Maybe he's just trying to prove a point to his opponent to not leave his/her head exposed too much? Ya know, knock some sense into them?? Bad joke I know. I'll see myself out now
i dont think the point he was trying to make was: "dont hit your sparring partner in the head". But more like "be careful when you hit the Head, Dont flail on him like a caveman"
I particularly enjoyed this video. I quite like the Messer, and I always enjoy seeing good Messer use. Your Messer use was a lot more like what I read in the treatises than usual. Good binds, winds, and grapples. A lot of videos of Messer sparring I see use it more like a short saber, but you used it like a Messer. Probably my favorite video of yours in some time.
There is not a single type of content that I enjoy quite as much as commented sparring. Stall I would love to see you do more commentary videos on sparrings!
Dude wtf, im subscribed, clicked the bell thing and still i have to actively search for your videos... do i have to send a hand written letter to youtube so they can understand that i, in fact, want to see your videos and be informed when you upload a new one?? Smh
I’ve been watching Forged in Fire recently, and after watching the judges attempt to use the weapons they haven’t trained in, I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be really cool to have Skallagrim as a guest judge in the final round!
Nice sparring and commentary! Skall, you'd have liked the point system they used at National Tartan Day - 2 points for the sword arm instead of 1! Really messed up my point totals - I like a lot of belly shots and upper leg shots (used to be 3 and 2, but both were only 1)...
Wait, two points for the sword arm, and only one for head and torso? Hmm... That seems like a recipe for bad habits... I don't want to be that guy who's pretending to be a keyboard expert, but in the sword-fighting I used to do, hand's didn't even count, as it taught people to attempt solid hits instead of relying on arm snipes. I suppose if you're hit in the hand, you're just as "Out of the fight" as if you got decapitated, but I'm still skeptical... Something tells me this is going to be my shower thoughts for the next week or so. Good food for thought...
Damn Kat and Vincent going at it! I like the aggressive style they have with the longsword and follow-ups they make. Kinda want to make those sparring videos with my own group too
As a hema begginer ive gotta say these are my favorite of your videos, its great to see sparring and hear the commentry on what works and what doesnt. Keep up the good stuff
This is pretty sweet. You are going through this at a speed which I can easily follow. I may be a member of a small minority of your viewers, but I definitely approve of this video.
Calling and editing the sparring matches like this really allows anyone to get into it . I have 0 exp sword fighting but was able to follow along and enjoy the fighting.
I would love to see more content like this! The commentary pointed out so much that I would have missed otherwise because of how quickly things can happen during a fight.
I'm here after seeing your post, I didn't have time to watch it when I saw the notification and kind of forgot about it. Now that I'm here I'd like to say this is a very good video, the commentary is probably my favorite part
good thing i check your actual page after i saw that poll, finally get a sparing video while youtube trying to get me to watch a video from four years ago!
Finally, more sparring. This is how I noticed your channel, and this is what I liked it for. Blade reviews etc. You find elsewhere, but there is pretty much no good commented sparring footage of HEMA on the internet
I honestly wasn't aware of this video until your recent post about it. I really enjoy this, especially with you explaining in detail who got what hits in and how they might have prevented it. I hope a lot more people will follow my example and watch this, I'd like more of that type of content.
I don't know if you'll see this or not, however I'd just like to say that since I found your channel last week I've been binge watching your videos like crazy, this is exactly the channel I've been looking for, and even though I don't have a lot of money right now I'll definitely send whatever I can your way whenever I can, but anyways thanks a ton for the awesome videos, keep up the amazing work!
I had to watch it just now because of late work hours. But DAMN did I enjoy it. IDK why so many ask for these videos, then don't watch them. I hope you keep posting them, but if it's too much effort, you could always move them to patreon only.
i have to say your form and footwork is better than in any of the videos of yours I've watched previously. I personally find injuries tend to increase my awareness of my own body mechanics but whatever the reason keep up the good work!
Ok, this was a really good sparring session; a lot of good back & fourth. And seeing the one-handed vs two-handed was really interesting. AND you (unintentionally) demonstrated what it can be like fighting with an injury. I love watching these. I hope people give you the views you deserve, this is a good quality video. 😁
This is some real neat stuff. But you know how TH-cam is, always having algorithmic errors everywhere and people may not see these right away. This commentary and show of skill is what many of your subscribers may have subscribed for.
Love this. I’m sorry I missed it at first and that it doesn’t seem to be a big number getter for you but I always appreciate when you post this stuff as someone trying to learn as much as I can alone.
Skallagrim, this is the stuff I really like on your channel. Weapons reviews are great, but I like how you use commentary during sparring. it's humble, accurate, and educational. Keep this up! BTW, you're good with the messer so stick with that until you fully heal because it's very entertaining!
This is fantastic. Your content is always so informative. I have been designing an RPG board game with my friends for three years and have been trying to find ways to mechanically reflect the techniques this video displays. Your commentary is invaluable.
I love this awesome stuff Sir! Thank you for the Wonderful content. It is hard to find good content that I enjoy in regards to these topics. Your production quality and accompanying narration is phenomenal. It is sad that your views on these specific videos are not getting the response they should. I can only comment on my account but I didn't see the video until I got onto my home desktop today. I am subscribed and had the notification bell active.
Last video you asked for suggestions - MORE OF THIS! Actually seeing people who have a clue what they're doing sparring is far more educational and interesting than all the hollywood flynning in film
Game of Thrones would be so fucking cool if the fight choreography was done like this, being as practical and realistic as possible. I find this so much more engaging and entertaining than their showy, twirly style.
I only found out about this video because of your yt poll, even though I'm a fairly frequent viewer, but I didn't get a chance to watch it till this morning, and this is one of the better ones you've put up! I wish yt wasn't dog-dicking you algorithmically. =/
I'm glad to be watching this video today. I've just completed a traditional foil fencing class in college, and on the last day we got to experiment with the use of saber and epee. I found I much preferred the epee because of the larger valid target area and the lack of right of way rules. Hopefully I would enjoy HEMA even more, if I get the chance to try it!
Watching this vid makes me excited for some reason. Ive trained for a few years (4-5) in other martial arts like muay thai and i really wish there was a hema club near me. The closest i can get is a club that competes in HMB and many members are part of team australia but they train an hour and a half away. Too hard to squeeze in. Would be a great skill to learn and practice and a great outlet.
I know I will get fencing is shit kind of replies, but as an ex sabre fencer I really like the footwork and posture, however there is no disadvantage in keeping the blade always in front of you, and also aiming for the wrist, since the tip of the sabre is fast, and a swing of a sword is still fast but a bit open and exposed, and in historical context, I think it makes a lot of sense to disable someone by cutting his arm, at a safe distance, you dont stand much chance at penetrating armor anyways. Also lounge can be really useful too to catch a tired, overconfident or lazy foe off guard. Love these videos, cheers!
Daddy Skall is just leveling up his One-Handed
and his two hands (hopefully it heals)
I wish people would watch these sparring videos more.
It would be incentive to post more of them, obviously.
Well, they're my favorite of his videos, so I'd also appreciate more of this content. X3
@@Ranstone, I concur.
They are the whole reason i found and subscribed to his channel, so im inclined to agree. :P
If you really want to incentivize them, patreon and request them there. There's optimizing for views and optimizing for patreons
Way better then i exepected and intense. Maybe they dont know what they are missing
One handed or not , good to see ya sparring again. Right on. 👍🤘
Thanks for the commentary. That was a great class! I didn't even realize I landed the hit on Vincent in that last exchange.
"Repeated impact could cause brain damage" as he repeatedly hits everyone in the head.
Lol
He is playing the long game if all his opponents become retarded he is going to have easier time winning
Maybe he's just trying to prove a point to his opponent to not leave his/her head exposed too much? Ya know, knock some sense into them??

My favorite genre of your videos!
You did well even with a crippled arm!
Lovely, ugh it's so frustrating wanting to train hema when there's no hema club in my town
de donde eres ?
Manuel Toloza I know. The closest one for me is an hour away. So no way with my old junky car.
@@aenaros6845 Temuco Chile

I respect how much info you have in the description that's RELEVANT.
Rhike Mordhau when?
I would like to thank GOD and From Software for releasing the first ever legit trailer of Dark Souls 4!

youtube bell doesn't work properly, dude. It actually doesn't work at all
Keep doing these types of vids please. I love a real understanding of an actual fight
I noticed it only because the poll you made. Awesome video
I don't think I ever rooted for Skall this hard.

Why did they value the sword arm above the rest?
@@Ranstone It's not one for the head.
The head is 3 points, the sword arm and lower legs are 2, and the rear arm, torso, and upper legs are 1.
David because if your sword arm is disabled against an opponent skilled enough to disable it your chances of winning are almost nonexistent.
@@Ranstone Head: 3, Sword Arm/ Lower Leg: 2, Torso/Upper Legs/Off-hand: 1...
Normal: Head: 4, Torso: 3, Leg: 2, Arm: 1...

Sparring videos with commentary was the reason I subscribed to this channel. I'm surprised people don't watch these.
