Beat me to it. That's probably my favorite indie game ever, and it feels like nobody talks about it. Its puzzles are varied and rewarding, the combat is fast and fun, and the world is so much fun to explore! Also easily accessible, being on pretty much every current gen console (I think). This is the first time in a while I watch a video of this kind and it actually manages to notably increase my wishlist. Specially the party game section, I don't think I knew any of them. And the only one I have played before is Figment (which, btw, I should continue).

I love the Don't Escape series ! each game has a unique storyline and the game really makes you want to keep playing and playing until you get all the endings, i played the entire series when flash was still around (rip flash) my most favorite was the third don't escape, the further you go into the story, the more invested and on edge you would be. then when you get to the ending, uncover the truth behind why and how the entire crew is dead, youd get chills crawling on your back. the truth would be 'simple' but the more you think about it, the more you look back on the playthrough, there's so much things that click together. the deep sleep series was amazing as well ! i only played it with my brother when we were younger so i dont remember much (i was also really scared of horror haha) but it was so well made and an amazing experience, if you love horror then i think this is a good series, theres a few cheap jumpscares but i think it wouldnt bother you that much in the long run ^^ unfortunately i cant play the 4th dont escape game (which was shown in the video) however if i ever do get the chance, i definitely would ! and i do recommend anyone to try out the dont escape series as well the deep sleep series ! have a nice day everyone
Such an excellent video, and so many interesting games we've never heard of! Thanks so much for collating this list! We will definitely be checking out some of those point and clicks and RPGs. Of those in the list I have played, RoundGuard and Horace are both absolute gems and wonderful ways to spend hours on end. I can't recommend either enough! Also a couple of gems that spring to mind that would fit on this list - Gibbous and Everhood (though they probably have over 1000 reviews)
Something that had just over 1000 reviews, but figured you might like for the flash- steam release is Rebuild 3. It is rebuild 1 and 2 but made better than ever for steam and mobile.
recommendation. Outcore Desktop Adventure. the game isnt out yet at the time of me writing this but a demo is and its really cool. a big chunk of the game is played on your actual computer desktop (hence, Desktop Adventure) and you have to interact with your desktop to progress.
"the best SNES-inspired game you've never played" joke's on you, I love Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass (though genuinely, if you haven't played it it's worth checking out. it's like a cross between Mother 3 and Yume Nikki.)
My dream game would be something with a story and vibe i got from Undertale, Witcher 3, and Night in the woods. The satisfaction and fluidity of a good combat and movement system like in Hades, the Ori games, or Celeste. And a fancy/fantasy-like artstyle like in Hollow knight, oneshot, or Ori and the blind forest. But that's waaaay too specific and too much. I would make one myself but that's also way too much to take lol. I also have no idea how.
@@Litepaw an idea I haven't seen utilised.much is the people "trapped" in the game are very much happy to be there, and they don't wanna leave. Either way I want more of those games where you are able to interact with the game characters face to face. Monika, Leahy, and Sans are people who just want more time with.
If you’re ok with being mercilessly killed a number of times that a supercomputer the size of a mountain couldn’t count to, play Rain World. It pretty much fits the bill, while replacing fantasy with dystopia. Lord is good, combat is hard to get into but so fun to get right, and a great art style that, while technically not pixel art, still kinda looks pixelly. There’s also AI like no other and procedural animation which, instead of using set, drawn animations, it instead uses code to make animations by itself, increasing the fluidity of the game. The movement system is fucking amazing, as well. Truly a world where it rains.
Awesome video, I just hoped you mentioned strike force heroes it was a very good flash series and the developers are working on a remastered version (its in early development). But anyways I love your videos and your flashlight series
@@2leftthumbs the teaser was posted a month ago and I missed it too until a few days ago when in the middle of the night I remembered this game and searched it on TH-cam
So going thru my wish list and library I've found: Shadowgate remake only has 435 reviews. Blaster Master Zero 1-3 has 257 to 632 reviews. La Mulana 2 has 539 but 1 has 1638. Ocean's heart 711 reviews. Xanadu next 379 reviews. World of Horror (or as i call it world of delays) has 4,641 reviews. Astalon Tears of the Earth only has 472 reviews(I want a sequel or prequel to this masterpiece)

@@2leftthumbs Well, I happened to see that Figment had an absolutely amazing sale going on (like $2 for the game), so I got that one. I also bought all the other games on Steam by Bedtime Digital Games, except for Figment 2. Got like 5 games for $12 total, including a couple games by other developers with similar styles that were part of the bundle. I'd recommend you check out the rest of Bedtime Digital's games if you haven't already. I'm also very interested in Potion Craft and HorrorVale, and fascinated by Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. I saw you playing that last one on a livestream a while back, and I know there's a ton of content in it, which will hopefully keep me occupied for a good while. :) Games like Horace and Battle Chef Brigade scare me a little bit because I've convinced myself I'm bad at skill-based video games, but I hope to give them a shot as well. Unfortunately, I have a dinky lil laptop that won't run most of these games. So for now, I'm wishlisting most things until I can afford a computer that can actually handle them. (And also impulse-buying a few of them because they look so cool...) Hopefully I'll be able to get a better computer soon!
The problem with playing games on Steam is that it's essentially a platform for PC, meaning that you can only play the games with a keyboard instead of a controller like a console. :P
@@2leftthumbs But doesn't actually seem weird being able to play certain games on a PC, particularly 2D-style platformers? This isn't the 2000s anymore, and consoles are the best way to play those kind of games as well.
@@sonicmario64 It's all about feel. If you've played on keyboard more often, then controllers would feel a bit off. For you, it seems controller is better for you.
Pretty nice list. I'll look at a few of them. I think I'll also leave a few smaller games that I've played here. Hyperbolica - Puzzle/Adventure game, interesting, but motion sickness beware. The World is Your Weapon - Turn-based RPG, a perfect gift for a loot goblin. Sumire - Visual Novel, highly recommend. Depersonalization - It's basically the TTRPG Call of Cthulhu. Very interesting. Pocket Mirror - RPGMaker Horror, personally, I like it. Touhou Endless Dream - Roguelike Bullet Hell, I like it, but it's not fully translated, which is sad. Hopefully, someone find a game interesting.
I was already a fan of Later Alligator, Smile For Me, and Hollowvale and now you have given me intrigue to Figment, Grime, No Escape, and Jimmy And The Adventure Of The Amorphous Blob (I probably screwed up the name)
The YamaYama and King of the Hat controls feel absolutely fantastic. Worth trying out for just how natural they are. And I'm not just saying that because I won them.
There was a game from a long time ago on the 3DS called Swords and Darkness. It was a a random e-Shop purchase that I thought I would regret but I ended up 100%ing it. It was a lot of fun for what it was. There are definitely better games out there but if it’s still available for purchase anywhere and you’re into Castlevania-type games I definitely recommend it. There weren’t exactly many indie masterpieces made all the way back in 2013 so it was a lot more impressive then than it would be now. It wasn’t anything special but I still think about it from time to time for some reason. It was just a fun thing to run through over a weekend.
Personally I think a really underrated rhythm game is groove coaster. It has an awesome array of mechanics in this line rider style, and it even has an official (dlc) Undertale song collection!
I recommend you play Copy Kitty. It's an amazing 2D arena platformer inspired by Megaman and Kirby 64. It has 2 playable characters with completely different playstyles, at least 175 weapons and powerups, and a hard mode that's actually a continuation of the normal mode. Best of all, it's only made by 2 people. You can check it out on Steam.
One very interesting game I know, though I don't really know what genre to define it in, is Armed With Wings. It was originally a flash game series, and the very first game in that series got a full remake on steam that is far better than the original. Armed With Wings 2 and 3 were much better than 1, so if the first remake was this good, I can't wait for the next ones.
More than 1000 reviews but I'd absolutely recommend checking out Little Nightmares. It's a horror/puzzle game with such an intriguing world. Watch a couple trailers to see if you like the look of it, but I promise it is 100% worth your time.
The best thing about this video is games that I own and haven't played better featured in. It all look great. Shout out to humble for helping me have a stacked backlog
I would strongly recommend Boomerang Fu, it’s exciting, easy to pickup the controls, and has excellently smooth animations and controls. Also, this game is the opposite of janky, everything feels great and intuitive to use, and there are no bugs
dude kingsway is so good i played it on discord when nitro used to have free games and i loved it for the small amount of time i played it, and oh man does it get hard keeping track of all your windows, especially since i’m the opposite of the type of person to keep that many windows up on an actual computer it made it all that much better and chaotic with the threat of the darkness coming slowly
Good video I also recomend: -knock knock -omori -IB -Demonofobia -don't starve -jump King (this one is quite hard) -Hell is other demons -one shot -roguelands or magicite (these are very simmilar because of same developer but both are worth play) -minit -the escapeist -rain world -rimworld -Patologic and Patologic 2 -Hollow Knight -the end is nigh -super meat boy -rooten -neverending nightmares -reventure -every Scott Cawton game (especialy Five nights at freddy's series) If i will find morę interesting games I will updated this comment
Fun Boomerang Fu Idea: Deactivate all Powerups except double boomerang, multi boomerang and explosive boomerang, crank that power up spawn rate up and relish in pure chaos
a rogue lite I will recommend to my dying breath is streets of rogue. holy shit this game is fun. its not that long (about an hour) which makes it super repayable. it has about 30 characters which all function differently, some more than others. Ive heard it described as a rules lite game which is accurate. you get these objectives at the start of the floor and its up to you how you complete them. sometimes failing them is often the best decision. please play this game
A really good recommendation I have for a point and click game is Trader of Stories, a game with a heavy focus on telling a story that, at least for me, was incredibly captivating. The characters and plot are amazing, and I recommend checking it out.
As we apparently have similar taste in puzzle games - I suggest Unpacking. It's very short, and honestly unsure if it was worth the full $20 I spent on it, but it was so satisfying and fun.
Play Boomerang Fu. Just play it. There's a reason why it's so highly rated on Steam. The controls are flawless, it'll run beautifully even on a potato pc, and most of all, it's fun. I play it with my 12 year old son often, and he kicks my ass at it.
I recommend Project Arrhythmia it's a lot like just shapes and beats so it's a bullet hell style game. There are tons of community created characters each have their own lore and abilities. Some people create storylines that have some awesome characters and cool lore. Some are comparable to actual shows!
One of the games on the list should be At Least There Is Čeda Čedović - 2d platformer inspired by Mario 3 and SMW. By the way, it actually does have start from flash animations (though they were uploaded on youtube instead of newgrounds)
it's interesting to hear about deep sleep in this video (if only very briefly.) someone close to me played that trilogy and it absolutely ruined my life when i was a kid it scared the living daylights out of me (ironic because it's. a horror game about sleep.) i'd lay awake every night in terror... the whole idea that you could end up in that horrible world just by falling asleep too hard... absolutely nightmarish.
You didn't say Sally Face! It has such a cool art style and the characters and plot are amazing. When you see this, make sure to mention me when you get to Travis.
Quite a lot of interesting titles in here! I downloaded this to watch a week ago for my cruise; I'm gonna have to look into a lot of these later since I have quite the backlog, but I did buy Duel on Board right away cause there isn't exactly a surplus on games to play with my friend one-on-one.
50: remembering watching a all cutsence by gamer's little playground I thought it was pretty cool and I just saw that character you play as in the game on thumbnail and that why watch this video.
I highly recommend to check Figment, at least for this story, atmosphere and music (this game is tragic and depressive, it can looks colorful and "childish" but believe me, it's not, it's pretty serious game)

I love the Don't Escape series ! each game has a unique storyline and the game really makes you want to keep playing and playing until you get all the endings, i played the entire series when flash was still around (rip flash) my most favorite was the third don't escape, the further you go into the story, the more invested and on edge you would be. then when you get to the ending, uncover the truth behind why and how the entire crew is dead, youd get chills crawling on your back. the truth would be 'simple' but the more you think about it, the more you look back on the playthrough, there's so much things that click together.
the deep sleep series was amazing as well ! i only played it with my brother when we were younger so i dont remember much (i was also really scared of horror haha) but it was so well made and an amazing experience, if you love horror then i think this is a good series, theres a few cheap jumpscares but i think it wouldnt bother you that much in the long run ^^
unfortunately i cant play the 4th dont escape game (which was shown in the video) however if i ever do get the chance, i definitely would ! and i do recommend anyone to try out the dont escape series as well the deep sleep series !
have a nice day everyone
I really want to recommend another great game. West of Loathing, it's a cool rpg with great humour, and I seriously love it.
Yea it's pretty cool
Such an excellent video, and so many interesting games we've never heard of! Thanks so much for collating this list! We will definitely be checking out some of those point and clicks and RPGs. Of those in the list I have played, RoundGuard and Horace are both absolute gems and wonderful ways to spend hours on end. I can't recommend either enough! Also a couple of gems that spring to mind that would fit on this list - Gibbous and Everhood (though they probably have over 1000 reviews)
I've been looking for a video like this recently! Nice!
"the best SNES-inspired game you've never played" joke's on you, I love Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass
(though genuinely, if you haven't played it it's worth checking out. it's like a cross between Mother 3 and Yume Nikki.)
I’m surprised OneShot wasn’t on this list. It’s criminally underrated.
My cut off was
My dream game would be something with a story and vibe i got from Undertale, Witcher 3, and Night in the woods.
I wish there were more meta lore games. Undertale, DDLC, Inscryption, Deltarune, Heartbound, ect.
@@derpfluidvariant0916 Exactly!
Truly a world where it rains.
as soon as I saw fear and hunger on the thumbnail, I knew this was gonna be a banger,
Awesome video, I just hoped you mentioned strike force heroes it was a very good flash series and the developers are working on a remastered version (its in early development). But anyways I love your videos and your flashlight series
I missed the announcement of the remaster! That's awesome news!
@@2leftthumbs the teaser was posted a month ago and I missed it too until a few days ago when in the middle of the night I remembered this game and searched it on TH-cam
By your request, I played Later Alligator. It' was an absolutely delightful and hilarious experience! Thank you so much!
So going thru my wish list and library I've found:
Shadowgate remake only has 435 reviews.
I am so glad Hollow Knight was a free psn game awhile back, I played the hell out of it and now I almost have platnium trophy for it. (Goddamn Pantheon of hollownest trophy)
Wow finally some games I never heard of
Glad to hear it!
Thank you thank you thank you! I've now bought a couple of these and wishlisted a ton more. I'm very excited.
That's great to hear!! I'd love to know which one stood out the most? Like, which are you planning to play first?
Games like Horace and Battle Chef Brigade scare me a little bit because I've convinced myself I'm bad at skill-based video games, but I hope to give them a shot as well.
Unfortunately, I have a dinky lil laptop that won't run most of these games. So for now, I'm wishlisting most things until I can afford a computer that can actually handle them. (And also impulse-buying a few of them because they look so cool...) Hopefully I'll be able to get a better computer soon!
So glad to see someone to finally talk about smile for me!
The problem with playing games on Steam is that it's essentially a platform for PC, meaning that you can only play the games with a keyboard instead of a controller like a console. :P
You can play like 99% of Steam games with a controller. Store pages even list whether or not a game has No, Partial, or Full Controller support
@@2leftthumbs But doesn't actually seem weird being able to play certain games on a PC, particularly 2D-style platformers? This isn't the 2000s anymore, and consoles are the best way to play those kind of games as well.
@@sonicmario64 Nope. PC is totally viable. Please don't gatekeep people from enjoying games however they prefer.
It was just a fun thing to run through over a weekend.
this needs more views! indie games that are *actually* known by very few players :D
nah man, kingsway is something fresh for me, thank you for showin me such innovatively designed roguelike
also great video composition, you have my like!
You can check it out on Steam.
fellow copy kitty enjoyer
One very interesting game I know, though I don't really know what genre to define it in, is Armed With Wings.
It was originally a flash game series, and the very first game in that series got a full remake on steam that is far better than the original. Armed With Wings 2 and 3 were much better than 1, so if the first remake was this good, I can't wait for the next ones.
More than 1000 reviews but I'd absolutely recommend checking out Little Nightmares. It's a horror/puzzle game with such an intriguing world. Watch a couple trailers to see if you like the look of it, but I promise it is 100% worth your time.
What a good video! Thanks Graeme, I've wishlisted Poisoncraft and many other games because of this video!
Most replayed section is right after party games ends lol
Good video I also recomend:
-knock knock
-omori
-IB
-Demonofobia
-don't starve
-jump King (this one is quite hard)
-Hell is other demons
-one shot
-roguelands or magicite (these are very simmilar because of same developer but both are worth play)
-minit
-the escapeist
-rain world
-rimworld
-Patologic and Patologic 2
-Hollow Knight
-the end is nigh
-super meat boy
-rooten
-neverending nightmares
-reventure
-every Scott Cawton game (especialy Five nights at freddy's series)
If i will find morę interesting games I will updated this comment
Most of these are really popular, even still underrated games like rain world have a huge following
@@chinbag Yeah like a whole lot of people recommending games in the comments everyone in this video would've heard of.
Rainworldrainworldrainworldrainworld truly a world where it rains rainworld rainworld I died more times than I ate.
Fun Boomerang Fu Idea: Deactivate all Powerups except double boomerang, multi boomerang and explosive boomerang, crank that power up spawn rate up and relish in pure chaos
I loved the Don't Escape games. DE4 definitely hit me in the feels the most though
Unworthy visually really reminds me of Gloom, which is a 2D roguelike in a similar style that you might enjoy !
One rouguelike i think not many people know about would be Caveblazers its kinda like spelunkey but more combat focused
I tend to miss indie games due to being bad at leaving my comfort zone, will try some this steam sale.
This video was loaded with cool looking games
Yes Horace is one of my favorite indie games of all time.
a rogue lite I will recommend to my dying breath is streets of rogue. holy shit this game is fun. its not that long (about an hour) which makes it super repayable. it has about 30 characters which all function differently, some more than others. Ive heard it described as a rules lite game which is accurate. you get these objectives at the start of the floor and its up to you how you complete them. sometimes failing them is often the best decision. please play this game
i have a question:
will the classic fancy pants collection include Super Fancy Pants?
I was hoping to see Oneshot in the puzzle games... But was very useful!
I know of Sally Face, but still haven't played it.
It also has WAY over 1000 steam reviews, so wouldn't make the list
@@2leftthumbs I just feel like I don't know anyone who's played it 🤣
speed limit and unworthy looked cool
Quite a lot of interesting titles in here! I downloaded this to watch a week ago for my cruise; I'm gonna have to look into a lot of these later since I have quite the backlog, but I did buy Duel on Board right away cause there isn't exactly a surplus on games to play with my friend one-on-one.
this is really awesome
Gonna check out that Madness game
50: remembering watching a all cutsence by gamer's little playground I thought it was pretty cool and I just saw that character you play as in the game on thumbnail and that why watch this video.
I love the Don't Escape Series
you showed so many cool games in the video but some werent in the list, i felt cheated LOL
I love the upturned by zeekerss
I heard Grime's final boss has over 100 different attacks, wich makes it very hard to predict and dodge them.
Space Gladiators looks like poor man's Hollow Knight
What is the first deck builder game shown right before Slay the Spire? The pixel one.
PLEASE PLAY Hypnospace Outlaw! It's a game that I'm sure you'll love.
You bet I did!
It didn't make the cut, as it has more than 1000 Steam reviews

@@2leftthumbs Oh, Well, There's a sequel in the works. Hope you like DOOM!
I love boomerang fu and with the new update I have about 11 hats per player.
I highly recommend to check Figment, at least for this story, atmosphere and music (this game is tragic and depressive, it can looks colorful and "childish" but believe me, it's not, it's pretty serious game)
I believe theres one of those test based versions of dont escape 4 called wastelander
YES GO PLAY BOOMERANG FU
my little brother has that game and I have played it with him
10/10 would recommend
Thought foodmess had more players but glad it’s on the list
King of the Hat is awesome.
Where's the skeleton crown guy from the thumbnail?
That’s crazy I’ve never heard of any of these

what game is it at 15:17? it looks to be up my alley
Mother reference goes hard
If you like rage games with an invincibility option, play VVVVVV.
Thanks i have never heard about a lot of them. Btw if you would want a sugestion from me rain world is also pretty good
I have a sort of love/hate relationship with The Witness
I’m surprised they didn’t mention a game from the LISA series
With 11,000 reviews, it sails past my limit of
