I raised four daughters and I came up with a genius idea that worked so well. I would box up half of their toys and switch it out every few months. They were so excited to play with toys they hadn't seen for months. It was like Christmas several times a year. AND less clutter in their playroom.
I have seen several youtubers that do this and it’s definitely genius for kids that have a lot of toys or even not so much. I’ve recently binned toys in groups and I keep half of them in the top of my kids closet so she doesn’t have free access to everything. Makes life a bit easier.
It's so funny that you mentioned decluttering before you get more christmas toys etc- I remember every christmas eve during the day I would spend the whole day like massively redoing my bedroom growing up even until I moved out etc. Lol- getting everything perfect etc so I could put all of my christmas presents away- in just the right spots in my beautiful clean room lololol. Now im a mom of 3 teenagers and I just glanced around ....my bedroom which has somehow become a hangout room instead of me and hubby getaway lol and I see empty soda cans and DVDs everywhere etc etc.. guess i need to declutter my bedroom again before christmas- not because i'm getting a bunch of new toys etc lol but because it's messy hahaha!!!
All decluttering involves my kids. We get boxes for donations & garbage & away we go. When we do it this way, I'm always amazed how many toys my girls donate. They keep saying that they want another little girl who doesn't have all the things they do to have fun too. Kids can surprise you. When the donation box is full, we all go drop it off & they are always so happy to know other kids will love their toys. I started this back when they were about 4 & we've done it every year around this time for the last few years. This year they told their Dad not to throw out a big cardboard box because they need it for their toy donation. I love the clean time between the donations & Christmas. LOL Thanks for sharing.
That was so satisfying to watch. Way to GO, Kim! Honestly, I had no idea my mom used to do this when I was growing up. I never thought about why we kept getting toys and the room never overflowed, lol. It wasn't until I moved out and was entirely responsible for my own space that I really started appreciating how clean and decluttered she kept things. And I'm sure I'll still never know all that she did for us kids! Moms are amazing.
That was a lovely comment! My mom would always have me clean / declutter with her - but it always ended up being me telling her I wanted to keep everything! I definitely hoard stuff and keep things for the wrong reasons... but whatever! I have learned how to let go!
You’re doing great! It’s a never-ending process. I’m definitely a hoarder at heart, so there's always at least one pile of unidentified crap that sits around for awhile until I finally snap and start throwing things out in a rage of cleaning fury!
I rotated my kids toy bins. I kept some put away and when they got bored of the toys they played with, I put them away and brought out the stored bins. I also kept some in my van, and they stayed in there. It kept them busy while we ran errands, because they were toys they didn't use anywhere else. Now I buy my grandkids very special dress up costumes instead of toys.
4:20- Woody in the very back looks so done with life😂😂🤣🤣. Hey, at least you found his hat in the other decluttering video, maybe that will make him happy!!😂😂
Good morning Kim! Fantastic job decluttering! LOL, you’re making room for the tiny Roboblox (I think that’s what you called them). I always used to declutter before Christmas ☺️. Have an awesome day!!!🎄🎄🎄
I remember those days of random little toys just being around and missing parts etc. My daughter is still kind of a pack rat. We went through her room the other day and spent a few hours organizing/purging/cleaning. Ended up with 4 bags of stuff to throw away and two big piles of things to donate. Her room looked so much nicer when we were done and she deals with pretty bad anxiety so I imagine it's more calming in there for her now too with less clutter. So funny that you're going to wrap some of those things to give them for Christmas! I would never have thought of that!
if you put the like toys in small dollorstore bins, and label them!! your kids will love to play with the sets!! but you have to put them up high,so they have to ask, other wise they just spill them all!!😉
Some hanging shelves on the wall with clear lables could help. So if they want to play kitchen you only take down that bin to avoid all getting mixed up and nothing played with. Also an idea instead of Christmas toys think of combining that money for soemthing big for all of them such as an outing, xbox, or swingset!
We declutter toys and games and clothes twice a year...just before my son's birthday in July and right before Christmas every year. Literally just did the one before Christmas and it makes me kind of sad to see all of the toddler toys that he has really grown out of over the past year but we have a huge basket that we can donate to some kids in need or my cousin's kids so that is heartwarming.
You have the patience of an angel because all those toys would have been donated lol my daughter has on huge storage bin and when it gets filled we go through and most of them get donated...
Good job I need to do that too! I have problems letting go of stuff and my daughter does too so hard for us to get rid of stuff! I need to just do it when she’s not around since it needs to be done!
YES!! I have the same problem too!! Like-- I spent money on these toys!! but I have to remember that they did get good use out of them, and hopefully someone will love them in the future! I am way worse with clothes... lord.
THE WADS haha yea my daughter has enough clothes for 2 kids!! I just can’t help buying her cute clothes and fun toys it’s my hobby!! Do I buy clothes for myself? Nooo!
Put picture and/or text labels on the boxes so the kids know which toys go in which boxes.. Then make a rule. Max 2 boxes at a time to play.. Then put back stuff before take out next box.. It works.. And as a game tidying and seeing who is quickest is fun.
I buy dollar tree bins and they have a small black cupboard that I'll separate little toys into. One bins shopkins, one hatchimals, one is superheroes/villains,moana,frozen,etc. They're small bins but they love them being separated and I've just taught them to take the bins they want out so they have room instead of dumping all of them. It's worked out great! Theyll even pull all the bins out and pretend the little black cupboard thing is a 3 story house lol
My kids have many of those same toys. I see that shopkin icecream scooter cart. My daughters HAD to have it last year. I found it under the couch about a month ago no idea where the doll is either...My 7 year old and I went through the play room to purge and got 4 garbage bags for donation!!! I would love to get rid of more, but I guess they want some stuff to play with.
I SO need to do this in the playroom. I usually do declutter their toys before Christmas but I haven't had the gumption this year. This video may just inspire me to do it. Thank you!!
We did the clean out about a month ago but we have always made our kids help. We started with our oldest (she'll be 13 tomorrow so there are no more toys in her room and I promise, it's not as wonderful as it sounds 😢)...anyway, we always made her go through the toys and decide what she wanted to send to Santa for him to clean up and give to the children whose parents couldn't pay him for new toys. We've been doing this for so long now that our son (8 years old) absolutely loves going through his toys and picking out the nicest things for the children who won't get much. Actually, his birthday is in November and we cleaned out the weekend after his party and he was packing up some of his new toys because he said that every kid should get something brand new for Christmas. ❤️ His kindness amazes me.
THE WADS I have definitely done it by myself, don't get me wrong (when I re-read my first comment it sounded different than I meant for it to ☺️)There are times when it's easier to throw stuff away without listening to them cry about the crap they haven't touched in six months but they suddenly can't live without! 😂
I had the brilliant (??) idea to wait until after Christmas to declutter the toys, thinking it might help them get rid of more when comparing old stuff with the new stuff. Christmas was seven days ago, and the decluttering has yet to happen. Maybe we'll make it a new year challenge. ;)
I use to have that drum set in my house for years...4 kids...do the math...and I hated that thing but they loved it. And yes I declutter before Xmas which makes me think “why do I do this every year”?
Yes, thank you for your video. I’ve been procrastinating on de cluttering my 3 year old soon to be 4, toys! His grandma bought him a toy every time we went to the store since September and before that a whole 13 months of toys daily or every other day😳 I haven’t even wrap his Christmas toys yet because there is like 20 toys, clothes, and books. 😊
I used to to declutter when my kiddos were smaller. Mine arent into toys niw its on to game systems and clothes and name brand shoes and are supplies! I still have to declutter. I guess we all accumulate stuff after a period of time! Lol 😄😄
I find those kid packed bags ALL OVER my house. It gets the worst right after birthdays and easter. They hold "birthday parties" and "Easter egg hunts."
I feel you with the birthdays near Christmas. One of ours is three weeks before and one is three weeks after. Our baby is luckily a June baby. It's rough.
I recently found you and subscribed to your channel and have been loving all of your videos! I’m a stay at home mom and I can relate to you on so many levels. Lol 💕
Definitely tis the season! I literally just organized and went through my kids room yesterday ha. And then I ordered them some storage cube type things. Cause right now we just use a couple baskets and a big toy bin. And they never play with anything. And I feel so they do is dump the big toy bin out and then walk away 🤦♀️ so I am hoping if they actually see their toys and have them organized they will play with them more and stop bugging me 😂
When I find things shoved in a corner or little toys like shop kind or happy meal toys I either throw it away (if broken or not working) or give it away. Because honestly if it’s shoved somewhere they were playing with it to begin with.
Hey Kim, you and you cousin should snap your sorted out think (which are still fine) and boom - there you have your chrismas gifts - no need to go shopping. Love Salo
I feel you on the shopkins My house had tons of the grossery gang. We have four sons and my youngest loves those and hatchimals. I’m ready to ban them. Lol
I have four kids ages 9, 6, 4, and 2. Their birthdays are all between November 24-January 14. Two December birthdays (the 14th and 23rd.) I can relate to the madness!
My daughter has a play room and it becomes a hot mess. Grant u ots a lot! Better then what it used to be. But it's funny how she plays with almost everything but I should however be weeding through the stuff. Lol
I went through all my kids’ toys about a month ago but I think I’ll be doing that again tonight in prep for birthday and Christmas hahaha, I always see what they have and I’m like agh why did I get moreeee 😂
So glad you enjoy it! I've been doing 5 videos a week of a couple of years now... :) TH-cam doesn't always push the content or even have it show up in your subscription boxes -it's weird, and dumb... but that's TH-cam!! Thanks so much for hanging out!
Omg! I had those same Barbie skates!! Also, we have the exact same Trofast unit from IKEA. The same size green and white bins in the same configuration, lol. Are you sure we’re not the same person lol 😂😂😂 I always declutter before Christmas. I tell the kids they need to make more room for new toys or they won’t get any, ha ha.
Every year before I go Christmas shopping I go through my kids toys and get rid of a lot of them. Then before each of their birthdays ( I have 3 boys) I do a mini sweep through their toys again.
I just found your channel and I don’t know why!! Lol our personalities are SO similar and have now been binge watching! ANYWAYS! We do this every year before Christmas. all of our kids birthdays are exactly 1 month after Christmas so they get 11 months of loving and forgetting about toys.. 🤦🏼♀️
my daughter loves shopkins lol she would be in her glory for all those. I strangely enjoy organizing my kids toys so I never get to declutter. Lol I’m kind of jealous. Is that weird? 😂 Anyway... 🤷🏻♀️ Enjoyed the video as always. 👍🏻
“We have gadgets and gizmos a-plenty” I had to rotate toys as well. I kept a bin or two in the garage and I would rotate them every 6-8 weeks. They never knew.
*I swear I go in with good intentions to declutter the kids toys and then I end up not getting rid of hardly anything. My daughter has about a million stuffed animals and she has an emotional attachment to every dang one of them. I try to keep things organized and in bags and bins and baskets. We still have a handful of toys we haven't even OPENED from last Christmas (like little craft kits and stuff). Alice saw the "horse that walks" and her eyes lit up and she said "I NEED THAT!"....so. That's my life.*
Simple Wife Simple Life My cousin is the same exact way. He can’t remember what you told him 5 minutes ago but he knows the name of the little stuffed pig he got when he was 10 months old.😂
Omg so much work have the kids not go in there for weeks 😹 that is how I fell when I deep clean all there 💩 that we buy them right 🤪 is all about there cute faces when they get new stuff ☺️ happy holidays 🎄☃️🎅🏻🤶🏻
More storage with kids names on them so they put toys away or if they have so many small toys a picture of that toy on storage box ikea have great storage good luck

😮😮😮That Barbie roller skate brought back sooooooo many memories! 😢 #nostalgia

Jacquelyn Tham so glad you like that!!
Same! I don't know why but it feels so good to clean house before a big holiday like Christmas, but it doesssss!
Amen! I need to tidy up messy drawers all around my home!!
Kim, your such a sweet heart. Thanks for bringing up the real meaning of Christmas. I hope yours will always be blessed. :)
I hope you filmed doing the kids room too. I love these kind of videos.
Same. I would love to see Kim do the girls room as well.

My father always wrapped our 'old' toys for our birthday. Until a certain age we never noticed it was already ours... 😁
I always go through my daughter’s room and closet at the beginning of November. Feels so good!
I should declutter my little sisters room and maybe my room today.
i had that big cream colored dollhouse as a kid 🥹🥺❤️ from toys R us . 90s baby here
You have the patience of an angel because all those toys would have been donated lol my daughter has on huge storage bin and when it gets filled we go through and most of them get donated...

I’ve recycled back to Easter basket stockings etc. lol
They make personalized medal holders to hang medals. They’re really cute!

Watching this & thinking “I should declutter my sons room today” 😂😂
They need an award for the most toys in the world. You could get rid of half of it.
My daughters room appears tidy but she has endless pits of rejected toys and this is what I’m dreading!! Watching for motivation 😂❤️

What is the second song? ‘I’m ready to answer for what I’ve done wrong in my life’. I’ve Googled and can’t find it but I love it!
It's amazing right - it's called human after all by sven karrison . :)
I love it! Heard it a few times but couldn’t find it. Thank you so much!!

My cousin is the same exact way. He can’t remember what you told him 5 minutes ago but he knows the name of the little stuffed pig he got when he was 10 months old.😂
she'll have lots of friends and loved ones when she grows up ^_^
Simple Wife Simple Life Alice must be a great child. Can’t wait to have kids.
If the day is rough, find a Kim video you haven't seen. Doesn't matter when it's from - it will change the mood to better.
I totally agree, I always look forward to watching her videos.
