I knew Pajama Sam's voice sounded familiar. He's voiced by the sames actress who voiced Bobby Hill in King of the Hill.

The writing is surprisingly clever for a nineties kids game.
BugPope I think a dude from Lucas Arts point n clicks went on to found Humongous Entertainment which also explains why the puzzles are pretty good sometimes too
Just doesn't work that well for an international audience.
I guess British audience should have ... Slough? .. or maybe UK as a whole.
As a kid growing up in Seattle, it felt like this game was made for me.

Extra surprising considering Davegrossman was the writer of this game and worked on the first PJ Sam, aswell as Monkey island and other lucasarts point and click games. And those are full of puns and word play

I feel like they should have been named "rain and thunder". then it'd have made more sense especially with how one is a god damn rain cloud. heck rain is often a symbol of calmness so it works there as well!

retosius It's more irony than anything, Thunder is an extremely loud noise caused by clouds and lightning, but she's the quiet one.

I second the Legoland recommendation! Possibly my earliest non-edutainment game, and a really nostalgic one at that. (I think it's also what made three-year-old me terrified of aliens. :p )

Best Pajama Sam game hands down, the atmosphere of world wide weather just felt so fun and expansive. For some reason I just really loved being able to explore an office building where all the workers were also office supplies. Always felt bad for that trashcan. I always admired his rebellious spirit as he said "One of these days we trash cans are gonna unionize!"
That's kinda weird that you had so much trouble with the pot of gold, as a kid I never had trouble with that part. I always had trouble with the mushroom thing and the snowflake inspector.
Maybe it's because I'm old now and have no imagination left in me.

I remember finding the gold by complete accident just from playing around with the machine. Sometimes, finishing these games is more about basic five-year-old curiosity than imaginative puzzle-solving.

"About to" implies that his death is imminent, and that he dies in the course of the game.
How about reviewing "Pajama Sam 3: You are what you eat from your head to your feet" and "Pajama Sam 4: Life is Rough when you loose stuff"? When I was little my copy of Pajama Sam 2 came with a small plush of Pajama Sam and I was also a big fan of Spy Fox, the one where Spy Fox sounded like Don Adams, could you do PC reviews on Spy Fox?
I'll review the rest of the PJ Sam games in time, I just don't want to do them all at once.
And yes! I did a video over the first Spy Fox game, though it is a fairly old video. I've also covered some Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish games, as well as Fatty Bear! I'm a big fan of Humongous Entertainment's Junior Adventure series.

No hair gel! I just wash/condition my hair, push it back out of my face, and let it dry.

That moment when you play-through Pajama Sam3 and realize:This is an children's game with talking food and it's a thousand times more mature than Sausage Party an adult movie with talking food! There are so much hidden adult topics in that game. It's incredible!

As someone who used to play this game constantly as a kid (and even now in my late 20's just for fun lol), I'm SO glad you covered Thunder and Lighting Aren't So Frightening! It's such a beautiful game. And with my favorite Sam voice, Pamela Segall Adlon!

Pajama Sam 2 was the first Pajama Sam game I ever played. I remember the demo for it on my Blue's Clues ABC Time Activities CD-ROM as well as other Humongous demos like Putt-Putt Travels Through Time and Freddi Fish 3.
Oh man i had the same Blue's Clues game! I remember thinking Pajama Sam looked rad, never did get a copy of it, though I did score a ton of the classic Backyard Sports games at garage sales when I was young, so there's a victory.
I had the Blue's Birthday game. I, for some reason, still remember how the kids would say the months in the year...idk why x_x
So hold on; Pajama Sam, the kid playing the role of a children's hero, causes countless natural disasters throughout the world because he decided to stumble on his superhero cape and landed his "Pajama'd Butt" (tm Brutalmoose 2017) on the big-red-but-suspciously-unprotected-button which triggers natural disasters?
...hmm, these games may be fun and smiles, but someone oughta question Sam's true motives. He's more of a disguised villain if you ask me...

Oh my gosh...THANK YOU for talking about the vending machine thing! I played this game for the first time a few years ago with two of my friends in college and we were stuck on that part forever. I did eventually say "Hey, what if we grew a rainbow and got coins from the pot of gold at the end of it!?" we all laughed and thought that would be stupid. One of my friends even said they'd pay for the next pizza if that were the case and...sure enough.
I'm just assuming that hell on earth for the people who live in Seattle is a sunny day.

This game took me back. I grew up with it. But I only now realise that talking Y asks "Why?" the whole time because it's pronounced the same way as "Y". I grew up with the Dutch version of the game, and in the Dutch language the name of that character/its shape and the word "why" don't have the same pronunciation.

Not sure if I needed to write a third reply, but I just wanted to say this reference.
a way the game devs could have made this one a bit better is if Sam didn't encounter Thunder and Lightning until the end of the game, like with Darkness. the plot could still play out the same with Sam accidentally pressing the button and messing up the weather, but the goal instead becomes about putting everything back to rights before Thunder and Lightning notice. they could be foreshadowed as scary, demanding villains by employees Sam interacts with in the factory, and could occasionally appear menacingly on screens throughout the factory. at the end of the game when everything is fixed, Sam actually meets Thunder and Lightning and finds that they aren't mad at him at all, they're just glad he fixed his mistake and owned up to it. thus, Sam discovers that Thunder and Lightning aren't so frightening.
Nobody's gonna point out that when the weather went haywire Seattle got sunshine? xD
Okay, I'm sorry if I sound weird or cheesy, but I just want to take a moment to say thank you.
I was in an art compitition earlier today, and my art teacher also put my work on display for judging, (and I won't hear about the results until Wednesday) and because of it I obviously left with an anxious feeling. But basically, after watching some videos and hearing you talk about games in a rather relaxed and calm demenor has helped me calm down a bit.

I always wanted this game when I was a kid because Pajama Sam 1 rocked so hard but my dad (arbiter of computer games in our house) wouldn't buy it for me because he said I wasn't afraid of thunder and lightning. I remember saying, "So you bought me the first one because you thought I was afraid of the dark?!" And he said yes and I said, "I wasn't..." and he said, "Oh." So I guess I'm lucky I even got to play the first one!

I haven't played these games, so it's always a treat hearing you talk about what you enjoyed so much as a kid, Ian. Even if this one didn't blow you away, I really enjoyed your overview of it. Definitely a solid way to cap off a Sunday.
