This is an excellent film that accurately depicts a small town, high school basketball coach and team in the 1950's. A winning team was certainly the pride of the community. I grew up in such a school/community in the late 1950's. Watching this film brings back many happy memories of those innocent, care-free days. Everything got a lot more complicated after that.

Wonderful comment. It really made me nostalgic for my Pop and all the family now gone. They were an athletic bunch with a few pros and minor leaguers back in the "olden days" but they played because they loved it. Very pure. I wish i saw that in my lifetime
I teach a high school class of remedial students who have a hard time passing the exit exams by the state. I've had a few students like the one who gave Dale an attitude and have removed them the same way. They eventually come back and graduate. I'm not patting myself on the back, but sometimes you have to be badass.

I remember seeing this on a HBO and the "Keep your mouth Shut and Listen" Line. My Dad said "I hated coaches like that" and I thought "Sounds a lot like you and my brother." but I kept my mouth shut . RIP pops
My dad played so many of his high school basketball games there in the 50's - Knightstown, IN. School is right down the street from my grandfather's house.
Fundamental basketball seems to be a thing of the past. 3 pointers and no defense seems to be the only thing that matters today. No hustle and quick to give up when down is the new norm. It is sad. I look to change that where I can.
Oh there's still fundamentals out there. You just can't see them amidst the flash. One of the most flashy players I ever watched (God Shamgod) wrote an article in The Player's Tribune and beckoned young players to focus on the fundamentals. Without them, nothing else matters.
There was a deleted scene showing Buddy asking to rejoin the team. It was cut for brevity. The writers said the producers told them it wasn't necessary and nobody would notice. They said years later this is still their most asked question-- how did Buddy come back on the team?
There is a deleted scene where Coach tells Buddy that he owes 2,500 Pushups and 1,000 Suicides before the next game and he did it.... albiet got assistance from his teammates. One person triumphs we all triumph right.
He comes back after the first game. I always noticed that too how they added an extra player. When Jimmy joined the team it was a pivotal scene in the movie
When those two left and he said "Have fun winning with 5" I wouldve said "Have fun with your boyfriend. What are your names anyway? Neil and Bob? Or is that just what you two do?"
I really enjoy seeing these clips, but I really dislike the volume of the loud outro. It's quite annoying to have an average volume clip, and then an outro that makes me want to turn the volume down. Anyone else?

Didn’t remember Jimmy watching from the side. He’s like the Boo Radley of Hoosiers.
I know Buddy was a complete jerk in this scene, but I love that later on he does everything Coach asks him to do.
