    A good friend of mine flew a G36 into a night time thunderstorm in 2002 and perished along with two of his friends. In a communication 11 minutes earlier the FAA failed to warn him of the Cat 5. storm ahead. Still in all, it is my opinion that he had the responsibility to know the weather he was flying in. He was instrument rated. Things have changed a lot since then. On a side note, a 4th turned down the week-end hunting trip on Friday morning citing his own personal safety concerns as the reason for not going along.

    I have a question about the comment made, "lean to peak" ... I don't think I've heard the discussion of the difference between "lean to peak" and the other option Rich spoke about... If I had to guess, perhaps it means, lean the mixture until the EGT gauge peaks and leave it there, as opposed to leaning the mixture until the EGT gauge peaks then pull a little more to have the EGT go down again, and then push the mixture back in a touch after that. Thoughts? Answers? Appreaciated.

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your correct but it’s lean of peak meaning continue to reduce fuel flow until temps go down on the lean side of peak temps. You don’t get power and higher cruise speeds, more fuel efficient and cooler cylinder temps.

    Hi Rich, Always enjoy your content. Two questions: First, what about the M350? Second, why are aircraft engines so fussy? My BMW M6 makes 615hp from 4.4 liters and starts first time every time with no adjusting mixture or anything else, hot or cold. (this is a theoretical question - most of the time the car produces about 20% power, not 75%)

      @JRC123- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carburetors

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I put the M350 is in a different class since pressurized but certainly a great airplane. Most newer piston aircraft have fuel injected engines (no carburetors), but lack electronic fuel injection, electronic ignition, and computer controls. Mostly because of the limited market for aircraft, high costs of getting systems certified, etc. so the starting procedures are limited. Thanks for watching.

      Personally, I would not. I’ve been flying for a long time in light GA aircraft with no de-ice (granted mostly on the west coast), and I have had very few times I have had to cancel a flight due to icing condition. I do have clients/friends who operate on the east coast and they have a very different perspective. I guess for me the answer is no, but put me in on the east coast for a while and I would likely change my mind!

    Just curious, why are there less gear up landings in bonanza's vs T210s? Is it a mechanical issue with the 210s?

    • @billtisdale6122
      @billtisdale6122 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mechanical, some gear up landings are forced because of extension failures. Also with a high wing, gear up tend to roll to one side, wing tip catches and more damage/injury potential. Low wing, not so much.
