I don’t agree with Aidan Pierce being on the list. I thought WD1 is the best game by a mile in the franchise. 2 was good and probably better gameplay wise but the first story was more enjoyable for me.
It was the worst 'catchphrase' it could be. Took me right out of the game. It needed at least 50% more ridiculousness to be believable. Stub your toe, and yell "Cu.....antakerous krispy kremes!" Yeah, sounds worse than crispy critters. But you immediately think "oh... that guy has kids or is used to being around them, he's censoring himself outta habit."

@@billysavastano119 Thats one hell of a cope, ive finished the game and she is utterly unsufferable. Dialogue is horrendous and game play is extremely repetive and not even that fun the first couple of minutes. Sucks to suck
Same with dubbed Japanese games. English dubs have a tendency to sound drawn-out and whiney -- that's because English is a quicker language (more info transfer per second, as I call it).
@@zJoriz I agree and also if i have the choice, I always prefer the japanese dub, it feels way more immersive for me to play a game set in japan and hear the japanese voiceovers, i also played a plague tale innocence in french and metro exodus in russian, shame sometimes the lip sync doesn't feel natural but still worth it
I put myself in the eyes of the protagonist and boiled it down to “being a soldier doesn’t prepare you for THIS”. There a lot of scientific concepts that the protagonist doesn’t understand, which is absolutely fine. I think it’s cool that he asks questions throughout the game and at least tries to. It’s a character with uncommon quirks (weird catchphrase) that is coming to terms that ai actually fully taking over while also trying to genuinely understand the science of how it works. Idk it really didn’t bother me. I mean how would any normal person react to that? Yea we don’t have flying islands or fully ai robots walking around but going from modern life to apocalyptic take over in moments; I’m not surprised the protagonist isnt as calm and collected as people expected. It almost seems weird to expect that. Example: “Oh look, the world is on fire, everyone is dead, and I’m fighting mechs…anyways time to take out the trash and mow my lawn”. Idk what people were expecting. I think if people want to say he wasn’t well written is fair. He isn’t super compelling. But it wasn’t like it was annoying. It didn’t take me out of the game or break immersion.
I liked Aiden as a protagonist, and if you disliked his character that's fine, but you really misinterpreted his character according to your description of him. Deacon from days gone, got similar criticisms about his character, the no nonsense, sometimes an asshole type of characters don't get much love in general. Just a theory, if you take away Ellie from Joel, or Atreus from Kratos, but especially Joel, what type of character would he be?
Honorable mention: main character from Hogwarts Legacy. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the game but there’s only so many times I can hear “oooohahaha A Merlin Trial” before my ears bleed. And the VAs they got delivered every line in the most monotone voice possible
im playing it with my mom rn because she loves harry potter stuff but damn the character is so annoying always with those stupid voice lines its genuinly bothering me
Rufus is the perfect example of an annoying protagonist done right because he feel natural and not forced and artificial like most protagonist are. He's surprisingly well memorable in the good twisted way and literally the entire game calls him out for being a jerk and i enjoy every moment of it and You know the franchise is great when it makes you actually miss someone you hate or dislike. Whether you like it or not, It's kinda hard to enjoy Dephonia without Rufus in it.
Yeah, I really don't understand why is he on the list. He is a self centered asshole, but he's just that kind of character and honestly he's a rather refreshing protagonist. But I guess not everyone can enjoy Deponia's dark humor.
Rufus is horrible and single handedly killed the point & click revival of the 2010's. ...Ok, that may be hyperbole, but I know a lot of P&C enthousiasts who hate Deponia because of Rufus. They tried to emulate Guybrush Threepwood, but they left out everything that made him lovable.
I also liked Rufus. He was annoying to the other characters but I didn't find him annoying to play and hear. I think he's more of a either you like him or you hate him kind of character. I am not surprised he is on this list because everyone is entitled to their opinion but that high? Bland, I can't remember his name, from Ubisoft and the chick from Forspoken were so, so much worst in a kind of universal way, in my opinion.
Aiden Pearce is underrated in my opinion. He talk all about how he want to protect everyone, but in the end all he wanted is revenge and wrongful justice. Like a bad version of batman in a way. Like you said underwritten character.
i never had a problem with atomic heart at all, tbf i played in russian, but idk, he was not annoying really. Awesome game btw, and fantastic soundtrack
What a relief, I thought my brother and I were the only people left on the planet that actually liked Sergey (Aside from him being a dick to bots, we found him to be genuinely entertaining)
Why do developers think a strong female protagonist means she has to be a sarcastic and rude loner. Frey from Forspoken was just awful, this video glosses over it, but she was just unnecessarily mean to everyone. The banter between her and Cuff actually had me rooting for the antagonist.
They one-sided her pretty bad. Just plain stereotype like he said in the video. You could see what they wanted but yea … it was giving men writing for women characters. I actually liked the banter between them. It added to the quietness of the world you explore and I chuckled a few times but he’s not wrong about how wrong they did her and all those VAs.
@@billysavastano119brother, do you read at all? The guy literally mentioned that he dislikes like she is always sarcastic to everyone. He literally mentioned sarcasm. I don’t know why you’re saying it as if he didn’t notice that.
The way that guy reacted to things were jarring. What was his name again? Vince St. Vince or some crap? The bizarre mood swings and delivery of his lines, like the VA wasn't given good direction. It makes Vincent St. Vince seem kinda mental.
All characters in Watch Dogs 2 are clearly much more unbearable than Aidan Pierce, who, on the contrary, is one of the greatest characters in gaming history. And how can you make a list like that without mentioning the most repulsive protagonist ever: Deacon St. John from Days Gone?!
Poor Aiden Pierce, I feel like he did stand the test of time. He made playing Watchdogs Legion so much better for me, I much preferred playing through Legion as Aiden Pierce than just randos off the street
I absolutely hated how uncaring Watch Dogs 2 is. Aiden Pierce is a character that I've seen so many people bring up just to study his character psychology. He is a well written character but the story didn't try to make it too obvious!! I think legion did a better job showing his inner struggles!! Watch Dogs 2's Marcus kinda turned me off. There should be something serious about the plot if they want the audience to care for them. There's no base for the friendship between Marcus and his gang. To be fair, they kinda annoyed me at times!!
I liked Aiden, and I liked Metallia. I liked the Watch Dogs 1st and 2nd game's protags, and I liked The Witch and The Hundred Knight. I don't think they are bad, I cared for them despite their issues. Aidens a dark character, a Anti Hero or VIGILANTE. While Metallia is literally a SWAMP WITCH and an outcast of society, including other Witches. She doesn't want to be like anyone else or liked at all at the start. She wants to be known as terrifying and powerful, which changes after serious story points later, so she gets to change as a person, character growth. As for Emil, even he can't deny he was pathetic at the start and most earlier parts of his game. Not that he would, he literally is the exact opposite of Ratatosker. Meek, weak, and plain as day a child. Ratatosker is a being who is not nice but isn't pure evil. They are grating in everyway, but again they grow and change. Emil literally has to become an adult and take charge of his life, while Ratatosker becomes more of a person who actually cares about others including his other self Emil. I feel upset by this video for two reasons, he targeted characters I liked, and he introduced characters to me that were the most annoying and disgusting crap I have ever and never wanted to know.
Falcon finally got the point of Sergey’s character at the end; 4:25. He was written to be exactly that, and in that exact way according to the game’s creator.
I don't see Emil as annoying, personally. While it starts as him being very meek and weak-willed, he grows into his role as a protagonist, which makes sense; his perception of himself was that he was just a village boy who was consistently belittled. When you compare him to Lloyd Irving, who is literally a dual-wielding swordmaster even though he never stepped outside his village, he just proves that not every hero is born with the required mindset and skills. It made a nice change from other heroes of Tales of who are just weirdly good at fighting DESPITE never being in an actual battle before.
Atomic Heart is meant to be played in Russian. It has all the right jokes, references and curses. Translation doesn't convey the idea, messages and humor as I hoped it would.
i think the problem w Aiden isnt that hes a bad character, he just has a bad story. like his achetype could work (and does work in peoples head) but the games plot isnt well planned and overall not interested in actually giving him depth, it was more interested in doing a noir story that didnt have space for too many character moments for aiden or really doing something with the hacking stuff.
8:41 side note. dose anyone else look at gaming adds of guys playing games in movies etc. and be like... Why TF are you mashing so many buttons... your literally just aiming a sniper in halo like come on. its L2 R2 and left joystick and right joystick... Only time you would be mashing L1 & R1 when playing a game with or against someone is when you don't know wtf to do and those 2 buttons normally do like A+B or Y+X moves you know... (And yes I know I mixed Xbox & PS you write the PS symbols with out spelling them out)
I think Aiden's problem is also in large part that there are simply better characters in the game. Jordi is still memorable years later while I could not for the life of me remember even one of Aiden's lines.
I'd like to defend Rufus: it is a German game and you have to have that 'infamouse' german humor nobody is talking about. If so Rufus is one of the most beloved charakters in German video game history. But almost all of his jokes are either insiders from other Deadalic Games OR only work in German 😬 greetings from Germany
Jep i agree Rufus works way better in german and the fact that he is a selfobsessed looser is the entier point, everyone in the game that doesn't start the game off in a coma knows this (end even she doesn't take long to figuring it out).
The protagonist of " A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead " is really annoying. The protagonist is really clumsy like you are trying to run away from the monster but your leg gets stuck on tree trunk, the protagonist has asthma so you need the inhaler but gets lost and when you use it the monster can hear you so it kills you.
Based on the criteria in this video, Geralt Of Rivia probably *should* be an annoying protagonist. He makes quips, he's snarky, sarcastic, never takes anything seriously, etc. But for some magical reason it just works, and he's one of the greatest video game protagonists of all time.
I honestly believe that the majority of the problems Deacon faces in Days Gone could have been avoided entirely if he wasn't so unbearably terrible. I loved the game, but it felt like every time Deacon opened his mouth it was just so he could make things worse or make the current objective harder for himself.
I say this with all due respect, but I have to disagree with the judgment on Aiden Pearce. Sure, he is quite stiff in terms of character development and personality, but can we blame him? He is a guy who has little things to his name other than his sister and nephew. Fairly recently, he lost his niece in an accident that was meant for him, he is forced to take on gangs of Chicago, save his sister, protect his nephew, and juggle his (pretty much chosen) responsibilities as a vigilante to restore order. He does not have much room to simply open his heart and soul to anybody and the closest he has is Clara, but she revealed her darkest secret to him and she later… well it’s sad to say. I’m sorry I dragged on, but I just say this, he may be lacking as one of those typical protagonists who have that productive character, but he’s got badassery and he is straight to the point.
Cody and Mary from It Takes Two should be on this list. It's a great game, but oh my god, my primary take away by the time I finished was that these two people should not be together. They spend 2/3 of the game just being total passive aggressively mean to each other, then suddenly get reconnected at the end? Sorry, don't buy it. This could of been one of the GOATS if they'd been bold enough to have the character learn that, no, actually, they shouldn't be together.
I have to disagree with the Watch Dogs one. I would have much rather put Marcus from Watch Dogs 2 on this list or any character from Watch Dogs 3. Aiden was not annoying.
These videos are terribly edited sometimes. They literally end the Aiden Pierce section with a stretch of him just walking in gameplay. Nothing about his character, no dialogue. Just boring gameplay
That segment was one long string of clips, references and words I didn't get. English isn't my first language so when I don't get something in one sentence, I just listen for the next sentence to give me the context I need or the clip to clarify things. But when every other sentence contains a word or reference I don't understand, the whole thing continually wooshes over my head and I just skip to the next chapter ^_^;

As an asshole that sits on a couch and doesn't speak to people I am deeply offended
That's OK at least now you got the potential to be as awesome as Aiden, who doesn't deserve to be on this list imho.
How you dare to put Aiden in this list mate
Agreed. He fit well with the setting of the game. In a dark, dystopian Metropolis ran by the mob where you’re always being watched and your actions cause your niece to be killed and the rest of your family targeted, you aren’t exactly going to be a happy go lucky guy.
Real. I loved Aiden.
Its suffering listing to Aiden.
He’s cringe af dude. 😂
He's not annoying, he's just boring.
Putting Aiden on this list is wild.
Bravo on finding a way to squeeze your Peter Griffin impression into a video. Spot on, btw.
I don’t agree with Aidan Pierce being on the list. I thought WD1 is the best game by a mile in the franchise. 2 was good and probably better gameplay wise but the first story was more enjoyable for me.
"Hey Lois...crispy critters!"
Hey
It was the worst 'catchphrase' it could be. Took me right out of the game. It needed at least 50% more ridiculousness to be believable. Stub your toe, and yell "Cu.....antakerous krispy kremes!"
Yeah, sounds worse than crispy critters. But you immediately think "oh... that guy has kids or is used to being around them, he's censoring himself outta habit."
@Volyren well if you actually played the game that catch phrase makes sense and carries an insurmountable amount of weight towards the story.
@@Capt.Slappy No, I played the game. I barely remember the story. Just that I'll never not smack the rump of a coke machine again. She's been naughty. My point was, it tonally doesn't work. He's cursing every other line, yet uses a Ned Flanders-ism as his go-to 'F a duck.'.
Actual catchphrase in Russian was “yebuchie pierogi” - “fucking pierogis”. It is common saying in Russian actually. Pity, they didn’t translate it properly.
The Aiden hate is WILD, the whole point of him being "emo" is that he's depressed because he got his neice killed and is still ruining his families lives, like?? Do you guys not remember the story? He's also not trying to be cool he's literally actively monitored everywhere he goes and is a high end hacker, he has to stay covert and hide his face as much as possible, putting him on this list is confusing af. I agree alot of Ubisoft games these days are copy and paste same goes for protagonists but this made no sense.
How is that chick from Forspoken not at number 1 or higher in the list? Worst main character ever.
Obviously yall only played the demo, or watched livestreams. This video also only shows demo gameplay
tbf her character gets better later, unlike some other characters that are still obnoxious from start to finish
@@billysavastano119 Thats one hell of a cope, ive finished the game and she is utterly unsufferable. Dialogue is horrendous and game play is extremely repetive and not even that fun the first couple of minutes. Sucks to suck

Yeah and she is somehow! under aiden who is simply a depressed guy who is simply suffering from guilt!
that family guy impression was surprisingly great! good vid chaps!
Glad you enjoyed it
I won’t tolerate this Aiden slander. He was good, and I always enjoyed seeing him in every watch dogs game
Seth MacFarlane would be proud.
Character bickers with their sentient hand is basically the entire plot of Parasyte
That was done well though.

Fun fact if you change atomic heart language to russian the protagonist becomes way less annoying, his ranting is way funnier in russian
Exactly, Russian dub (native language for me) not annoying at all 😂
I liked Aiden as a protagonist, and if you disliked his character that's fine, but you really misinterpreted his character according to your description of him.
Deacon from days gone, got similar criticisms about his character, the no nonsense, sometimes an asshole type of characters don't get much love in general.
Just a theory, if you take away Ellie from Joel, or Atreus from Kratos, but especially Joel, what type of character would he be?
"Aww geez Lois, this is more intense than that time I met Sander Cohen."
Family Guy team, PLEASE make this cutaway gag a real thing, I need to see it!
Honorable mention: main character from Hogwarts Legacy. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the game but there’s only so many times I can hear “oooohahaha A Merlin Trial” before my ears bleed. And the VAs they got delivered every line in the most monotone voice possible
I just stopped playing the game because of this. My character voice sounds like he is trapped in a tin can
im playing it with my mom rn because she loves harry potter stuff but damn the character is so annoying always with those stupid voice lines its genuinly bothering me
That peter's voice had me rolling
Aiden Pierce? What?
He didn't just put Aiden on this list
I dont like aiden from dying light 2 that much.Wouldnt say i hate him but i do find some conversations annoying with him
Aiden was good and people complained so they removed main character😂
@WolfpackDan859 I think you misunderstood me, I'm talking about Aiden pierce from watch dogs, well it's my fault too, I didn't mention his full name
@animeshprakash5529 well shet.i dont like him either but dont find him annoying the least
@@WolfpackDan859 yeah I get that he's not the greatest ever, but given his circumstances, most people wouldn't be much better
"I swear to god, I SWEAR to GOD, I remember, that Guy is an A$$hole!!"
Broke me man. How can a falcon be so funny. Bird of the Year 🤣🤣🤣.
atomic heart protag wasnt bad , aiden pierce was great.
Falcon I gotta say that putting Aiden on this list is a bad take
Rufus is the perfect example of an annoying protagonist done right because he feel natural and not forced and artificial like most protagonist are.
He's surprisingly well memorable in the good twisted way and literally the entire game calls him out for being a jerk and i enjoy every moment of it
and You know the franchise is great when it makes you actually miss someone you hate or dislike.
Whether you like it or not, It's kinda hard to enjoy Dephonia without Rufus in it.
Yea agree.
Personally I even think he is not annoying at all and him beeing on this list actually confused me.
I hate Rufus so much. Once I completed Deponia I saw the sequels and thought "there's no way I can put up with him through another 3 games. I'm out"
I also liked Rufus.
I feel like I'm the protagonist that annoys everyone 😅
😅
Sorry to say that, but you're actually an NPC. I'm the protagonist, actually.
@@GreenHellTubeplot twist you’re the villain I’m the hero
i never had a problem with atomic heart at all, tbf i played in russian, but idk, he was not annoying really. Awesome game btw, and fantastic soundtrack
What a relief, I thought my brother and I were the only people left on the planet that actually liked Sergey (Aside from him being a dick to bots, we found him to be genuinely entertaining)
Also Nora's theme rules so much
Personally, I think he talked WAY too much.
They better not put Jason Brody on this list
Okay phew we’re all good!
Oh yeah, that annoying prick...
His writing felt awkward even though you can understand the narrative
He should’ve been on this list
Why do developers think a strong female protagonist means she has to be a sarcastic and rude loner. Frey from Forspoken was just awful, this video glosses over it, but she was just unnecessarily mean to everyone. The banter between her and Cuff actually had me rooting for the antagonist.
She's 21 in the lore but she's obviously like 15 in the writers' heads.
Its called sarcasm, look it up! And if yall played full game yall would have known she isnt mean to all people
They one-sided her pretty bad.
Holy Batman that impression

I like awkward protagonist when done purposely like DAYS GONE. More normal awkward people please.
The way that guy reacted to things were jarring. What was his name again? Vince St. Vince or some crap?
The bizarre mood swings and delivery of his lines, like the VA wasn't given good direction. It makes Vincent St. Vince seem kinda mental.
@@schottischfuranfanger6724Deacon St. John
All characters in Watch Dogs 2 are clearly much more unbearable than Aidan Pierce, who, on the contrary, is one of the greatest characters in gaming history. And how can you make a list like that without mentioning the most repulsive protagonist ever: Deacon St. John from Days Gone?!
I'll never forget my Granddad's last words to me just before he died. "Are you still holding the ladder?"
i do not appreciate the aiden pierce slander he has every right to be emo and serious
Falcon most definitely doesn’t get paid enough to play Awakening 9 and Forsaken….
Poor Aiden Pierce, I feel like he did stand the test of time. He made playing Watchdogs Legion so much better for me, I much preferred playing through Legion as Aiden Pierce than just randos off the street
I'm beginning to think that Falcon is the best narrator in the gaming world! He's utterly hilarious
What's wrong with uncles, I'm an uncle. I'm an uncle of 2 what's wrong with that😭
I absolutely hated how uncaring Watch Dogs 2 is.
Falcon at next week’s staff meeting when the Urkel reference is brought up like “did I do thaaat?”
Aiden is cool, he doesn't appeal too much but annoying? That's too much.
I won't accept any Aiden and Connor slander, people need to acknowledge that not every character has to be a comedian
OMG, Falcon! Hiiiiiii.
But for real, your guy's videos always give my day a boost
Glad to hear it!
Thanks for watching
I feel upset by this video for two reasons, he targeted characters I liked, and he introduced characters to me that were the most annoying and disgusting crap I have ever and never wanted to know.
i will not tolerate Aiden slander
Falcon finally got the point of Sergey’s character at the end; 4:25. He was written to be exactly that, and in that exact way according to the game’s creator.
Aiden fits in watch dogs...he matches the story🔥
If i want to give Aiden a hug, but punch Marcus right in the freaking face, you know who the bad protagonist is...
"Di' I do tha..?" *laughter*
Falcon Im very pleasently surprised by how great of a Petah impression that was. You gotta do more. That was fucking great
10:57 : ouch, self damage will not be tolerated
Exactly, the Russian VAs are stellar in performance, too.
Yep. Jokes and voice acting are much better in Russian. No “crispy critters” and all that shit.
Eeh, still a cringe fest, imo.
How can it be normal nowadays to play russian games in russian?
Yeah I wish it was translated better to English.
So nice to see all the love for Aiden in the comments!
i think the problem w Aiden isnt that hes a bad character, he just has a bad story. like his achetype could work (and does work in peoples head) but the games plot isnt well planned and overall not interested in actually giving him depth, it was more interested in doing a noir story that didnt have space for too many character moments for aiden or really doing something with the hacking stuff.
Facts exactly 💯
Falcon makes 90s reference and says Did I do that?
“Bubsy, Bubsy, Bubsy, Bubsy Bobcat!” That was one of my favorite game intros as a kid.
Who tf has a child in a world where noise kills people and u constantly have to move smh
And he was so dang annoying too. I ended up playing through Day's Gone in spite of the fact that "Deacon St. Johns" was the protagonist.
Somehow, someway, Jason Brody of Far Cry 3 got skipped here.
All Far cry protagonists
He wasn’t that bad
He might be 'boring' to some but he is literal opposite of annoying he barely speaks outside of cutscenes
Crazy that Atomic Heart had Jensen Ackles for the marketing but couldn't get him to voice Sergei
First L by Falcon Aiden Pierce a good character
To this day I will exclaim "crispy criters" at the most minor inconviniences.
12:25 talks about censoring bad language, proceeds to show an unrelated clip. Nice job.
These videos are terribly edited sometimes. They literally end the Aiden Pierce section with a stretch of him just walking in gameplay. Nothing about his character, no dialogue. Just boring gameplay
That segment was one long string of clips, references and words I didn't get.
English isn't my first language so when I don't get something in one sentence, I just listen for the next sentence to give me the context I need or the clip to clarify things. But when every other sentence contains a word or reference I don't understand, the whole thing continually wooshes over my head and I just skip to the next chapter ^_^;
@@KingRynoD.LeonhartTMB There was a couple weeks not long ago, where every vid had such terrible edit, that I just couldn't belive. Those clips are masterpiece of editing compared to those that I remember ;P They were SO random, sometimes not even showing 1 thing that was talked about. It was even more bizzare, because most of the vid was perfectly fine and then at the end of each section a MASSIVE wtf. It didn't chage my opinion about this channel at all, but god damn I am curious how could this happen.
@@chrisp9824 Glad for you it didn’t change your opinion of the channel. I’ve actually just decided I’m done and unsubbed for multiple reasons beyond just this. Keep having fun ;)
I'm sick of them basically rehashing the same videos over and over again and again under a slightly different title.
I'm a middle aged uncle who wears leather. Why do you make me sad, falcon when all I wanted was to watch a gameranx video?! You're a bad bird!! 😂😂
Damn falcon did Aiden Pierce so dirty 😂 violated my boy.
Never played it but damn the living room in that YIIK game sure looks similar to the Full House living room set!
Disagree about Aiden Pearce from Watchdogs. I like his dialogue and delivery, he is especially good in WD’s Legion.
Can we talk about that zoom into the door? I never thought about what the white background looked like close up, but now I know it looks like a ceiling. Well done and artistic
9:01 nahhh leave my guy alone lol
Right? Aiden fell victim to the "I gotta hate this character because others told me to" thing.
