    eBay needs to get their act together. This can easily cause some serious damages for many, many people!

    • @GreyBeard3D

      It gets ebay sales at the cost to the customer or seller. Ebay gets clicks.

      @@GreyBeard3D yes, it's an excellent feature if done correctly. But they cannot mess with quantity differences like this, and have to ensure that the model/serial numbers are exactly the same. A slight alter in either of these can be the difference between a few bucks, and a few thousand bucks.

    Sometimes if you enter the UPC into Ebay, during the listing process it will generate that picture automatically as the first photo if it has a photo in the system earmarked for that UPC. You have to de-select that picture to have your own picture first. I never use the stock pic if it's offered.

  • @marcrodriguez4340

    When you're making your listing sometimes there's a box at the very top that says "autofill with eBay info", or something like that, and often times the autofill info isn't correct. Autofill saves a lot of time, but be very careful with it. You don't see it in your own store, but I think in other places where your listing shows up they'll use their stock photo over your main photo.

    • @palillo2006
      @palillo2006 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yup, this is what happened. I always double check the auto fill because sometimes the product picture is different than what I am listing.

    When I was selling on ebay, buyers would contact me on occasion with ridiculous accusations, a book they purchased from me had all of the pages ripped out, a purse they bought that was brand new and never taken out of its packaging, somehow wound up with cat hair all over the inside! You get to the point where every time someone contacts you about an item, you assume they are trying to scam you!
    The fact that you owned your mistaken accusation speaks volumes about your character Pete! I hope that both you and the buyer were happy with the outcome!

  • @dansanfrisco
    @dansanfrisco 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It sounds like you need to ask your employee who listed this item if they began the listing with "Sell Like Item" off an eBay search from another "SOLD" listing. Titles and item specifics get transferred over into the draft listing (even the image associated with the UPC). You have to make sure you change all the info that was previously entered in that listing by the other seller. For example, change the title, quantity (if selling more than one), price, shipping details and any item specifics that doesn't match and whether you want eBay to use the product image or not that is associated with the UPC number entered (top of page on each listing you can check or uncheck this if UPC number is entered). That would be my guess.

    I had a problem with my buyer he thought he was getting a full Pepsi Twist can from my store, I thought for sure he studied the pictures before he brought it. When he got it he said it empty. I said yeah I sold an empty soda can. So I refunded the money and the shipping cost and he said well do you want the can back? I said no you keep it, he didn't want it so he threw it out. A month later he leaves a - feedback. I wrote to him and I said I refunded the money and did you study the pictures? He claimed he saw one picture with a can standing up. I said I have more then one pictures. So he changed it to positive feedback.
    I can see what eBay is doing. I wondered if they were using the stock photo?
    Yes, I agree on the video games. I found it hard to believe that it was going for over a million dollars. Last June, I heard on the radio that The Legend of Zelda game went for $868,000 and I was like what? Someone had a rare copy that Nintendo released again in 1987 for a short time. There was something different with the seal plastic wrap or something. Original game was released in 1986.

    When I post my ads from a UPC code, it usually pulls the correct product. And when I add additional photos, the scanned photo drops out and keeps all my photos.

    I know what happened: When you piggy back'd off another listing using "sell similar", THAT listing automatically included the stock photo because there is an option the previous seller had. to keep all stock info. THere is an option box you can uncheck after you use sell similar button to prevent this.

    I've had that happen where the UPC/isbn will bring up the product but with slightly different details which must equate to an older model and I upload my photos and delete the old photos but ebay shoehorns in their original lead photo. It happens a lot with books where the big book companies autofill the listing with nonsense that doesn't relate to the book ie list it as a text book/schoolbook when it isn't.

    Yes Pete this happened to me several times, if you choose in the listing "sell similar" EBay will throw up a stock photo into the photos that you upload and if you do not catch it and discard it, that photo it will go up in the listing and be the first photo that people see in your listing.

    The video game inflation has been going on for some time. In black and white, it's very simple. The owner, partner, or share holder buys their own product high, anonymously or through a series of partnered networks, so their money recycles back into their own pocket. Meanwhile, the news coverage does the rest, and the public begin listing and buying their games through the said network, whom take a cut. The buyer loses when the market begin to realize that the intrinsic value was manufactured and was never to do with its rarity.

  • @darklordojeda
    @darklordojeda 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    On eBay it will sometimes do a stock picture and it will also give a description of items when listing in bulk. I've had the same thing happen when selling. So the best thing is to just not allow it to do any automated descriptions at all. I've even had the description change after I list an item. Best trick is to just thoroughly check every single thing.

  • @FoundThingsandFamilyLegacies

    THANK YOU for updating us. eBay has messed up with me and caused me multiple issues as well. They really need to get their systems corrected! I will list a 'buy it now' with NO offers and eBay will change RANDOMLY to best offer of 1/2 of the price about 1/3 of my listings. I get low-ball offers and turn them down and people get P.O.'d with me. I will go in and spend way too much time changing those listings. I am NOT setting up the listing to slowly reduce the price and have had people over my shoulder watching me to verify I am not, yet randomly, this will affect a different cluster or listings easily every 30 days.

  • @MrJTRfilms
    @MrJTRfilms 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Peter,
    I have ran into this issue recently, hard to describe but I will try. When I scan a item and click to add more of ebays search description (make, Model, color) etc, it will change the upc to a different number of a like item. I thought I was crazy, but it happened when I was listing some headphones the other day, it kept selecting a different upc automatically because I was changing the preselected descriptions. The only way around it is to start from scratch and not use Ebays prefilled listings.

  • @rickywilliams2574
    @rickywilliams2574 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Pete I had the same issue with a listing on a DVD I was selling. 3 times after I put in my own wording ebays system had changed the the ad which was crazy and couldn't figure it out. But the system searches for a product and when it finds it, it will use that ad copy. Why I have no idea. But I noticed its been happening more and more. So when I sold it I didn't realize I had 2 different ad copy. Mine and ebays system that it created when it should not. So because of this I ended up with a negative feedback and return plus a refund. The buyer just thought was trying to rip him off. I wasn't but it sure look that. So I'm glad you bright it up because I haven't heard anymore else complain about this but it does happen. Thanks I love Honey she's great. I had my cat Muffin great car I lost him to cancer. I miss him. Thanks.

    Cross-platform incompatibility! Yes, it is a problem. As for the video game market skyrocketing, I have seen the same for pocket watches from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries. In 2019 a common, USA-made railroad-grade pocket watch that sold at auction for around $250.00 is now either a “Buy-it-Now” or has a "Reserve" near or higher than a $1000.00. Good grief, these watches were cranked out by the millions and now they've appreciated that much? If so, I might have a bridge for sale in the Arizona desert.

      Yeah it's the same way with those Disney vhs tapes, nobody actually pays big money for them but you see sold listings for $50,000. I think they have a buddy "buy" for that price just so it shows in the solds then they can put it up for less money and maybe sucker someone in to actually buy for way more than they're worth.

People even do that with credit cards too but they call it Charge Backs. I always stood by PayPal and always loved it but as a buyer, it is in the buyers favor. As a seller, it sucks cause a buyer can always get a refund and then the seller always has to try and het their money back and sometimes it ends badly for a seller.

    It is eBay's Fault because there is a setting that says.. something about eBay Autofill information... sadly this also includes them adding additional photos which you don't even notice.. The ONLY way to stop this is to uncheck the auto fill option. Also ALWAYS preview your listing in full before you submit. I know it will take up a few3 more mins of time, but better then running into this issue again. Ohh and eBay gets there stuff from other people who sold the item on eBay... so somewhere along the line a seller mis-typed in the UPC or else uploaded an incorrect stock photo...

    Hi Pete this is my take on it and I believe it is done because when you click product information ebay assume if you are listing new that all the information is correct (Ebay do change that URL code to suit) and why I always check product information. Ebay are trying to get more products in google search like amazon and the linked URL code google redirects you to with ebay, ebay like to use stock photos as this is the stored URL code that ranks that listing up and in the search results give ebay a better boost lift each time its sold. Hope that helps

    I use to collect and it sickens me what the Retro game market has become. It was fun 10-15 years ago when nobody cared, I knew Wata and those game grading companies were scams for years. Glad someone outted them finally!

    It's a multi SKU, meaning the SKU's are interConnected. Where the manufacturer might of had a black Friday speciak promo and gave 2. Then after the holidays, they went back to just one brush. I think lies with the manufacturer and not ebay.

    When you choose an item that has pre-filled data, you need to delete the stock photo, and add your own.

    The UPC in your listing is wrong (doesn't match the box). Perhaps you entered it in correctly before selecting the catalog product which then updated it to the 2-pack set.

    Pete did you take a photo of the product or did you get the pic off the internet? An internet pic may have been a pic of a different upc coded product.

    Holy Crap! We just had this happen to us and I thought it was a scam! It was with a brand new Ford coil pack. We sold it to a new eBayer and he then messaged us mad saying that the ad had shown it was a pair!

    I see the card market doing the same thing. People are collecting as an investment when the cards themselves hold zero value. Scarcity drives some of the prices but grading as well. Guys sending in 25 of the same card to get graded is just insane. Once investors realize gains have flattened you’ll see a sell off and many will be stuck with a bunch of cards that are really hard to display.

    I expect the vendor changed the deal but kept the same UPC - so at one time you would have got 2x brushes - then later changed to a single brush - Ebay collected the image when it first came out with the 2x bushes and have not updated. Like you say a flaw in the Ebay process.

    Does this maybe have to do with eBay’s “catalog”?

  • @johnnicholson5797
    @johnnicholson5797 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have seen this many times. A Seller has listed 2 x XYZ and put in the UPC and the ebay system was showing that picture from the 2 x XYZ when I was selling 1 x XYZ with the same UPC. Back then it would come up in the see more of this item at the top and when you went in it did not show my picture but the 2x picture unless you went in to the "see details" you do not get to see only the title and pictures from the 1x listing. ebay was too lazy to make the catalogue and just wrote code to do it auto - obviously code is only as good as the coder's ability and knowledge of how ebay works.

    I know when you list, they sometimes have stock photo & a check box for automatically uploading product specifications. I remove both because they aren’t always correct.
