If you've got a spare micro cable it can be handy to use. My battery bank has USB C in/out, 2 USB A out, and a micro in. I use the USB C all the time, but sometimes when visiting other people they only have a micro handy. It doesn't get it in the way cos it's on the side and it's been useful a few times. Since it costs them more to put both in, I can only imagine they're doing it for customer goodwill and the convenience it they've lots of spare micro USB chargers and only a couple USB C. Unless they provide their own one? In which case I dunno lol
I think the TH-cam TV UI is a little clunky because of the lack of buttons on the Chromecast remote. Does the guide button on the Tivo remote work in TH-cam TV?
I mean I’m pretty sure it’s better then a fire stick 4K. Looks faster and doesn’t have all the advertisements. It’s really a no brainer. One thing I want to know is if you can control it with a google home mini, Edit: just recieved mine and this thing is way better then a 4K stick, also its really smooth I would say maybe smoother then my old shield tv, don’t know about the new one, but the apps load instantly and stay open in the back ground which is the best thing, so you don’t have to load up a app after you go home.
If I don't watch sling TV at all since I am not in US, is there any reason to take TiVo not other Android TV box? I cannot see somthing spicial in it. What did you think?
You forgot to mention that you can stream on Kodi or other 3rd party apps, it gives Dolby Vision and Atmos on Kodi and Netflix and for 50 bucks it is quite good
Its more than pretty good, it is amazing. Its the sweet spot between a fire stick and a shield. The USB C port makes this the deal maker - allows for adaptive storage to be added and also media storage and it works great. If you use a hub you can have both and use a mouse and keyboard if you wish .. Its the best and even when its full price it still is. No need for a Shield, TV at least and frankly for most folks no need to shell out 199 for a pro shield either TIVO did it

I received the Stream 4K yesterday and the USB port is de-formed so I cannot plug in a USB cable. I contacted support and was told I would receive a replacement after I returned this one, but I have to pay $12.30 shipping fee. It is unacceptable that I have to pay to return their defective product. I got nowhere with the support person so I insisted on speaking to a supervisor and after a long wait finally got connected and after going back and forth she finally agreed that I would pay the shipping fee and I would be reimbursed within 10 days.
The aggregating the content sounds great. Exactly how it should be. Add all your services, then everything comes on 1 screen as opposed to going in and out of apps to check content.
That's why I got it and sold my Ultra Chromecast. A Chromecast with a remote. It's great. As ModernDad said it does 4k. So many tricks you can do with this thing.
One more note and that is It comes with 4GB cloud storage with max of 8 GB storage. You can't add like an external hard drive for more external storage like to add more apps.
Ok, real noob question, but is this device only relevant for cord cutters? If you have cable can it help you at all? Or encourage me to dump cable? I have a TLC Roku smart tv and Xfinity and would be happy to dump it but don't want to miss dvring any shows or missing live sports. Any help you can give?
Basically a Sling Android Box with the TIVO name, the rest of the legal live streaming services seem to be blocked or unavailable, including the TIVO app if you have a TIVO box.
I always thought these were cool but I only watch live TV shows. If it's not live Sports then I usually won't watch it. I'm guessing this would not be for me? Awesome review. I’m not sure about the TiVo dongle earning A place in my home just yet. But, TiVo has definitely earned a permanent residence with me. That Remote is a big reason why. I can have three kids four dogs and two cats all laying on top of me on the couch and with my eyes closed I can still find the Cartoon Network with that remote.You briefly mentioned the skip button on the remote and you barely hit the tip of the iceberg as to what that skip button is capable of of regular TiVo. It is all that and a bag of chips.On the downside of A regular TiVo box loading apps like Netflix, Amazon prime, TH-cam are painfully slow. Slow as in 30 seconds. I very well may throw TiVo another 50 bucks and give the dongle a try for no other reason then to hope the apps load much much faster.
Didn't hear anything about it accessing content from all of your OTA tivo boxes into it's interface, or if it could stream on your network or outside your home on your Android device like the tivo stream box basically fails to do......

Well now YTTV price jump is 65$. NO. That is what I paid for Comcast. Nope, stream means 2 or 3 $5-$10 apps and OTA setup. (my Starz promo was $3.33 for 6months)

We looked at all the live TV streaming services and TH-cam is the only one that gives us any channels we want. $65 becomes $80 with HBO. Still beats paying over $150. Then gonna look at switching to T-Mobile to get another $10 off TH-cam TV. Sling and Philo don't give us any local channels or sports. Would have been nice to get down in the $25 range, but doesn't work for us. My TiVo Stream 4k's arrive today. Then to the Xfinity Store to downgrade to internet only. Then after I switch my Xfinity lines to T-Mobile, I may even look at how much cheaper AT&T internet is. I know it's slower. But I have 100 ft. ethernet cords running from the room with the router through the crawl space to every room in the house. So it might be doable if I can save on internet too. Lowering my home entertainment bill tons! My two favorite parts is the TiVo remote and viewing content from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ all in one menu. I should have us all set by the end of the day. If you're listening TiVo, Sling doesn't cut it for us. How about integrating TH-cam TV into your menu as well? Lol, don't think it's a big deal though. Find "TV App Repo" for Android TV. It creates a Shortcut for each App that is not visible in the Android TV App directory. (ie: the Android App can be in memory but not visible on the User Interface)

Powered USB type C hub. Search for a Samsung Dex capable hub on Amazon. You can even use the ethernet port. Additionally you can use the ethernet adapter that is made for firetv. It all works. Impressive Android TV certified device. Airtv mini is an identical device minus the USB type C. It's manufactured by the same company.
I'm not a big fan my fire stick 4k the only reason I got it because it does Dolby vision. I hate the interface and I constantly have to empty the cache on most apps I use. Does this device seems worth the switch.

Hooked my TiVo up to hdmi and powered up,nothing but a black screen. Tried 3 different tvs to no avail. Contacted TiVo and after on the line with line for 45 minutes and I might add 25 minutes on hold and I gave up. Any ideas,hardware problem?
Try a known good working input on the same TV Try another TV/Monitor - you could be having problems with the HDCP handshake Could try another USB power source too

Yeah I have a Tivo Bolt and was hoping it would be more like that experience but it's definitely a much more stripped-down version for sure. But it's pretty responsive and apps load pretty quickly on it I was actually surprised on how snappy it feels. Hopefully Tivo will keep developing the app so it becomes more useful. If not it's still a good buy imo.
It's a device that consolidates your favorite content, from multiple sources, for quicker viewing access and an improved user experience. Sounds like Tivo to me.
I have to say at first I was underwhelmed with the TiVo app on this device. I was hoping it would be more like my Tivo Bolt is but it's definitely not. But as an Android TV device it's definitely the next best one after the Nvidia Shield and it's definitely faster than the Firestick 4k is and after using it for a few days now I can say that it's worth the price for sure and considering it just launched I will be looking forward to seeing how Tivo developers this device. I'm not surprised it has some problems like no 4k on Vudu but it's all things that can get fixed with updates so I'm not to concerned. All in all a definite buy I say.

The bolt can dvr local tv and/ or cable tv plus stream from most of the popular streaming services. The TiVo Stream 4k can only stream tv and has no local free DVR ability. I have an antenna hooked up to the TiVo Bolt and can DVR up to 600 hours of content and have zero fees to do it.
Anyone out there know if this tivo 4k dongle can integrate (upload somehow) the guide info from a Roamio with lifetime service if I connect the two together via usb port? Or plug the tivo 4k dongle's hdmi into the Roamio?
Well the Ultra just got completely destroyed with the new Chromecast with Google TV at $50. At this point, both are good though I would trust the Google Chromecast to get updates faster than the TiVo.
Good high level review of the TiVo Stream. A few observations after a few days of use. There basic Android TV features work well... For the most part. Where they fail: during setup the audio details to HDR the video is set to 4k 60hz and until I manually set to 4k 30hz the video would skip every few seconds. TiVo said this was a known problem. The Android TV streaming channels app will not allow Sling TV to be selected as a service. TiVo has avoid this as a known bug. In the TiVo side when Sling TV is added as a service in the settings none of the Sling TV channels actually appear in the TiVo Streaming app. Definitely room for improvement!
I've used this for a week now. Great when it works. But unfortunately it is extremely buggy at the moment. Bluetooth audio is always out of sync, freezes using various stock apps, turns on randomly during the day and night. And most importantly, the UI freezes and goes to a black screen. Very frustrating, but then again the firmware version for this thing is at 1.0 .... I'm sure these issues will get fixed soon. Overall it's a very snappy Android TV box for the price.
There is an Android TV by Google device about to be announced t0 replace the Chromecast Ultra. Search for Google "SABRINA"... it has the same Micro and very similar specs.
For me the best I guess it's the Nvidia shield but that's all least $200 if you need something cheap and good could be xiaomi mibox,firestick or this TiVo device

Neither the TiVo 4K nor the Amazon 4K sticks are worth $50.00...I have 4 sticks and an M-16 4K Ultra HD Android box with way more storage...I have 34 apps and I am still under 40% memory use.....You can buy an inexpensive Android Box on sale for $50.00
You’re missing tons of stuff it can actually do in the review you might wanna figure it out more One really cool thing is you can plug-in and hard drive and play your 4K content and use that hard drive as extra storage and there is a few more crazy things I can do but you can figure that out that other ones can’t
I can't stand it. For one, you can't tell the front from back unless the lights are on and you study the thing. The worst though is how sensitive it is - a button gets pressed, or a menu pops up, if someone so much as passes gas.

4K casting is there but no HDR10 nor Dolby Vision casting. Yes, even though the device itself does support both.
I recommend getting it for this alone. The picture quality looks good with chromecast.

Why would anyone use a Cable box DVR when a Tivo has always been a much easier DVR?

all you need for a dvr is one of the streaming apps... youtube tv has unlimited dvr and keeps your recordings for 90 days...

Yeah I have a Tivo Bolt and was hoping it would be more like that experience but it's definitely a much more stripped-down version for sure. But it's pretty responsive and apps load pretty quickly on it I was actually surprised on how snappy it feels. Hopefully Tivo will keep developing the app so it becomes more useful. If not it's still a good buy imo.
It's a device that consolidates your favorite content, from multiple sources, for quicker viewing access and an improved user experience. Sounds like Tivo to me.
I have to say at first I was underwhelmed with the TiVo app on this device. I was hoping it would be more like my Tivo Bolt is but it's definitely not. But as an Android TV device it's definitely the next best one after the Nvidia Shield and it's definitely faster than the Firestick 4k is and after using it for a few days now I can say that it's worth the price for sure and considering it just launched I will be looking forward to seeing how Tivo developers this device. I'm not surprised it has some problems like no 4k on Vudu but it's all things that can get fixed with updates so I'm not to concerned. All in all a definite buy I say.

@@computersoftwaretraining7937 No it's definitely no Bolt! Not even close and yes I did buy a Tivo Stream 4k as I said in my original post. The bolt can dvr local tv and/ or cable tv plus stream from most of the popular streaming services. The TiVo Stream 4k can only stream tv and has no local free DVR ability. I have an antenna hooked up to the TiVo Bolt and can DVR up to 600 hours of content and have zero fees to do it.

How do you set one of these up? I'm used to a wired MoCA setup with my TiVo Network. Are these strictly wireless or can you hardwire them?

If this has Chromecast built in and streams 4k, why is Chromcast still selling a 4k ultra 4k unit for $70?
Well the Ultra just got completely destroyed with the new Chromecast with Google TV at $50. At this point, both are good though I would trust the Google Chromecast to get updates faster than the TiVo.
The only advantage I see over the Roku Ultra is that Kodi comes pre-loaded.
Good high level review of the TiVo Stream. A few observations after a few days of use. There basic Android TV features work well... For the most part. Where they fail: during setup the audio details to HDR the video is set to 4k 60hz and until I manually set to 4k 30hz the video would skip every few seconds. TiVo said this was a known problem. The Android TV streaming channels app will not allow Sling TV to be selected as a service. TiVo has avoid this as a known bug.
In the TiVo side when Sling TV is added as a service in the settings none of the Sling TV channels actually appear in the TiVo Streaming app.
Definitely room for improvement!
I've used this for a week now. Great when it works. But unfortunately it is extremely buggy at the moment. Bluetooth audio is always out of sync, freezes using various stock apps, turns on randomly during the day and night. And most importantly, the UI freezes and goes to a black screen. Very frustrating, but then again the firmware version for this thing is at 1.0 .... I'm sure these issues will get fixed soon. Overall it's a very snappy Android TV box for the price.
thats weird you are seeing those issues... maybe something else is interfering?? maybe it doesnt like a bluetooth device youve added?
The new Google Chromecast TV have the same price and I think it will be a great competitive option for this android TV box

There is an Android TV by Google device about to be announced t0 replace the Chromecast Ultra. Search for Google "SABRINA"... it has the same Micro and very similar specs.

You can't stream Vudu or Fandango now or movies anywhere in 4k which is incredibly crazy to me since it is call stream 4k
Given that the device has just been released, I would say give it sometime until Vudu and Fandango update their apps.

Tivo WON'T be a contender to Roku, until Tivo can offer a way to record TV shows, AND movies!!! Currently, Tivo doesn't give you that option! Roku does!!! Tivo used to be all about recording shows and movies on TV!!!

Neither the TiVo 4K nor the Amazon 4K sticks are worth $50.00...I have 4 sticks and an M-16 4K Ultra HD Android box with way more storage...I have 34 apps and I am still under 40% memory use.....You can buy an inexpensive Android Box on sale for $50.00
You’re missing tons of stuff it can actually do in the review you might wanna figure it out more One really cool thing is you can plug-in and hard drive and play your 4K content and use that hard drive as extra storage and there is a few more crazy things I can do but you can figure that out that other ones can’t

What’s so hard about the Apple TV remote? It’s the easiest to use. Pretty simple without a lot of buttons.
I can't stand it. For one, you can't tell the front from back unless the lights are on and you study the thing. The worst though is how sensitive it is - a button gets pressed, or a menu pops up, if someone so much as passes gas.
