Not only is the Beatles influence obvious, it’s very reminiscent of “I am the walrus” and “all you need is love.”

This was, I'm sure, an intentional tribute to the Beatles and the other messaging and psychedelic music of the '60's.

Too right. Was on a student work visa in Boston, summer 89, when I first heard this - Beatles was first thought.
Song of that summer was soul 3 soul - keep on moving. Loved yanks digging our Brit & Irish shit.

The Sewing the Seeds of Love album was a pinnacle for Tears for Fears. Woman in Chains, Badman's Song, Advice for the Young at Heart are other classics from this album. The title track is obviously Beatle-esque, but it works magnificently.

I hope you cover more Tears For Fears, they are the best band to come out of the 80's, and they are still making great music today. I'll be amazed if you haven't heard Everybody Wants To Rule The World. For my money, their masterpiece is Woman In Chains, not only is it a great song brilliantly produced, but it has the gorgeous voice of Oleta Adams on it. Keep up the good work, more TFF please.

Tears For Fears is one of my favorites. Their production rivals Steely Dan, and that's an ultimate compliment. Check out Woman in Chains, considered by engineers as one of the best mixed songs ever. Others to check out: The Working Hour, Elemental, Break It Down Again, Raoul and the Kings of Spain, Mr. Pessimist and Goodnight Song. That can get you started.

THANK YOU for being one of the few to recommend Raoul & The Kings Of Spain - I know it's really more a Roland solo album than a TFF album, but it's legitimately one of my most revisited 90s albums... and that's saying something.

Yes! You got there with the Beatles influence and Sgt Pepper. Also very strong with Yellow Submarine when he's laying in the couch and there those animated creatures. ❤ This is my absolute favorite Tears for Fears song because it's so different than all their other work. I had their first cd in replay constantly back in the day. I'm sooo glad to have seen you react not only to the song but the video, because this song needs to be experienced visually too! Not alot of reactors have done this one so thank you so much! Made my day.

That was at the hight of the neo-hippie/neo-acid movement in the late 80s that started with the release of the Beatles catallogue on CD in 1987. And you guys nailed it: many Beatles references (I am the Walrus, All you Need is Love, Penny Lane, For No One etc.). Actually it is like many songs packed in one. Thank you for listening to this song - it's absolutely part of the soundtrack of my life since it was released in 1989. it's VERY Beatles influenced, These guys are so good - Tears For Fears broke up after this album and Roland Orzabal went on to make the album Elemental in 1992 (also great!) without Kurt Smith but still retained the Tears For Fears name. "The Working Hour" from Songs From the Big Chair is a masterpiece - you should do a whole album listen to Songs From the BIg Chair. OMG Guys, another of my favorite bands, Tears For Fears. Completely Beatles influenced and also reminiscent is the high level of songwriting by these 2. TFF has so many great songs, Everybody Wants To Rule The World(85), Shout(83), Head Over Heals(85), Change(83) Pale Shelter(83), Advice For The Young At Heart(89 and same album as Sowing and quite a different style!). Very sophisticated, layered songwriting and superb lyrics and the songs NEVER GET OLD much like my favorite band, Steely Dan. The duo of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, actually split up after this album was released. Both did solo work and are back together and touring now and still producing very stylish, very elegant music. So thankful you found TFF and absolutely love watching and listening to your comments about the song. More BEAUTIFUL MUSIC artists: Seal(Prayer For The Dying)/Sade(Maureen)/The Smiths(There Is A Light)/ The Cure(In Between Days). You'll love all of them! Keep up the amazing work my friends!

The song is a throwback to '60s nostalgia (big in the late '80s) with a nod to The Beatles and a kind of Flower Power philosophy to it, including political lyrics starting with "High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man" and ending with "An end to need and the politics of greed."
Written by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the lyrics in this song are a byproduct of Orzabal's interest in psychology and philosophy - he cites Sartre's Les Mains Sales and Arthur Janov's Primal Scream as literary influences. The song is a call to action, asking us to reject the status quo: "High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man."

Great reaction guys!! Tears For Fears is a wonderful rabbit hole to jump down. You know (and like) Shout - probably one of their biggest hits, but I'd check: Woman In Chains, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Change, Mad World, Head Over Heels & Laid So Low (Tears Roll Down) - as your next ventures into T4F. Great group!! Cheers.

I'd classify it as psychedelic pop. It is a tribute to the spirit of late sixties hippies. As on old hippy, they nailed it. Yeah, they also did Shout.
