    Sure you can spend less. But for those of us who aren’t M buyers or capable, the Q2 is a fairly interesting prospect. Additionally, it’s not just about the money. This camera offers so much more. Great improvements, German build quality. Excellent resale, which you can’t say about more mainstream products. Finally it’s a Leica, something you keep for years to come. Thank you for the reviews guys !

    Had a chance to borrow a Q2. The first thing I noticed as soon as I got in my hands is how light it is. Most Leica's are heavy, this one is not. The autofocus was great. The viewfinder was very good. Fixed lens at 28mm but with it being a 47mp sensor you can crop the image in post processing and still have a sharp image. It's an outstanding camera for being a 28mm full frame 47mp camera.

    Excellent and very Comprehensive tour of the Q2. (I was a little curious as what function u mite allocate to the top button ... ). A very full analysis; but no negative points (at all) ? Personally I think it’s the most desirable camera I’ve ever seen (in screen). I almost dread actually holding one ...

    Wonder if it'll still fit the grip from the original Q or if I'll have to buy a new one of those as well. I always said the only camera that would replace my Q would be a Q2. Definitely interested in an upgrade. The Q has been the best travel camera I've used. I love pretty much everything about it.

  • @reng6688

    "If a lens works great, why change it..." I'm not sure I can agree with this a 100%. Here is why: every lens in the market has its limitation in terms of resolving power. While this lens might be very sharp when paired with a 24MP sensor does not mean it will performance the same with a 47MP. For instance, Dpreview has just released a sample gallery of this Q2. After reviewing all the images, especially the portraiture ones and the dog images, I've come to the conclusion that it definitely has more resolution but not so much for sharpness.

After seeing your both videos CL and Q2, keeping in mind that in one side You might change lenses, in the other you can not but It came with a terrific 28 f1,7 and also 47MP. So far I don’t know yet which one to choose. Any suggestion based in your experience.? Many thx.

    Leica makes beautiful compact camera cases for the X1, X2, D-Lux, C-Lux, and other Panasonic-made Leicas (the X1 and X2 were made by Leica). Look up the 19554 case for the D-Lux7 camera - it fits the camera perfectly with no room to spare, fully enclosed and protecting the lens, and it looks elegant - not like the old-fashioned camera cases.
    The case I now use that fits my Q2 like a glove is the Billingham 72.

    Beautiful camera and lens. Thank you for the great review. Said that unfortunately the 28mm does not work for me. 50mm or even 35mm would be lovely. I assume Leica does not want jeopardize their sales of M line and expensive 50 and 33mm lenses. I know you could use digital cropping but that is not the same thing imho. May be I am alone in this observation but the new battery brakes the seamless design as well. Loosing the ports completely makes sense. The moment Leica releases a 50mm or 35mm Q I will buy one.

    • @BrainDesmo
      @BrainDesmo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am with you on this logic. Perhaps GFX is a "smarter" buy?
      To that, Q2's 47MP does help better justify its steep asking price.

    • @danyalOFF

      Personally I think even Fuji X100F is smarter buy than compact camera for $5K

    • @RS-Amsterdam
      @RS-Amsterdam 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danyalOFF I agree, I used a Leica Q and own a X100F. Leica Q lens is better and it is full frame 24MP therefor bigger pixelpitch, so better low light performance.
      However, both have leaf shutter, Fuji has build in ND filter, EVF and OVF, great sensor, the Fuji 2.0 lens is made for the X100F camera and overall great.
      However ..... the Leica Q costs 4300 euro and the X100F around 1400 euro's and the Leica Q is definitely *NOT almost 3 x better* .
      Back to the new Q2, I will test the the Q2 too when it is available at my camera store. but that puppy is 5000 euro, and since the lens is the same the sensor and software should be DAMN good to compete.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Check out the previous video we did on the Nitecore USB chargers for Leica. The UL-SL model works with the BP-SCL4 battery of the Q2. You can plug the charger into a USB wall plug (phone charger), in the car, or into a battery bank. I've found this much more convenient than using the camera as a charger when wanting to shoot. With the USB charger, you can shoot with a battery in the camera and another in your camera bag charging off the battery bank. This strategy gets me through a very full day of photography with just one extra battery.

    Regarding WEATHER SEALING on the Q2.
    I did NOT buy the first Leica Q because it was not weather sealed
    Leica claims that the weather sealing is IP52.
    -The #5 represents infiltration of dust, reading: "Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact".
    -The #2 represents protection against infiltration of liquids; "Vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle up to 15° from its normal position."
    Question >>> If my new Leica Q2 allows dust or water to enter through the lens or body joints will they repair or replace camera no questions asked while under warranty (2 yrs correct?) or will they claim '"MIS-USE / ABUSE" if dust or water entered the camera in conditions other than specified in the IP52 standard?
    -
    I carry my camera every day. I walk down dusty streets and roads and often there are winds and or gusts of winds kicking up dust. Also when out shooting in rain I protect my camera under my coat till I am shooting BUT there are often wind blown rain drops hitting the camera.
    Anybody want to offer some thoughts without me calling Leica for an answer?

    Sounds like the Emperor's new clothes to me. There are plenty of cameras out there that do a better job, are more flexible and cost a whole lot less. Pin hole cameras create heavy vignette ifvthats your style but are slightly cheaper, they just dont have a red dot on the front. In reality, owners are buying for snob value, not for photohraphic reasons. Good luck to them, but they should have the character to admit it. PS, i would realy love one too!

      I sort of agree - whilst it could be argued that any Leica is a merely a vanity item for the well heeled - as is say a Hermes handbag - this is still a machine that delivers stunning results for the money. Finely tuned machinery made in limited numbers will always attract a premium price - but it does delivers on quality - and thats why I bought one.

    Please be realistic about the weather sealing. It has a IP rating of IP52. The first number stands for dust resistance and the second number for water resistance. the description for a two rating is "Vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle up to 15° from its normal position." 2 is one of the lowest water resistance ratings. Also the 5 Dust rating does not correspond to full dust sealing. This is a $5,000 camera and with a weather sealing rating of IP52 treat it with the utmost care.

    Somebody needs to come up with a business to mod Leica film cameras to digital. No back display is fine.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leica actually did this back in 2004, with a product called the Digital-Modul-R. It could be fitted to the R8 or R9 film SLR to convert it to a DSLR. Was a phenomenal camera - probably the one that finally converted me to digital. There was also a company in the late 1990s, early 2000s called Silicone Film that aimed to do this with any film camera using what looked like a film cassette with leader sticking out. They didn't last too long.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the Q2, you can use a "virtual" 35mm focal length and still come away with a 30MP image. As far as video, the button is gone, so if you don't want to use video, don't use video. It's inclusion won't impact still photography in the slightest.
