For me it's not the red dot or the snobbery of owning a leica. Reason I had the Q and then bought the Q2 is the fact it made me fall in love with taking pictures again. I take it almost everywhere I go. On full manual it takes me back to simple times when i was was shooting with my film camera. That's why I got this camera.

Coffee Fanatic true true, I bought my Q1 because it is such a unique camera in many ways. In my experience with the exception of photographers, people in general seem to not be aware of the value of a Leica so IMHO its not really an effective way to flex to the general public. If you wanna show off your status - a nice suit, a fancy car, or some tasteful jewelry might be more effective than an expensive camera.

I had the Q1 for two years and now have the Q2 since March - best cameras I owned by far. The files have that organic look, it`s hard to describe why but if you nail a shot wide open it just looks gorgeous. It`s the only camera I bring to vacations and the resolution allows me to crop significantly without a visible loss of quality, lthe ens is that good. It`s quiet, discrete, fast, dynamic range and ISO performance are also very good. Everything I need right now - except I want to go on a safari.

Hey Pierre, thank you for your impressions. I tend to buy a q2 but have one question. Some people say that the special look of the q1 is gone and that the image-look with the q2 is worse. What is your impression and opinion. I would be very interested. Thanks!

@@scholzineuropa lens is the same so it's the same "magic". Sensor renders more neutral and no banding so more room to tweak in post.

Hi Pierre, I had the Q1 and found the autofocus a bit slow, especially in low light. Is the Q2 much better in terms of AF? Am thinking of getting the Q2.

    • @delpierro0815
      @delpierro0815 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ChorchAng I don't think it's much better - You don't get the AF_C performance of my A9 that is miles ahead. AF-S on the Q2 is really good and precise but I don't think it's much better than on the Q. Fast enough though. Modern features like (animal) eye-AF would be great though.

I recently got the Leica Q2 and I love it. I am a fast shooter at different events. I've had to slow down a little to let the camera catch up. I just shot a car show and was glad to see it could autofocus shiny metal surfaces without too much problem. I sometimes had to aim at the black tires to get it to focus or the engine if the hood was up. All in all, it did a good job focusing. The best thing about this camera is that I leave everything set to manual and because the three main settings are on top of the camera I can change something very fast without having to go into a menu and look around for what I want. I was constantly changing the f/stop for different situations and it was so fast to do then put it back to auto if I wanted, same with the shutter speed. I usually shoot with a Nikon D4 and a D810 and love those cameras because I can shoot fast with them. The Leica Q2 is a camera for getting up close to people and shooting slower but getting great results. It has a 47MB sensor which produces 87 to 89 MB DNG files. The JPG files set to large end up at about 12 MB.

I have both ,the Q2 and the 10 mp
Different cameras and rendering of the photos .
Love them both cause they are so different and simple to use .
I had given up on computers attached to a lens ,like Sony and others.
Image quality is astonishing right out of the camera .
Macro capability is great also since I own a restaurant and I am now using it for my food shots .
I also did some long exposure and the images were great and great dynamic range.
    Easy to carry everywhere .

Similar scenario with many luxury items--do I need a Omega watch to tell the time-- no, but it is something beautiful .
Leica always was special and either you like a Leica or you don't. For what it is, Leica is definitely on a different level and the design and feel has that certain flair. Do I have one? I would if I could!
Great video as usual, thank you for it.

The reason people (like me) are willing to pay for a camera are these things....its compact, it’s FF, it’s the highest build quality and best lens (it’s about the lenses) and now 47 megapixels and weather proofing. It has a leaf shutter which is far superior to focal plane shutters, and renders images different. It’s for those not willing to lug camera stuff around all day on vacation! But still want the best image quality any camera can produce. You can’t get better images, no such thing.

  • @tjmanou6422

1000s of videos on TH-cam about Leica and they all pretty much say the same crap, "it's for hipsters, you pay for the red dot, it's a luxury item like Rolex, it's like a manual car vs automatic".... That's NOT the reason why Leica is unique and expensive. it produces MICRO-CONTRAST that no other camera/lens does. Meaning, no matter what megapixel you camera has (more megapix you only appreciate at 100% zoom. and no one looks at an image that close anyway) it is still full of live-like details. I have medium format Fuji GFX 50S. Unless you zoom in you dont really see overall details. I shot with Leica Q2 and it has so much micro-contrast that blew me away. you see ton of details without even zooming in. THAT"S WHY it is so coextensive and is worth every penny in my opinion.

Nice review! I have the same sentiments……the Q2 is a simple camera with manual controls that allows you to focus on the pleasure of taking photos and not having to mess with the buttons & controls. I bought the Q2 for my wife, but I ended up ditching my other Leica cameras and playing with the Q2 more than the SL2 or M10.

Great camera and not so expensive for what it offers. Only its lens value is more than 2500$. Of course the lens can't be removed. The native ISO 50 is very rare with full frame cameras and can deliver great dynamic range with raw files. The leaf shutter permits 1/2000th flash synchronization. Very impressive.
1/40,000th electronic shutter speed and 20 fps with electronic seem good too but I don't know about the rolling shutter.
Finally the 47.3 MP with its sharp lens ensure good photos even with cropping.
The water resistant isn't bad but I would dare to risk such a camera in water.
The 28mm focal length for full frame cameras is ideal for every use. Nearly all smartphones with single camera have a lens around the 28mm (35mm equivalent lens).
The 28mm are not very wide with unavoidable problems of perspective distortion, neither telephoto with restrictive angle of view.
28mm and 35mm are the ideal focal lengths. 28mm for those who prefer more the landscape and architectural photography or 35mm for those who prefer more portraits. The 50mm is good too but with landscape photography not wide enough for most situations.

I’d love to have one, however like the red badge most FF cameras could be argued to be a luxury item , how many really need the 45mp Nikon’s or 42mp Sony cameras ,1% would be generous. Medium Format Fuji if you could call it that even less so. The focal length of 28mm is ideal for me , I’d prefer that over the 35mm of the Fuji x100s .

Leica Camera are always too expensive. BUT Q2 is the exception. What's the price of any other 47MP camera + 28 F1.7 macro lens ? That's not to mention it's flash capabilities (1/2000e) or the size and the weight of this kind of combo in other brands. Honestly, this camera is the best deal you can do.
I'm happy to pay only for pictures features and not for videos ones that I never use. Unfortunately, tests are only made by youtubers who see the world through their own glasses and needs, mainly video oriented. But Leica buyers are above all photo shooters.
I was a M6, R7, R8 and M240 owner but I left this brand 3 years ago because other brands offer better for less price. But I'll probably come back to the red dot because of (or through) the Q2's many qualities, and because Leica colors are among the most natural ones.

It aint cheap but no more expensive than some handbags women carry. It must be a simple camera to use the manual runs just over 150 pages.

I am quite happy with my Olympus OMD EM10ii which also has a totally silent shutter as do many other cameras and it cost a fraction of the price of the Leica but if I won the lottery....would I buy one? Well I am not sure that I would because there are many other camera's out there that are as equally compelling!

Leica Summilux 28mm  f/1.4 lens costs US $ 7,000. The Q2 with a summilux 28mm f/1.7 lens attached to it costs US$ 5,000. 20 years down the road the Q2 could still hold its value.
