  • In this video, I show you how to make a robust but easy-to-make coil winding machine. it is not fully automated but it significantly reduces the time to create a winding. Especially if the wire is thin and many turns are needed like the secondary coil of a Tesla coil.
Simple wooden blocks and a drill internal structure is used to make this winding machine. In a futur,e video I may upgrade the machine and show you the outcome.
My university laptop burned a few days ago. Magic smoke came out of the fan. A fried inductor inside is visible. I am very keen to repair it since it still works with a battery, but when connected to power, the inductor gets super hot. Maybe it is a project for itself.
Loads of master theses on the table, to be reviewed. Hot summer, and lots of work to do. A good dinner in Arnhem and a letter that put a smile on my face.

Fantastic video, that would come in handy when winding inductance coils for ham radio antenna and linear amp projects!

I am honestly impressed by your creativity. This is what will happen when you have a very smart and intelligent mind and you don’t have a lot of resources ,: you must invent something using your head. I really enjoyed your video, because I was getting crazy, trying to be organized and able to buy everything I needed to make a coil winder machine and you have given me the idea I needed it. I already had an old Dewalt drill that was thrown in a corner and now I have just to convert it using your teaching. I guess that you must be quite young: go to university, to study and you will invent a lot of useful things, spending a very little amount of money. 10 on 10,: BRAVO!

Thank you very much. I am happy that you found the video useful. I am not young by age but still young by heart 😜. In soon future I will make a video about how to make a wire tension-er to be used with this coil winding machine. I hope you also see that when I upload it.

Very nice, need to make one myself to wind a new secondary. Hacking a calculator and using a reed switch makes a easy turns counter

    You can Run your wire
    from a spool through a book ,.
.few books makes nice adjustable column ,
Pages make nice clutch/ brake ...
and ... You can ad some
    weight onto
    the book cover.. ( top).
(* transformer or a bag of beans ... or similar ...).

Nice design!Even use it in ESP lab😃

Thanks Yiming 😊. In ESP lab we have a coil winding machine, but it can only be used for smaller/medium size coils.

I put a micorcontroller based turn counter / auto stop on mine, if your interested in it I'm happy to share the design and software.

Thanks, I bought a mechanical counter so that even if i have to go reverse while wrapping the winding it count correctly. I will make a a video about how to make a wire tensioner and will also show this. do you have a video of your design and software ?

Yes, mine counts backwards too! I'll don't think I have a video posted, I'll do one up!

I mentioned it in the video, 0.2 mm, ~ 810 turns in total

Hi, why don't you try Danyk SSTC driver, which uses a half bridge and an IR2153 chip
