It is not posssible to substistute the Suez canal or the Panama canal with a possible new canal in Thailand. The new canal can only substgitute the Malacka Strait or take a part of its traffic. But it is not capable of taking more than a small portion of this traffic and the gain in transit time is negligible. Further in the case of war the new canal does not bring any increased safety. If built it is a formidable stupidity.
