Christi - as far back as Jon Lord, keyboardist with Deep Purple, you will find that many musicians in Metal have had some form of classical music training. You only have to look at Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish. And Jinjer's drummer Vlad was a concert-standard pianist before he was a drummer. In my favourite Japanese metal band Lovebites, most of the band are multi-instrumentalists, starting piano at 3 or 4 years old! Their guitarists didn't switch to guitar until they were 18 and 20.

@@TheVoiceLoveCo You really should check them out. Right from the start, they decided to sing in English because the bands they are influenced by - Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica etc - are either English, or sing in English.
Try "Lovebites - Epilogue Live - Daughters Of The Dawn - Tokyo 2020". It's a big rock ballad that shows off Asami's voice.

I want to tell you something.
I have been a musician for over 40 years and for over 50 years I have been listening to music in various musical genres, jazz, hip-hop, fusion, rock, funk, R&B, ..... but Jinjer is something very special for me, I've only noticed a few times in my life. The band makes "Jinjer music", and all 4 musicians are world class!
thank's for you reaction and greetings from germany and stay safe!

Yes, they are one of those bands who has a distinct sound that's pretty recognizable. For me, Deftones are another such band. I've been a huge fan of Deftones since they released Around The Fur. I've been a fan of Jinjer for about 3 years now but really fell in love with them when they released Teacher, Teacher from the Micro EP. Thx to Micro/Macro, I've gained a whole new appreciation for them as a band.

I would recommend Perennial live from Wacken 2019 ... Just because Tatiana really shows how fast she can switch between styles in this piece. And the rest of the guys also get to show a bit of their amazing abilities. Hmm maybe Judgement and Punishment - Tatiana one take could also be interesting. It's only Tatiana ... well and a cat, but you may be able to see what she does to produce her sound bodywise in that one.

Jinjer performing Perenial live at Wacken 2019 is definitely one that you should react to for live performance analysis.
For song writing and hearing more of Tatiana's range it would be cool to give "I speak astronomy" a listen.
Also watching the official video clip for it would give you an idea of Tatiana's very varied sense of visual spectacle as well.

    Awesome analysis as always.
Usually the guys write the songs first and then Tatiana comes and adjust her awesome lyrics. btw Vlad the drummer is the only one in the band who went to a music school and graduated as a pianist.. hes is indeed an awesome drummer and plays Electric guitar.
Their latest release is a one take vocal performance of Tatiana and the song is Judgement and Punishment.
The way she performs and how she changes between clean and heavy growls is absolutely astonishing.
Please check it out as your next Jinjer reaction.

Not sure about Tatiana, but Eugene, Roman, and Vlad have a "tick" playing in their in-ear monitors. It is there to keep the tempo and gives them the "timing" they rely on so much. They change frequently throughout songs so this "tick" helps them all stay at the same pace. Live metal musicians almost always seem to play a bit faster in live performances due to adrenaline and the occasional drunk band member... Some bands sound better live and it is because they have their timing mastered and don't deviate live. Jinjer is really an innovative band as far as their odd timing and then the beauty that is Tatianas voice - great blend of talent, creativity and innovation.

Choosing English is often a stylistic choice. Bands like Slaughter to Prevail and Gojira have stated that the tone English accomidates is more to their style, where a group like Rammstein is more suited to German sylabic shapes.
Also it makes the off stage interviews fun. Listening to Tatiana wax poetic about Sour Patch Kids is great 🤣

I was going to advocate for "Judgement and Punishment" but I see that it's about to premier! This might be the greatest Saturday ever! Please consider reacting to Unleash the Archers "Awakening" Full band playthrough. Jinjer, Nightwish, and Unleash the Archers give you the trifecta of metal reactions. Other Unleash the Archers songs to consider "Faster Than Light", "Tonight We Ride", and "Northwest Passage". Tatiana is The Queen, Floor sings what she wants, but Brittney Slayes!
You commented on the musicianship in metal so I'm really going to advocate for "Awakening" from Unleash the Archers. The Playthrough video is very balanced between the singer and musicians in the studio and each one of them is next level at their craft.

Most metal musicians nowadays are classically trained and most have been singing or playing an instrument since they were 3.

The band writes the music, mostly the Bass player Eugene. Then Tati listens to the music and gets inspired to write and improves the lyrics and melody. Then they shape it to its finished point.

The band collaborates on the music and usually gives the ideas of the structure of the song and she writes most of the lyrics.
It’s interesting because I think most bands take the lyrics first and build a song for them but jinjer takes the opposite approach and damn if their songs aren’t powerful, beautiful and precise.
I think they do it this way because Tati needs to figure out what lyrics will be growled, screamed, jazzy , heavily influenced by Reggae which shows up prominently in Judgement and Punishment. I’ve heard her sing Jazz with scat , reggae , gospel , pop and brutal brutal metal !
Ok I’m writing a book but I just heard this band two months ago and I’m 54 and I am obsessed with her showmanship and singing , their lyrics and of course the band has the best bass/drum combo in Metal now

Everyone in the band speaks English but Tatiana's English is excellent. I believe it does help the appeal of the band. I also have broadened my musical tastes from watching reaction videos. I have songs in Russian, French, Dutch etc... now in my ipod. Other countries it seems common to be multi lingual but here in the US if it's not in English no one wants to listen. Perennial live at Wacken is a must. Her transitions from clean to growl and back are seamless and the whole band shines

They often refer to themselves as kind of jamming session musicians when writing their songs. Music is first, then Tatiana writes lyrics and sometimes goes to track in the studio without even having a melody, then improvising on the music. She has been a session vocalist in all kind of genres when she began singing. The band once said in an interview, that Tatiana sometimes improvises on the song and that is it. One take. I mean, they are awesome musicians without plan b, they decided at a point to tour essentially non-stop, and they had up to 250 gigs a year plus putting out studio albums, so they are incredibly coherent and melt together the songs so beautifully most probably because of that. Adorable.
I would recommend reacting to "Who Is Gonna Be the One?", the official live video.
A beautiful start of a concert that really gives a hint of how much power this band can develop on stage from out of nowhere. Tatiana dancing on stage like she is genuinely dancing to her favorite band, when she does not sing, which probably is exactly, what happens. :-) Incredible vocal range and power, showing off what she is able to do with screams and growls, very interesting to see the bandwidth just with that. Musically interesting because really all members of the band are featured and the song is very well written.

Hi Christi, another warm and appreciative reaction. I was so pleased to hear that metal/extreme music is closer to your wheelhouse than the last time you reacted to Jinjer. Reaction channels have led me to new pastures but I didn't realise that it can work like that for vocal professionals too. Good for you.
May I respectfully suggest Tatiana's one-take version of the Jinjer track "Judgement (& Punishment)"? I see others requesting it in these comments. The key reasoning is that this version features Tatiana in a recording booth with a fixed camera shot. We get a clear profile view of her upper torso, throat and face. The song structure features clean and extreme vocals so it's both diverse and easy to see what she's doing. As a bonus, it's a nice listen.
Regards from an older metalhead in the UK.
EDIT: 20 mins later and there's a notice for the J&P reaction airing tomorrow. That's mighty quick work! Also the first time I've used the "set a reminder notification" feature in TH-cam. See you on the morrow.

Could you react to Yma Sumac? Please, it would be a great pleasure and joy for Latin Americans. She is an internationally famous Peruvian singer from the 1950s and 1960s, she had a vocal range of 6 and a half octaves. It is said that as a child she tried to imitate the birdsong until she achieved the vocal record proper to the trinar of birds. She had one of the widest vocal ranges ever known in an interpreter, being able to issue notes from the thesis of sopranino, soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, tenor, baritone and bass, was the only person able to make the triple coloratura.

So their song construction is is basically the for another one of my favorite bands Tool. They both lay down all of their tracks and then vocals are added to the track. I find that as in fallible method because with the musical piece makes you feel one way or something about anything, the lyrics will just come right out that.

If you are interested to listen more Jinger songs, the main suggestions are usually “Teacher Teacher”, “Parenial live at Wacken” or “Who is gonna be the one Live”. Both are good songs by Jinjer, and all their songs on Micro and Macro albums are good too. But I stick with my initial suggestion (written before your reaction), please react to “Judgement and Punishment - Tatiana Shmayluk - One take vocal performance. Even if Jinjer has better songs, this one is perfect for vocal coach from a technical point of view for clean and distortion signing. But as you noticed, Jinjer is a band and not only about Tatiana. So this is the weakness of my suggestion (it is about her), but if you react to it, it will open your eyes for futures reactions with Jinjer by having a better understanding of what she do.
You asked us about the writing process and why they sing in English when coming from Ukraine. Short answers : she wrote the lyrics (surely help to deliver emotions when signing), Eugene (bass) has a Translation University degree (must help to translate in English, finalized the song with Tatiana and help her with English accent).
Hope to see you with another Jinjer reaction.

Generally guys bring in some parts or riffs, then jam together and form arrangements. Tatiana listens to the instrumental, writes lyrics, and improvises vocals in the studio.
Recommendations: I Speak Astronomy is an epic song with a lot of changes. Perennial is also a pretty dynamic song, has a cool live video. I prefer the official video, which has more atmosphere, and you can hear the beautiful chord progression more clearly. Finally Retrospection, which is my favorite by them, very heavy, very well written also.

Well it is a curious choice. Cloud Factory is a 6 years old album and the band and Tatina, from my point of view, have evoluate since. This song is all her clear voice and I dont think she belt one time. Highly recognizable but I cannot see the interest for vocal coatch; maybe on Patreon demand. If there is one of her song that is perfect for a vocal coach is "Judgement and Punishment - Tatiana Shmayluk- One take vocal performance". It included clear voice similar to bad water (regular sing voice), her real singing voice when she belt clean and many distortions : scream, low growl, agressive growl, and more. And why choose this single song as a vocal coach? Because it has been taken from a fixed camera showing in continue how does she prepare, her breath technics, and probably good indications of her distorsion technics too. If you do another Jinjer song, please choose my recommandation. Than you will know more about her vocal habilities and versatility.

I agree and only requested it because she liked Tatiana but not the growls so there are very few songs just clean .

There were a lot of things here to look at from a vocal perspective. She played with different tones, did a lot of slides, and even showed some agility at some points. No need to be embarrassed about this particular choice.

@@seanherskowitzpleasekillme4129 you are right, Retrospection is definetly a very good video. Bad water is not a bad song, and actually I didn't find one bad song from them (but not listen all). But I think they get better and better. So you did the patreon request. Unusual song request, since it is one of the few without screams and growls, and also calmer instrumentals, which is definitely stepping far outside their usual music range (even with the genre mixes / diversity of their songs). Gonna drop my usual recommendations, I assume the live ones are of more interest since they're not so heavily edited like the official videos, but they're generally all worth watching with or without reactions.
    Official video suggestions:
    Teacher, Teacher
    Perennial
    I Speak Astronomy
    Pit Of Consciousness
    Judgement & Punishment
    Cloud Factory
    Retrospection
    Sit Stay Roll Over
    Live suggestions:

Who Is Gonna Be The One live

Judgement & Punishment live in Melbourne

What? You're saying that only metal that has no melody or isn't soothing is 'good'? WTF Metal is easily the best and most varied genre of music, what with its myriad of sub-genres. Can you imagine all the music that would be excluded if you removed anything that was melodic or soothing. I don't know about that. To each their own I guess.

    • @frankohero

@@Neal_TH-cam Metal CAN be melodic and or soothing. But that is something other kind of genres do better.
Clearly there are some amazing Heavy Metal Ballard's for example.
I was talking about what sets Heavy Metal apart from most other genres of music.
But there are some exceptions left and right the way.
There are not many other genres that commonly use disharmony, tempo-change or instrumental clashes for example. Punk. And sometimes maybe Jazz.
