    Magnificent beasts, good to see you amongst such solid fish Doug. There are some sea run trout caught here in Oz, but they are not targeted routinely, sadly not close to my home territory anyway. Sea trout is one of my favourite species to catch especially in salt water, they are hard fighting fish. The weed around my area at the moment has exploded recently due to the warmer weather. this is making lure fishing for them quite difficult at times.

    • @robbieallan6522
      @robbieallan6522 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have a similar issue at early summer this green weed dies off and every tide it's a nightmare wether fishing for seatrout mullet or bass, it brings smaller things into feed and we do see some big fish in the evening jumping the wheir but rarely see people fishing as its a graft and I don't know many people willing to put in the effort especially fly or lure fishing as there's alot of ropes and chains running through but occasionally some people do go down put in the effort and get lucky.

    Today you are my favourite person in the world.
    I saw a fish tail out while I was float fishing with prawns.
    I grabbed my spinning rod with the lure you recommended ready to go, within 3 or 4 casts the fish hit it on the drop at full range and went berserk.
    Some time and a few grey hairs later I landed a 49cm (I didn't weigh it) bar of silver, barely even a spot, could of been a small grilse, I don't care either way.
    With your help after 30+ years of chucking every bass and pollack lure know n to man I finally landed and released a game fish from the open sea and I will be forever grateful.
    Thanks you so much 😊

    Love your videos! Looking forward to the summer :D Keen to try out the bombarda fly combination. Was wondering though, when you stop your cast before it hits the water to flip your fly , does it not strain the line on the knot and make it more prone to breaking? what line do you use when you're sea trout fishing btw? Great fight that 2nd one gave you!

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting, I use daiwa J braid 8 strand 25-29lb, which is for my bombarda specific reel. I have never had the FG knot fail with stopping the bombarda before it lands on the water. I do check the braid and fluorocarbon leader before every session just increase. Weakness in the braid or fluorocarbon mainly results from rocks and mussel beds. Hope this helps. That is one of the main reasons I don’t like to use the line clip on the reel as the braid can wear very quickly at the clip, hence the reason I stop it by hand.

    I've just revisited this great video as I am constantly looking for new learnings in relation to the Bombarda. I am experimenting with a baitcaster (overhead reel) with streamer flies. The advantage is zero line twist, but obviously can't get the same casting distance as fixed spool. Is this something you have tried Doug? Interested in your thoughts. Cheers, Mike.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Mike, using a baitcaster is not something I’ve thought about using with the bombarda. The fixed spool reel just keeps things simple and it’s easier to use. Let me know how you get on with the baitcaster though as I’m interested if it has any other advantages.

  • @davidburgess2354
    @davidburgess2354 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another cracking video! I have used salted baits with some success but only when ledgering hard on the bottom and never as lures so I will definitely give this method a try. Have you had success with Bombarda using mackerel or other fish strips other than sandeel?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they all work, but I prefer to keep the strips quite small like the sand eel. If you go too big you get less hookups, don’t get me wrong you will catch fish with a bigger bait but it will be more frustrating with the missed takes. I only missed one take out of 4 which was probably a small sea trout or flounder.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Peter much appreciated mate. I’ve been using the feeder rod lately, as I said purely because it’s lighter than my 11ft lure rod, which can be hard work on a longer session. The rod is a Shakespeare Omni feeder rod with the stiffest tip in the pack of two that comes with the rod, cheap as chips at £25. A few points on using a feeder/match rod rod. They are not made for salt water use so although this rod is cheap, I still look after it and rinse it under the shower after a trip to stop the salt corrosion. The tip eyes especially on most feeder rods are very small, the reason I mentioned that is because I use braid and always use a shock leader, even with an FG knot, which is small in diameter it can work the tip loose after a few casts. I’ve dedicated this rod for the bombarda and super glued the tip in place. Hope this helps mate in your decision before you buy one.

The rod is a Shakespeare Omni feeder rod and I use it with the stiffest tip out the two that comes with the rod. Just a couple of points on a feeder rod, they are designed for fresh water use, because of that I wash it down with fresh water after used in the sea to stop the rod guides corroding due to the salt water. Second point is the rod guides, especially on the tip are very small, if your using a braid to leader knot, it needs to be the smallest diameter knot possible to pass through the guides easily. I se the FG knot.

      Hi Joseph, I use clear sinking most of the time, I don’t go through my whole setup now as I did a video on it to try and shorten my videos

    We were up on Fri morning 6am. 3 hrs using Abu droppen and sand eel type spinners- nothing. It was flat calm and cold that morning so maybe not great. I was getting a cast of about 30 yrs so I was covering water and moving up and down the spit. Maybe just unlucky. My mate caught weed with a decent sized oyster in It! That's a good indicator of water quality. I thought they were extinct around here?

      Thanks for your feedback Fraser, sorry I couldn’t meet up with you guys but had other stuff on. Yeah flat calm conditions mate, always going to be tough and I don’t think there was much tide running, sounds like you did everything you could but that’s fishing mate, there’s always next time.

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing we are heading back on the 19th early around 6am ish. It's low tide then which is opposite to when we were last there. It's just great to be out there in such a lovely area yet it's so close to Glasgow. There's plenty of wildlife around to watch and hear too. We even saw a gun boat which almost swamped the spit with its wake and had us ready to run. I would go up whether I caught or not and so would my mate, a wee hot bovril on the gas stove for the cold helps too!
      We will be using the bombarda next time with a sand eel type fly and allys shrimp type flies. We might try the Scandinavian type chasing fly set up where you've a point fly and a streamer or shrimp perhaps as a dropper, the illusion of a small fish chasing prey thus creating a situation where a sea trout can take advantage of small prey seemingly caught up in their wee battle and therefor easier prey to them. That's the theory anyhoo. We can but try! Might set up a bait rod too if I feel it suits conditions there. I'm a river fisher and this sea stuff is all new to me. I was thinking loch long and loch fyne etc might be wort a shot. I also heard where the two burns in largs run into the sea can produce sea trout even. I'm intrigued and wonder why this isn't a more popular way to get them

      Thanks Robbie for commenting mate, it’s a very productive method, yes agree mackerel is very good but it was in short supply at the time.

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing loved your explanation on way for Sea trout . Used to fish for Bass a lot in co Kerry .and Sea Trout were always a welcome alternative .Know for a fact of a 10lb Sea Trout on a wedge and 8lb fish on a plug .both returned from same place in Kerry

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Intermediate or sinking as long as it is all clear. Some companies call the all clear bombarda sinking and some call them intermediate.

    Douglas I don't know what's going on but I don't get all my replies to your review
    so I'll post it again if you had already read it then just delete it and otherwise you have it now
    again nice video to watch beautiful surroundings and really a very nice one at the end of the video you are a man of my heart i would love to come fishing in your area maybe in 2 yrs when i retire who knows haha
    some questions with a 20gr bomb how many counts do you lower it before you start turning the mill
    And I do have a beach here, but you don't have many oysters here
    which is killing for your lure and your line, compared to your area, a nice trout is occasionally caught here, but not in the numbers as in your area
    I still bought the Zander rod from Iron Claw Prey3.30 and as a reel the Penn IV Pursuit Type 4000 with 12.00 braid from Berkly Typ Blackvelved
    and also came across things on a youtube site that you can get tips and tricks from
    www.wideopen.dk
    in the videos on it about winter/spring trout fishing
    videos include tips, s and tricx for rigs with inline spoons and flies/streamers
    and tight lines for the next session
