I owned a GC8 wagon, UK Turbo 2000 V reg so the 1.5 facelift version and loved that car, it was practical as I am into carp fishing, big enough to fit all my fishing stuff into the back, also big enough to sleep in the back with the seats down and quick enough for a wagon, the newer versions, and I have driven them never really really felt as raw so I didn't buy one. I eventually bought a Leon Cupra FR to replace it, not as raw a driving experience but so much better build quality. Expect to spend a few k to get this to a keeper.
No.49 over here. Absolutely love mine. Look into the rear struts, if you have rust like that in the door frame, it may be worse higher up. Also needs a front lip and the Prodrive wheels it came with. You got the nice interior too which is a bonus.
I've just ordered some new shock Absorbers for it so I'll check it all over when I've got them off. Thanks for the heads up 🙂 Been shopping for the original wheels, thankfully they're not as hard to find as I thought they would be so I'll get some of them bought soon too 😁 How long have you owned yours for?
@@LeadFootash23 I’ve had mine 18 months. No major issues apart from an O2 sensor. Mine had the secondary air pump removed and that helped give a little more horse power and extra torque, you should look into that. I look forward to seeing more content!
Nice find man damn! Good to see ppl getting into these because i've had mine a few years and i fkn love it! I'm running an 02 WRX bugeye wagon non STI thing. I bought it about 4 or 5 years ago and 6 months later the engine failed. I think tbh it was just the head gasket but i kinda lost confidence in the engine as a whole... so i hunted around and it turned out CHEAPER to replace the bottom end ej205 engine with a stronger ej207 STI engine! So i went in that direction.... bottom end ej207 with reconditioned OEM cylinder heads... Cosworth head gaskets and ARP studs. all new water lines, STI 550cc injectors, exedy clutch, replaced engine mounts and gbox mount with hardrace items... bunch of other stuff. Nothing crzy power wise - probably 280-290 at 1.1bar boost. Then i replaced suspension with BC coilovers and i swapped the oem calipers and disks for D2 6 pot front and 4 pot rear with 356mm discs all round. The brakes swap is by FAR my single best modification to the car. Its not as light as ppl think because of the 4wd system and its a wagon so more metal - the D2 brake swap is probably about £3.5k of money but its worth EVERY penny! Even just doing the front is a major game changer in braking confidence. I can troll the hell off sooooo many other cars.... most stuff is faster in a straight line as we climb up the speeds, but then we get to twisty roads and i can literally bully them as their brakes start to fade after a few corners and you see them slowing down earlier or going wide on roads, and i'm sat on their back like an annoying hornet - its hilarious hehehe! Its currently in workshop for a 6 speed gearbox swap and some other bits - cant wait - really need to do a video on it (i have no vids online) A heads up... the metal water lines that run around the engine are a bit notorious for perishing and rusting and clogging up over the years... replace them if you plan to rebuild. Also if you find the one on the top of the block is leaking which they are prone to do, replace with a NEW one and use NISSAN gasket seal (the red stuff) to seal it in place! otherwise you'll be back in there again swearing. good little vid - btw seen your restoring a 32gtst - i've gone through 4 skylines myself prior to this subaru lol... last car i had was a 32gtr with fully forged engine and 2860-5 tubs making 600 bhp - it moved like a cartooon!
if you are planning on going OEM+ on this, and committed to repairing the rear arches and front fender, look into sedan arches + sedan front fenders and sedan rear doors. You would also need sedan bumpers to round it out but you would have the wider style GD in a wagon, without the tack on style wide body arches that are going to look shoddy after a few years on the road. very jealous of the road you get to drive @ 11:30 mark
Don't put ideas like that in my head 😂 I did wonder how easy it would be to do that. Yeah really lucky that I live in a place with such awesome driving roads 😁 Thanks for watching!!
What a weapon i had a SF5 uk s turbo manual 1/30 left in manual and it was fucked rotten after 10 months and 11,000 miles of ownership rear turrets and subframe were fucked am tryna find another one but it is hard guess al just keep looking i would love a stock one too mod later
@@LeadFootash23 aye its so hard too find a clean one ! What happened too your stb sf5 did rust get that aswell see the next Subaru i buy ill make sure the full car gets undersealed wax oiled or lanoguarded id recommend doing over both your subframes aswell
Love the car, I have the same shape and colour over here in Aus. Looks so weird without roof rails and the silver mesh in the grille is horrid. Is that standard?
I think it's going to be a nightmare trying to find the original wheels. I would love to find them though but possibly might be able to find another set of prodrive wheels that could work. I really hate the wheels they've put on it, they sit so far in the arches 😫
@@LeadFootash23 I never even heard of this edition of Impreza before. Only 100 to start with and I bet a fair few of those have been wrapped round a tree since. A great purchase. 😊👍
Super tidy motor there son . Be careful on those back roads though…..I wrote off two of em once hitting a parked trailor and the other a 3ft wide oak stump. I happened to be smashed on the second one.
Will definitely be putting the prodrive wheels back on it once I can get my hands on a set!! Not sure why they've been taken off but the wheels wheels they've put on sit way too far in.
The fact it’s number 69 should double the value
Definitely 😂

Absolutely love a Subaru. My favourite car.
I have the saloon gb270 build number 126 in blue it was either this or a 350 while my R33 is getting front end rebuild
I commute on a road similar to that windy one that you were on so I know exactly how much fun you have trying not to be heavy footed 😅
I like this model but did not know only 100, I have a 2004 liberty gt sdi turbo wagon which make 300 each year and runs well.
Great car.My friend had a mk1 turbo 2000 estate and even that was quick
Quite a little gem, congrats!
NO.4 over here, what a car!
That's an absolutely amazing car!
It's like the old saying you can sleep in a estate but can't race a van. Well something like that anyway haha

I had the same problem with this.
Rear turrets on both sides were absolutely rotten, I've fixed it now but need to repair the outer arches next

I've heard of the gb270 but thought it would only be a saloon so that's a rare find
They made 300 saloons and only 100 estates so they're hard to come by but the estate was just so much more practical for me
i just bought an 02 wagon as well is there a video or something i can learn about this headlight body rarity? i got a crazy crazy deal
This car is beautiful

Yeah it's something that came on the GB270 only, I'll be honest it's probably the thing I like the least about the car too
Love it!!! Omg I never knew these existed
Maybe try find a set of the original wheels for it to make it oem 👍

Probably tells you how bad my Van was when I've replaced it with an Impreza to save money 😂

Thinking about getting one , how bad are they to run?😅 feeling like I won’t like the answer 🤣
I've had a lot of cars and it's by far the most expensive car I've ever had to run 😅
NICE
has the wrong wheels but nice other wise
