This is an amazing song with such a heartfelt and powerful message. I was thinking how it is relevant to what is going on in the world today. The video was pretty well received in its day.

Compared to their other hits this one takes a little more time to appreciate. But musically it's a lot more ambitious. Obviously it's Beatles influenced; a homage. And I think they do a great job with it.

Their Beatles moment. I knew the song and the visuals were so obviously inspired by The Beatles, but I've never seen that Paul McCartney clip. I think Tears for Fears are great, but it's a testament to the wit and charisma of McCartney that his clip was my favorite part of this reaction ;)

I'm kinda embarrassed that I didn't make the Beatle connection. Maybe it's because this isn't my favorite song from them, although I do enjoy it. Paul McCartney was pretty cool about it, which was nice to see. I liked the added clip of him talking about it and wouldn't mind if you guys did that more often. 🤓 As always, I appreciate the honest reaction! Much love from Oregon! ❤

It's as if the Beatles had access to computers and could actually sing. Whoever recommended this song to y'all needs to be commended. It might be hard to comprehend but, this is one of the bestest pop songs ever composed. EVER. I mean... I can't even begin to explain why this is an all-time masterpiece because the likes of it may never happen again. Yes. It's that good. Even if you can't quite believe it right now.

Since this is such a heavily Beatles-inspired song, I guess by the guys' reactions that they are not really into The Beatles or that sound? Nothing wrong with that, it just made me think that whenever I hear a Beatles-esque song I don't think "What a ripoff", I think "Sounds like The Beatles -- cool!"

Beatles-esque can be a lot of things depending on what era it refers to. And as Paul says, this is Summer of Love era Beatles-esque. Sgt Pepper in all from the loaded arrangement and orchestrated production, to the piccolo trumpet solo à la Penny Lane. It is an obvious stylistic choice if you're going to relay a message similar to that of 1967. However, I do think Paul would be a little less confrontational about it these days - back in 1989 he was probably still feeling competitive, as he was still prolific on the charts.

Was gonna bring up the Weller reference, pretty much as Ollie mentioned, The Jam was a more street band and Style Council was little more showy.
The Jam are worthwhile... Art School, in the city, little boy soldiers, Town called malice, funeral pyre, the bitterest pill... The list goes on and on.

This is my favorite TFF song, I was never too into them, but this one hits different for me. I was a teenager when it came out, and my family was very politically involved. I can't understand how this song could shoot to #2, yet my generation has now put us all in this horrible situation. I won't go all political, but the Trump Trauma is real and this song has never been more pertinent. JMO.

It took them nearly 4 years to complete this album. This is a song about love, incorporating several different styles, one of them being to a nod at The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love." Not a rip-off, a beautiful reference.

The whole song sounds almost exactly like the Beatles "I Am the Walrus" with a few variations along the way, inspired by other Beatles songs. I don't care if they said it was a "tribute" to the Beatles sound (even Paul seemed to find that disingenuous) - it just sounds like a rip-off to me, including the message, which so many artists keep trying to get across. Not buying it.
