months, then penned up for four days after being under open skys, they were just happy to be out of the port and were expressing themselves. Being big newbies, you just to their expression of joy and misinturpetted as aggression. Take any barn animal that was being use to being out doors and coop them up for awhile. Your calm saddle horses will gallop, kick out and buck, cows will do the same and as you have seen, so will pigs. Aggressive pigs will charge at you like a bowling ball and knock you down like a ten pin. The Bacon Brothers, not once show any signs of aggression towards you. You raised some strong but gentle pigs.
yeah, city people haha but nice hogs
Yes what he said. They were just being playful and exploring.
Yep. That’s exactly what happened. It’s kind of like kids when they’re stuck inside for a long time. When they finally get to go outside on a nice day, they go a little wild. 🤷🏼♀️. They were having fun, burning off some energy. It was all good until they got close to the busy road. Then it got dangerous for everyone.
it's all fun and games until a fedex truck hits your pigs. Lol
@@SowtheLand yes,. I also think that was the most trafiic I've seen going by your home in all the videos put together. And yes the FedEx truck was caught in video. The pigs seem to had a plan. They turned your quiet 1.5 acres vlog into a 15 minutes action film. Thank heaven, everyone survived! Can't wait to see the vlog of you loading them in Justin's trailers.
That would make a GREAT children's book: 'The Bacon Brothers and the Great Escape'. It looked like they had been planning that! :)
Great idea! Probably sell tons of books!
Love it!
Not the worst pig moving events I have ever seen but it was definitely one of the funniest. Thank you for the giggle!
No kidding, I was snort laughing so hard! No one is ever videoing when I have stuff like that happen.
That was the best. I loved it
It was great.I know it shocked y'all. They were free and they liked it.As you raise pigs you will learn to call them when you are with them.pig pig pig works good. Also sloppy table scraps they will go after that bucket.I enjoyed that video very much.you are doing great
Jason's look on his face when the pigs got close to the street was priceless.
i dont know but it looked like they were so happy going out that they got "crazy" ahaha
Over exited is my take
It's like they're enjoying life bcuz they can sense in a few weeks they're wont be none.
It was like they saw the sun shine for the first time lol
You're right. They were having a fun run.
I think you needed more food in the bucket. Maybe leave a trail from and to next time you move them
They had such a ball! Happy pigs!!
They were just happy to be out and they are curious animals, with no constrains why not run around and look at everything. But you have managed them really well... maybe you should get some swine boards to help guide them or put up a fence line that is not charged to help them go where you wanted them to. Your homestead has grown so much this year, I enjoy watching the progress.
swine boards or another name is pig board. Ask the Rhodes. They weren't mad just having fun. so was I watching it. Did get a bit worried when they got closer to the street. Glad it all turned out okay.
Yes, you need swine boards to move them.
Pig Boards are really useful.
They’ve been planning a prison break for weeks 🤪. They could see all the places they wanted to explore, so they had to visit them all.
Awww both pigs were running and jumping like happy dogs 😂 that was cute 🥰
They wanted to gambol in the sunshine and the grass! And they are actually so cute and playful in a uncontrollable way.
Loreen was very brave!
I would say they weren’t hungry enough to follow you so they decided to have a play instead 😂
Jason they just wanted to run and play.
yeah, in the street. Lol
Big animals need big room
Those pigs got the "zoomies", just like cats at 3 am. They LOVE to run. That's all they were doing was having fun. Nothing to be scared of other than them getting onto the road! Great job staying calm and getting them back into safety! Shalom and Blessings STL Family!
The Brothers wanted to run and play! LOL Poor Loraine was so scared. You'll did a great job rounding them up!
They were playing. Kicking up their heels. They will do it again, it was fun for them.
They were happy to be out of the shelter. Y’all did a great job getting them back in. I felt bad for you.
They just seemed excited and playful.
Those are some excited happy pigs you have! Lol!
Not a disaster. No, you took care of it. Well done!
You see where the phrase "hog wild" comes from.
oh that is so funny, "HOG WILD!"
mary moore more like Wild Hog not Hog Wild lol!!!
“Wild Hog” you meant lol!
There is a big difference between charging & wanting to run & play & explore.
I was so proud of Lorraine. She just jumped right in to help when you asked. I remember that she always said they made her nervous. Great job Lorraine
Oh no those naughty pigs maybe build a electric wire lane to lead them to the new pen
I agree a lane would help.
Great idea
A lane is essential. And Greg Judy lays out the perfect setup.
yes they seemed excited to be out like kids, ya know? I was worried about the busy street too. whew dodged that bullet.
those are happy pigs ! they feel good and wanted to romp like puppies released from a kennel is all. but yeah, it's scarey when you have to worry about traffic
WOW!! Piggy zoomies was stress inducing...LOL, ya'll handled that very well.
PIGGY ZOOMIES!!!! LMBO
It was so funny to see them collapse from exhaustion when they were back in the pen and had a bit to eat👍🤣😆
They looked so happy! FREEDOM!
You handled that like a champ. I could tell that was a little emotional for you. Great job brother.
thanks man!
Y'all handled your biggest fear really well!!!
Just a little touch of freedom!!!! I saw a little video about some dairy cows or shut up in Wisconsin for the winter and they let him out and they just go crazy dancing all over the place it reminded me of that!
I know you guys were scared but those pigs were having a blast! They were happy being boy pigs running full tilt. It made me smile actually. Those really are happy pigs. You guys are doing a great job!!!
They were having fun!
Oh Jason when you turned around from getting the gate closed the expression on your face was priceless. I burst out laughing. Thanks for the LOL moment today. You and Lorraine did a great job of corraling the pigs!
Bless your hearts. I wasn’t even there and my anxiety is a mess lol. I’m so proud of you guys though. You didn’t give up or lose your cool, you communicated with each other and made it happen. That’s the way it’s supposed to work when things go wrong. Great team work. Now, once your knees aren’t jello and your hearts stop racing give each other a high 5 and a big hug 🤗!!
The pigs form of dog zoomies. You handled it well.
Lorraine you were so brave and calm and did amazing!!!
You guys handled that well. Nothing more frustrating than when an animal won't go where you try to lead it.
It’s like when my dogs run around the yard in the evening because they just don’t want to come inside!
🐖🐖
Those experiences will make you wiser
🎶Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows!🎵🎶 I know it’s scary, but y’all! Hilarious to look back on.
After being constantly cooped-up and penned-in it seems only natural that the brothers would want some good exercise. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Hang in there guys! It’s all a learning experience! You are doing great!👍👊✊💪❤️
They looked like playful puppies that escape the back yard for the first time.
That's one big pig zoomie if I've ever seen one!
what is a zoomie?
Jason a "zoomie" is just what you saw the pigs doing...my daughter has 3 dogs and where she lives they must be on a leash at all times...the minute they come visit and are let loose in our "fenced in" backyard they go "hog wild" nuts just running back and forth chasing each other doing silly things and the excitement for them is so exhilarating the keep running til they're exhausted. It's very entertaining for us to watch them. ;) but yes that is what a "zoomie" is ;)
@@SowtheLand A zoomie is what cats do in your house at 3am, running around for no apparent reason like they are possessed. :p
They were happy to be back out side, and were just having fun.
They were so happy to be free and out in the open again
lol best episode, guys. Great job getting them back in
🤣🤣 that was intense I’m glad u never stopped filming 👍
Hi.... Jason and Lorraine nice to see you I love watching your video, pig want to run and play ,thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐖🌱🎥👍👍👍
They were so excited to be out they took advantage of the opportunity you gave them to have a fun run! Haha
Lol. It's all part of the game my friend .
A little taste of freedom... maybe they thought you were letting them out to play with them since they seemed very happy? My heart was pounding as much as yours I think. Thank God they got back in. 🙏
Oh lawd brings back my cattle chasing days. Normal pig behavior they saw daylight, freedom. More you chase the more they run. Jason good job keeping your cool. That was smooth trust me lol
Pigs are smart as dogs, maybe smarter. They are having fun. They like to frolick.
They looked happy and confident being out and in their new, big, strong bodies smelling everything and enjoying freedom!
Jason and Lorraine what a humbling moment- I was in tears of joy- I have never seen pigs do a zippty do da- sadly- it was to the expense of your nerves- you both handled the situation like pros- an educational moment- I honestly have to say you guys have given those brothers a beautiful life and soon they will bless your family with their sweet meat- I bet you’ll laugh every time you have that wonderful bacon😅
It looked like "schools out, yay" They were super happy!
That was awesome, an old fashioned pig round-up.
When my pigs get out. I draw a line with some dog food or marshmallows something they like ,back to their ornigal house an just sit an wait. Then when they get in see exactly where they compromise it. They are very smart animals. You can get a board that blocks their eye sight an lead them back in.They love to run, swim, they must have mud for sweet.but other then that just big doggies.
Happy things worked out in your favor. It sort of reminded me dogs getting outside off leash!
The shelter is nice, but they can't see out or do anything in there. I think they were happy to get out and see and do something. They were overly excited for sure.
That was great. The boys were full of piss and vinegar. Glad it all worked out. Stay safe.
How about a couple of cattle panels shaped into a confinement space that you could drag to the next place with them inside.
So scared they were going to run into street. The traffic was moving so fast, so glad you finally were able to corral then back to the shelter.
They looked happy to me. Just running and having fun...happy pigs
OH! MY! GOODNESS!!...they looked like they got a wild hair in there back end and wanted to unleash their energy.
Thank goodness you got them back in their shelter, wishing you all the best, God bless =) and much love .
Bless your hearts. They scared the mess of you. I do agree with other comments. They were just happy to be out again. They’re so sweet to you. That’s why your scratching calmed them. They’re super smart
animals. You’ve done well and gave them a great life. I’m sure the bacon brothers had appreciated it. Blessings always ~Lisa
I’m glad you recorded it but I know I would have lost that camera when it came charging
It looked like when a dog has zoomies lol they seemed really excited!
Great job Jason & Lorraine! I understand your fear and anxiety. Had that happen to me 26 years ago living in Wisconsin. I was washing dishes and looked out the window to see our 2 pigs running down the driveway headed for the busy road we lived on. I ran out so fast and was able to close the gate before they got there! My heart was still racing when my husband got home from work! “How was your day”? Uneventful...😮LOL
I was afraid they would run out on the road too! Glad you got them contained again.
yes, most afraid of that for sure. thanks
You guys did a fantastic job!!!✌🙏
LOL, to funny. Those pigs were happy, happy, happy. Just wanted to run and play. Loraine was so funny. Well done guys.
Wow, that was touch and go for a while. Actually the whole time! But you both kept your cool. Good Job!!!
When you closed that pen, I was thinking THE BROTHERS ain't gonna be taken out of there till D-Day!
They look so happy running around.
They looked like they were enjoying the freedom, what a good time.
Sometimes in the morning when its cooler pigs will get a little rambunctious. Those guys were not hungry and just felt good. In the future let them go without food for a little while before you get ready to move them then you have better control of them. Sometimes when we need to load we will withhold feed for a day and put it in the trailer usually they will go right in.
One thing for sure after almost 50 years of raising hogs is that they have a mind of their own and are hard to predict.
You guys are doing it good job tell Lorraine to just breathe lol handled it like a pro
They were happy and just wanted to run for a little bit. Cute as can be.
They were happy hopping! I think they got excited for fresh grass.
Ok, I'm glad none of you were injured and that the pigs didn't get in the road. All along I've considered them to be the handsomest pigs, but geez, it was a beautiful sight to see them running!
Not to self: Train piglets to a harness.
Tough day for you guys but a true learning experience for the rest of us.
Thank you! 💚🙏
Happy pigs running and playing!
Very happy pigs running!
Never seen pigs run that fast before!. Well done to get the back in
Jason, they hear you say"this will be our last week with them". Phew!
Thanks for sharing an honest look at raising pigs. I will never raise pigs again without a concrete bunker!
You have the funniest, cutest pigs, they have such good personalities
Wow! Crazy day! They were determined to run and play. Suddenly being out in all that grass made them want to enjoy the freedom and kick up their heels a little. Glad you got them back inside safely. Hope it didn't take too long for your hearts to stop racing! Be well!
They seemed excited to me. Looked as if running off some stored energy. Glad you got them back in and away from the street. 😊
SUPERB work keeping the cameras rolling!!!! lolol
Looked like they just wanted to run and have fun. Lorraine you did good too!
that was so fun to watch
hahahaha! That cover shot freaked me out. Look at it! It looks like a stodgy old man, chubby, bent over with shorts on, pulling weeds or something. It even looks like elbows and hands. LOVE that shot!!!
Wow I was afraid of the traffic on the road as well. I am glad it ended well. My North Carolina farmers are my favorites. Especially when I see you all working with each other.
I'm sorry that was so funny they were really having a good time 😂😂Jason you looked like you was out of breath and Loraine 😂😂😂
I saw the title and had to watch! My pigs got out today too...3 of the 4 all because the netting wasn't getting a charge...moved the pig fence and they're all secure again! I thought for sure they'd go straight for the garden but they didn't, thank goodness!
I am still smiling at the pig move. Hey, never a dull moment. 🙂
Whew, glad you were able to corral them. It looked like they were having a great time running. They were faster than I thought they would be.
Glad you got them in the pen. That was scary. peace and love, y'all
looks like they had spring fever and wanted to run and play lol-glad it worked out onemore week
My heart was beatting out of my chest! I thought they were going in the road. Thanks for sharing your night mares also!
They didnt seem aggressive at all!! They were happy and rambunctious 😊 burning energy!! I think these are about the cutest pigs, they have those rounded butts. Going to be nice big hams😁
Oh you poor things. It was obvious how stressed out you both were. I did not know 🐖's could move so dang fast. It was like watching huge dogs play. I'm so thankful that you got them back in the pen. Breath now and try to calm down.😍
