This isn't magic. This isn't conversion. This is an upgrade program. This is an upgrade program for a service with proprietary hardware that costs $4,000 and up. Just wow.
Once you have put your dvd in and it has been registered, do you need to keep that dvd for future use? I’m just wondering if I can dispose of my old dvd collection or if I have to keep it?
How are older movies/shows officially turned into blu ray or 4k ? I imagine it must take some sort of manpower seeing as a lot of classic older movies & shows are still being asked for in higher quality, like the blade trilogy or static shock. I get these days it might not sell well but well enough to make, if it isn't something physically taxing to do?
I like that you can take a DVD level movie and get a discounted, uncompressed UHD HDR version. Is going from BR to UHD HDR even less or about the same?
@@JilesMcCoy From someone who has now added a second NAS and upgraded capacity a second time, investing in K-scape at today’s price is not as expensive as people’s reactions. The convenience factor is weighing on me.
you aren't actually converting anything as they are just giving you a small discount to buy an upgraded version. To many of these Kaleidescape video's are titled or describe it in a way that makes you think you can put your DVD's and Bluerays on the system when that is really far from the truth. You show you have proof that you have an old version and in a lot of instances i have seen it brings the price from say $25 to $20 so you essentially have to buy your entire collection again and be tied to their platform.
The title didn’t imply that. It simply says that you can get that quality with Kaleidescape. If you want 4k disc you just need to go buy a 4k disc. Just a quick trip to Target or wherever.
A good blue ray player can already up convert to higher resolutions if you have the Hi Res television. The computer can do the same for you for streaming if you have the Hi Res tv.
Why in the world should we pay $4,000 and upward, when we could do all this with a good PC, a professional software, and a Blu ray burner all for much less than $2,000 USD ?!!!
Converting is absolutely the wrong word. I was expecting some ai upscaling program or something, not a "you can use your dvd as a voucher for a cheaper digital download". Literally zero conversion going on

Just wow.
Its fricken awesome.
It feels magical to me when I have a crappy old DVD and I can turn it into 4K HDR.
Vudu does this magic for less
@David Farris VUDU doesn't offer uncompressed lossless audio and video that can be better than the disc at times.
@@JilesMcCoy but you are not turning a DVD into 4K HDR at all. Your video appears a little deceptive whether or not that was intentional.

Are you paid by Kscape?
@@Bosworth123 I wish! (In other words, no.) Kaleidescape, they think I should get a fat payday! Hook a brother up!

It never needs it again.
I like the part where the quality difference is shown
Is there really a question of DVD vs 4K quality?
@@travelfanatics you clearly don't understand how resolution works
Maybe I dont know either. I can for sure see a difference in resolution between 4K and SD. What exactly do you mean?
Will this work with the Strato C player? I noticed you have Strato S in the video.
Everything Strato s and newer is good.
@@JilesMcCoy awesome. Thanks!

You have to scan in the film. It’s a big effort.
@@JilesMcCoy gotcha, thanks! Favorite movie of all time coming out in 4k next month (sf2 the animated movie) and got curious about the process.
Will this work on DVds that aren't available in the Kaleidoscope store?
My guess is no... but Ive never come up against that issue.

Ive not looked at that direcly. Ill check it out,

Isn't it sort of similar to Vudu And Movies Anywhere beside needing internet to watch?
It is a tool where you down load movies to the player ahead of time. And they are higher quality than 4k blu ray.
Why on earth would I do this when my local pawn shops are dumping Blu-rays at 2 for $5
If you don’t see the value then you shouldn’t do it.

Thats what the video is all about. That process. How you take an old DVD and end up with a UDH HDR version to watch.
Then how do I get it back on physical media? What good is this? it is not transportable
You would already have it on physical DVD right?
@@JilesMcCoy Yes, but I want it in 4K BluRay on a disk like your video title implied.

So worth it too!

That is upconverting. This is getting access to the higher res source material. Completely different.
It's not a "CD-ROM", it's a "BD-ROM" ;)
For sure :)

Because you cant do all this with that setup. You can do some of the things kinda like Klaeidescape... but its not the same features.
This is not magic you are just downloading the 4k version
That is the magic!
