    It's incredible that Åkerfeldt is able to compose this kind of stuff just by ear. He's got an amazing musical intuition

    I love how more and more people are starting to "notice" the intricate stuffs that opeth do. They have a lot to offer in their riffs other than fast chugging and power chord thunders. The amount of subtlety in their riffages baffles me, every fuckin' time. Nice observation and exhibition of them, anyway. Kudos to you, man ❤

    An excellent lesson as usual. There's a bar here in Tampa called The Brass Mug. My friend and I went there one night to see who was playing. Usually the cover charge is reasonable. But this time it was maybe three times as much. When we asked who was playing, of course, it was Opeth. And when the door opened to let some people through we could hear a very good sounding band. Those guitar parts have a lot of texture.

    It's DADF#AD . I actually did an interview with Mikael on the Progressive Nation tour and he did confirm this.

      Weren't they also playing DADFAE (so like Open Dminadd9) at some point?

    • @michaelsnyder1492
      @michaelsnyder1492 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lukasgraesslin yes that's the Ghost Reveries tuning. I've seen them twice live and Mikael strummed the open strings before playing Reverie/Harliqien Forest.

    • @Henriktranoy
      @Henriktranoy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's actually in DADFAe, or Dmadd9. Becomes more clear when they are playing harmonics.

      Isn’t Ghost Of Perdition in Open D Minor tunings though ? Ie DADFAE ? Just curious as that does change some of the fretting choices.

    Actually most of Ghost Reveries is in an open tuning. It's drop D but the g or d string is different. There are two songs in standard I think.

    Amorphis has changed over the years also. They started out as a death metal band and then changed to a classic rock prog rock band, then back to a metal prog band

  • @MartinUglow
    @MartinUglow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I always play it as a d minor add9 tuning DADFAE - this looks like what they do live if you see the chord shapes and where the solos play on the high string. But if it sounds good, it is good :).

    What do you call an E fingering brought up to the 9th fret? Standard tuning.

  • @diabeticmonkey
    @diabeticmonkey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only strange thing about Ghost Reveries is the tuning. DADFAD was used for like 80% of the album I believe

    3rd song, nice chords, too distorted. I like to actually hear the treble part of it.
    These chords are good, just too muddy sounding for my taste.

    What amp are you playing through?

  • @emmalinn
    @emmalinn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    No Mikael plays the guitar and sings. Not the bass or keyboard.

    • @king638
      @king638 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He played bass on the first couple of records

    • @ManWithoutThePants
      @ManWithoutThePants 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He has played piano on early albums, but he said that he's not as good as Steve Wilson so Steve played keyboard/piano parts on Blackwater Park. Him not playing on the album doesn't mean he doesn't play instrument at all. He probably has gotten a bit better over the years, since I assume he uses keyboards also while making new songs. But guitar is his main instrument of course and what he plays only on albums nowadays since they have keyboardist and bassist.
