I have my own OHV repair shop here and love it when I see those old beasts come in. Easy to repair, cheap to. Sometimes they have me big bore them to 100cc. Once in a while I'll buy them for salvage and fix them up so I can sell em cheap and give a kid a chance to have a blast.

Expected it to run , it,s a honda , when it,s not broken it should do what it,s supposed to do.

Thanks. Great little Honda, purring like a kitten now.. I am currently restoring a 1980 XR80 All parts painted now and ready for assembly. Your video has assisted me somewhat. I lost all my close up pics when my phone was dropped. Fortunately my engine is a good runner. I like your hoist as well.

I miss my XR75, it was awesome and people with the CR would make fun of me. I tell ya what I went up more steeper hills on that XR75 than they could. That 1st gear was LOW. Good times. The bike was heavy for its size but that made it super tough.

I loved my old XR 75. It was a 74 model but ran for years. It was around through both of my sons, they each learned on it and ran the hell out of it for ten years or so. Eventually, they wore it out, so I put new top end on it, now my grandson is learning to ride it. Still looks good, just some scratches and dings, but kicks right over easy!!!

I don't know why so many people to forget to use a telescopic magnet to fish out the chain. I enjoyed the video of you working thru it! Definitely glad you saved the ole gal and to get her going again! If this bike could tell stories!

My son has a trash pile find 1982 that was locked up. The piston and rings are trash. Hope to have it bored and new piston and rings. Thanks for the tips on the timing. I don't know how you maneuvered that chain and timing gear in there though!

You did it the right way, I still can't believe I didn't think to go that route. This is what happens when you get old. 😂

Cam gear mark is top of head. Make sure Cam Lobes are both down and piston on TDC and you should be fine. Valves should be shut during reinstallation of head. Easy peasy!! Chain has to be on gear to mount up, lube yhe hellbout of it and put some light lube down cylinder.

  • @t.s.racing

Sir, next time use 50/50 Acetone/ATF mixture.
Pull the left side engine case cover giving access to the rotor and the nut on the end of the crankshaft. Turn either, back and forth lightly until it turns. Honda roller bearing crankshafts rarely if ever have problems. Pull the cam chain tensioner and you can usually remove the chain from the cam sprocket. Often there's a single bolt for the chain tensioner guide, you must remove this as well.
    I hope this helps 🙏

I hear ya, I don't know why I didn't think of it at that time. I guess I'm getting old. 🤪 The Honda Elsinore CR250 we tore down had the left crank bearing rusted stuck.
