Tom Hanks is such a classy fellow. Notice how he subtly starts to sit, but then refuses to do so until after Cpt. Sullenberger sits first. It's a very subtle sign of respect.
Absolutely true. In every single interview I've seen with him, he has always praised Jeff Skiles and his cabin crew highly. He emphasizes that, without their professionalism and calm, decisive actions, the outcome of that day might have been tragic. He never, ever fails to give his subordinates the credit they richly deserve. I wish big US corporations would take a lesson from that. They haven't yet....
I HIGHLY recommend you read his book. The way he talks about what happened proves how humble he is and so selfless. He talks about how he didnt like that they focused on him and he tried many times to make sure that the flight attendants and first officer got just as much recognition
I was amazed at how intelligent Capt. Sully is. So well spoken yet and clear. The times I have listened to him he both conveys how well he did his job and never sounding obnoxious. I am happy you pointed that out so well.
I don't doubt him and movie was very good, but to be fair even if he would have not liked it he probably would have not said it to Tom Hanks's face in a live tv.
That's the genuine reward of a performer, when the real one says "You've done great, I couldn't tell you from reality.". It happend to me when I acted as the Prince of Monaco Charles IIIrd. The Commander of the Princely guard came to me to ask how I managed to portray my character with "...such precision it's so real to me, and I've worked at the Palace for over 30 years now.". That made my day like nothing else, before or after. And the director, standing behind without me noticing, told him "You just told my actor the most valuable thing possible : that he has done his job to such an extend it did not seem like a job to you.". And he was so true !
Well, he kinda did at the end, when he says, "My interview." It's a pun on when a pilot will hand over control to the other pilot, he'll say "Your aircraft," and the pilot taking control says, "My aircraft."
That's the power of hard-practiced checklists and procedures, that two total strangers are able to follow them together and bring a plane safely out of the sky.
@TheNavalAviator An amazing achievement for them both. Only other example at the same level I can think of is United 232. In their case, the crew of 232 didn't have to work so fast, but their ordeal lasted 45 minutes. During that time they had to invent a new method of controlling the crippled aircraft with no active control surfaces. As an experiment, United put randomly chosen groups of 3 pilots in a simulator, and gave them the chance to bring the pane back to the airport. None made it to the runway on the first try. Not trying to make a comparison here, just a statement of appreciation of the professional behaviour of the best airline crews. One of the pilots in 232 wasn't even part of the crew, but another pilot among the passengers.
It’s crazy to think that he never met the first officer before. It goes to show how professional these pilots are. You just do the job you were trained for regardless who is sitting next to you. Respect.
My grandfather flew airliners after the war and retired as a Delta Captain flying Lockheed L-1011 widebodies. He enjoyed Tom Hanks' movies and understood better than most what Captain Sullenberger achieved by landing that plane without any loss of life. He also had a great sense of humor, and I think he would have loved this!
One of the very best and most emotional movies I have ever seen. I spent 10 years as a flight attendant, I felt a connection to that movie I am certain other cabin crew felt.
Whenever Sully talks about it, he always gives great respect and credit to the job the flight attendants did keeping everybody calm and organizing the evacuation after the crash.
Back in the day when Sully flew for Piedmont, I recall as a passenger leaving the plane and filing out near the pilot's compartment when the friendly mustached pilot (Sully) exchanged pleasantries with departing passengers. A class act.
Tom Hanks did such an amazing job in that film, and I especially loved how it focused more on the aftermath and the trials instead of the crash. Because everyone knows that part, but nobody really knew about the trials.
Liked it aswell and well consturcted drama, but the trial was not like that in reality. There were no assholes trying to blame the pilots who had to be then proved wrong. It was a regular investigation about the crash and took 15 months to be concluded. During that time pilots werent allowed to fly before investigation was closed, but they were not blamed like the movie presented. That was just to add drama and "villain vs hero" narrative.
I will forever be in awe of that landing and the lives saved. Im glad Sully got the heroes recognition he deserves, and was around to see the appreciation. There arent too many stories with happy endings in the news, and half of them involve NFL team owners in Florida so its nice to remember a real one
I hope that when that sad day comes, people make sure that Captain Sullenberger's headstone notes what this amazing pilot achieved that day for those passengers. And it stands as a testament (made to last for at least a few hundred years) so anyone coming across it, can read just what a great & truly respected man/pilot lies buried in that space. So much respect.
The real Sully is such a georgous man. His voice, pose and wisdom. Not a celebrity, but became a star and is good in that spot. Tom Hanks is amazing, as always, of course.
Tom Hanks. Such a great actor. His reaction upon seeing Capt Sully reminded me of his immense surprised look when Capt Jim Lovell gave a speech about him some years ago.
I think my favorite scene is when he’s at the hospital, getting checked out, and his heart rate decreases when he finds out that all 155 on board survived.

I just saw it this morning (the earliest show), and I was in awe as well. I was so tempted to go back for second viewing, on the same day 😂 but I decided to save it later for next week, in case I need inspiration during weekdays. Definitely will watch it again.
This movie was sooo different from other movies about airplanes and the stuff I mean that finale and the emotions....then the actual scenes of it happening and the rescue...intense... and I advice everyone to sit through the end credits
I know, right? I'm so glad I sat down through the end credits. Now I'm kinda interested in buying the book. Captain Sully seems like a man that I want to learn from.
For some reason, Sullenberger makes me think of the prototype you'd want in a President or any leader of a country. Humble, respectful, speaks with a melliflous manner and charisma, and has the smile that inspires confidence in other people.
I'm from Russia, I know about that accident with a happy ending, and I was very pleased to see this film recreates those events. The commander of the aircraft, Sullenberger a pilot with great experience, and really lucky that he's got this emergency situation. And I'm very happy for all the people who were saved during landing, it is truly a miracle. The movie with Tom Hanks also turned out very well. We in Russia also had a couple of similar cases.
Wow... that's funny about not knowing he's funny... Hanks got his start on a sitcom called Bosom Buddies, where he and another guy played guys who dressed in drag so they could get an apartment in an all-female building.
Saw the film last night in a UK cinema in Camberley. Although most of us know the story, the film keeps you focused throughout with Tom Hanks managing to deliver a performance which will keep your attention throughout. The very end of the film during the credits, was quote emotional, so do not leave the cinema early!!!
If anyone deserves the congressional medal of freedom, it's Sully! What a true American hero, didn't crack under the pressure of what occurred and to have the courage to land the plane in the Hudson river and no lives lost! He can't get enough accolades for what he did! Amazing!
It is the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a civilian honor award. Congress bestows the Congressional Medal of Honor to war heroes and delegates the President to actually give the award.
I was terrified to even board the aircraft. This was pre 911. I was invited into the cockpit.. he signed a certificate and gave me Jr. Crew member wings.. all the way to LaGuardia he made announcements about things going on.. even though I was still afraid he made the flight great
That message at the end always throws me off. I think he says: "If you enjoyed the video, hit Subscribe; and if you don't click subscrbe, this invisible hamster will die." But he pauses after the second "subscribe", so I keep hearing "If you enjoyed the video, hit Subscribe; and if you don't, click subscrbe. Yes... as crew members, we have dozens or hundreds of coworkers we only see once, or never. This is logical, as flight schedules mean "Operations" services must juggle with hours and days and weeks. It's often I had to enjoy the presence of a colleague... to never work (we say "fly") with them ever again. But, during those few hours together, we must make the most of it so our passengers see us as the most unified team ever, the most capable group of workers... like we've worked alongside one another for 10 years, and know each other by heart. It's a service job, a position dedicated to others... only at 10000 meters high. And that makes it special.
Love Tom Hanks, but I can't help but see Sully's glaring resemblance in both look and especially mannerism to William H. Macy...guess he doesn't have enough star power for Clint

I didn't even know the movie was based on a true story I just saw Tom Hanks in it and since I love him I watched it and loved it. Then some months later I was watching this show called Air Disasters a show that talks about aircraft crashes around the world and the Hudson River one came on I was in awe. I became an instant fan of Captain Sully myself❤❤❤
Imagine the co-pilot having met Sulley once days before and then listens to Sulley telling controller, “We’ll be in the bay” ... Co-pilot thinking to self, can we talk about this 😳
when i was a young NCO, i had company commander tell me once that when we are cold, wet, tired and hungry all we'll have to draw on is our training. the pilot and co pilot never knew each other but they had their training to fall back on.
@@jeremyadler-g1o No, used to take flying lessons back in the day, and the guy who taught me drove sully from his hotel to the airport. i was with him at the time, so i got to meet him and his wife.

I would love to see the entire interview, I would like to think there was more that the few seconds shown in this clip of the two of them together.
Very enjoyable TV moment. Respect and class of both of these men is noteworthy.
Imagine how cool and redundant the two pilots were. They placed her down in the Hudson river in NYC.
Redundant might be the wrong word? They still had to drop it at a perfect 11° angle to get that result.
Legend...salute to u Sir
Offended this is only 1:33 long.
Co-pilot thinking to self, can we talk about this 😳
He actually said "the Hudson," and "the river," not "the bay."
1:12 Hank's mock petulant tone was just perfect.
I just made the invisible hamster die.
I've made it die multiple times
I know I'm uncultured but plz explain
@@noir6743 It's Jimmy's corny joke in the end.
I came back to this video just to find this in the comments section. Thanks. Lmao!
There's an invisible hamster genocide taking place
All Tom Hanks films are brilliant and Sulley is no exception
1:09 that guy is amazed
Two great men on stage.
Capt. Sullenberger is dapper as all get out here.
when i was a young NCO, i had company commander tell me once that when we are cold, wet, tired and hungry all we'll have to draw on is our training. the pilot and co pilot never knew each other but they had their training to fall back on.
I was lucky enough to ride with Sully and his wife in a car, they were both really kind people.
how? did you share a cab or something?
@@jeremyadler-g1o No, used to take flying lessons back in the day, and the guy who taught me drove sully from his hotel to the airport. i was with him at the time, so i got to meet him and his wife.
