It's videos like this that remind me why I love Opeth so much. There's a little bit of everything, and it's pulled off flawlessly. ...then the second track of the album starts!
I know a lot of people may have moved on from Opeth that don’t connect with the new music as much, but it really is insane when you break down not only the number of great albums/songs but the number of MONSTER riffs Akerfeldt has come up with.
I woulda liked to see Dirge for November, that song is so overlooked by everyone, but features one of the best intros & outros I've ever heard. Nonetheless, magnificent video and great elections for the riffs
Yes! Dirge For November has such a bleak (see what I did there) atmosphere. Perfect song for rainy/foggy days or walking around in a forest, as are many other Opeth songs.
Opeth songs never fail to give me goosebumps. Their beautiful dark melodic riffs have so much emotion it triggers a physiological reaction. My friend and I used to go to guitar center after school and play Harvest and people would gather around and watch and it was an amazing feeling.
there is nothing Death metal about Opeth music except than Growl vocals ! maybe there is one or 2 Death metal riffs somewhere but that's not enough for making a band Death metal ! and of course it's impossible to understand this stuff if you don't know song writing in both Progressive and Death metal genres ! Opeth music was just a very extreme kind of playing progressive metal like Gojira , Meshuggah and some others !
Alexandre Araújo i have a question i hope you can answer , Obscura is Prog death metal and you say Opeth is prog death metal too ! do you really think they are in the same exact genre and their music is similar in Death metal parts ?
Dude I really really love the arrangement of your riffs and your riff selections. The transitions are seamless and everything just fits perfectly. This video should have one million views
Demon of the Fall was a very pivotal track for me. It made me fall in love with Opeth. Starting out so dark and evil but then ending in this super tragic and heart gripping musical piece. That beginning with “just one second and I was left with nothing” the ending always brings tears to my eyes. Such a powerful piece of music that will forever be carved into my heart.
Demon of the fall (the ending especially) was my breakthrough Opeth track after trying to get into them for about 10 years. That outro is one of the most beautiful and cathartic musical experiences I've ever had. And when it clicked, it clicked and never went back.
I'am an Opeth Fan for most of my adulthood and this video is aweseome. One of the best Opeth performances I know. It's so well played and packs the best of Opeth in 16 minutes. After this video you know, why Opeth hasn't done a bad album. And if they're in need of a new guitarist, well, I know one.
Sat from the beginning thinking to myself "surely demon of the fall, right?" then we got to the end of the 50 and i was pleasantly surprised. There are sooooo many opeth riffs worth adding, i couldnt imagine the process you used to narrow it down lol. Hell of a job man. well done.
porcelain heart, ghost of perdition, eternal rains will come, dirge for november, sorceress, patterns in the ivy, karma, the grand conjuration, the drapery falls... this band is so amazing, they have enough riffs for another video^^
Am I the only one here who feels as if this whole video is arranged with the same changes as Opeth's songs? Loved it. Also, I really think we should have a second part for this video, many many top shelf riffs/songs left behind.
I just discovered your channel through YT suggestions, and what a find ! As a huge Opeth fan and (still learning) guitar player, I loved this video. Now I need to learn Opeth riffs, ugh
mix between 47-th and 48-th tracks is just rocket! The best part of this video for me. Thanks for your work so much. You've reopened Opeth for me after so many years
Agreed. The pacing of the overall arrangement was great, and I'm sure Akerfeldt would agree. And closing with Demon of the Fall? The only possibility :)
I respect all these great performances by Opeth 🤘. But, But the moment the transition from acoustic guitar to electric guitar in "to bid you farewell" song. I consider it the greatest rhythmic change I have ever heard, I searched a lot and found no one like it.

Out of this world dude. You capture the diversity of Opeth's style but also show how a common thread runs from their earliest work to their newer stuff. Thanks!

HE REALLY DID PICK MY FAVOURITE MOONLAPSE VERTIGO RIFF AND THEN GO RIGHT INTO MY FAVOURITE BLACKWATER PARK RIFF. BRO IM SO HYPED, best way to come out of the string of softer riffs
Agree. Re MAYH especially. To this day I don't understand their unhappiness with it - to me that album was much better structured overall than Still Life. Perhaps it was too 'traditional' for them...but those riffs and transitions...
'Deliverance', 'Ghost of Perdition' and 'Reverie /Harlequin Forest' have always been my favorites, but thanks dude. Thanks to you I found 'Blackwater Park', 'Benighted', 'Nectar', 'The Apostle in Triumph', 'Serenity painted Death', and 'Death of the Fall'.
This is very cool. You are a really talented player. Glad you included a bit from the post-Watershed era, especially the J. Tull riff on Will of the Wisp! This video is a good advertisement for the band. It really shows the diversity of their music.

Lol he’s trolling, he’s been a record collector for decades and mostly 70’s prog. Dream theater influenced him early on.
Pretty sure his influences are ABBA and morbid angel? Good be wrong? But it sounds like better dream theatre to me
@@dixonrooster5954 Those are of course also a major influence!
@@TheSteinbitt crazy if dream theater actually did influence him greatly since he ended up working on the human equation with james labrie
Every Opeth song is great, but "50 Opeth riffs" could basically be a cover of Blackwater Park's title track.
You do have a point there
More like Leper affinity
you mispelled Ghost Reveries
50 Opeth riffs could have been the first four tracks off of Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries.
50 Opeth riffs is like any track from any album. Smh. Haha.

Love Opeth ! Good job !!
Incredibly high quality covers. Opeth has been one of my favorite bands. Thank you for doing this!
I guess it's super appropriate to have a video about Opeth that defies our expectations and goes beyond 50 riffs.
Awesome work.
HE REALLY DID PICK MY FAVOURITE MOONLAPSE VERTIGO RIFF AND THEN GO RIGHT INTO MY FAVOURITE BLACKWATER PARK RIFF. BRO IM SO HYPED, best way to come out of the string of softer riffs
My Arms Your Hearse Still Life and Blackwater Park were absolute riff porn and influenced my playing so fucking much
Agree. Re MAYH especially. To this day I don't understand their unhappiness with it - to me that album was much better structured overall than Still Life. Perhaps it was too 'traditional' for them...but those riffs and transitions...
@@whythatspreposterous the melodies and the transitions in that album are to die for. My favorite Mikael growls as well.
Masterful, and great blending; the riffs transition so smoothly together, that is a very nice attention :)
As always, you owned them all. Amazing talent you have. Keep rocking mate
You did something fantastic here, weaving together riffs from different eras to one coherent piece.
Opeth riffs = piece of art
Second part please! I come to watch this video every now and then and is AWESOME every time
You made my day, thanks man 🤘
You got this out of My mind
'Deliverance', 'Ghost of Perdition' and 'Reverie /Harlequin Forest' have always been my favorites, but thanks dude. Thanks to you I found 'Blackwater Park', 'Benighted', 'Nectar', 'The Apostle in Triumph', 'Serenity painted Death', and 'Death of the Fall'.
You covering the entirety of "Demon of the Fall" is the only way to make my soul rest in peace. Those vocals really are on point!
This is very cool. You are a really talented player. Glad you included a bit from the post-Watershed era, especially the J. Tull riff on Will of the Wisp! This video is a good advertisement for the band. It really shows the diversity of their music.
do 50 black rose immortal riffs next time mate :p
