The way you deal with losses is what impresses me the most. This is definitely one of the things that distinguishes the mind of a pro from the rest of regular players.
I think it's completely fine if you go for strategies that don't play to your strengths yet. It's not about getting to grandmaster asap but about seeing fun innovative games with strange units or weird strategies that normal players like us can't execute because we don't have the mechanics. So go crazy and lose games if need be - that's fine!
I don't think it even needs to be about making it to GM, necessarily. I'd rather see truly wacky builds that top out at Master, than slightly quirky ones that are viable up to GM. The Protoss/Zerg content has been great for showing wackier strategies.
Would love to see a Supply Block to GM series in which you constantly bully your opponent to be supplied, ignore the eco or the army, just supply block them into oblivion.
Challenge suggestion: Hidden Main to GM. Immediately build a hidden proxy to use as your new main, just letting your "old" main mine til it's attacked, then lifting it off to a corner to feint that you're just throwing/trolling (but really stalling for the hidden main to come online). Like a higher-stakes Bongcloud.
If you open gasless, you need to let that spine finish pretty much no matter what and especially against early ling spam. You should also go up to 4 queens ASAP. This can hold endless amounts of lings even with a queen in the wall and you are still way ahead economically.
This is worth considering, but making nydus worms are *expensive* and you don't get units for all the resources you spend on them. Especially as part of a rush, I think that's too many resources not spent on units or upgrades unless it connects perfectly. Using multiple nydus is more of a late game thing.
Best way I know to force a Zerg into roaches in ZVZ is walling off your second with a fast roach warden. It’s only minerals. Then you start the spire, go Ovie speed, and ling drop. Just to keep the roaches home. And then muuutas
zvz spread out lots of your overlords on the map. Some people zig-zag patrol overlords and get speed - superb scouting and harder to hit with ravagers. Game 2 you held well and were ahead… roaches do better vs lings in higher numbers fights, maybe just wait for higher supply? Those offensive nydus worms unloading into ling surrounds were questionable Awesome games! :)
There's a weird zerg opener I've tried a few times, but would love to see how it fares from a GM: Double extractor cancel into mining with 16 drones til ~1m15s, then throw down a hatch and pool at the same time, only then make an overlord.
Zerg expert here - for that 1st ZvZ, all you needed was a single baneling to pop out of that nydus. Or just exist like it immediately ruins ling flood.
@@ferallhamster970 zerglings surrounded the nydus worm, there's no microing away from a baneling popping out. Baneling vs zerglings is a hard counter, kid.
Man the first game! GG Next up is macro zerg to GM! No kidding I'd love to see that, maybe as skyzerg + ling early, and lategame infestor bonus? Also holy crap the first oppo was mental about losing.
Zerg is, and always was, the most powerful race -- If you can use it well. Zerg have an unlimited skill ceiling, but a high learning curve. There's so much about Zerg most players never use, like burrow.
Try burrow roach and burrow dying roaches. they regen fast while burrowed. If you are good at wack-a-mole and they have no detection you should not lose any roaches. this works really well vs zerg with an 8 roach attack with plus 1 missile (makes roaches 2 shot lings instead of 3 shot, thats 1/3 less shots for a kill!) you can assault the front like this, sometimes get a win. or transition into slow drop the main if they spine crawler the front with mass queens. you can use 3 roaches to block a ramp like terran does with depos and you can even burrow them to let units through lol. this pairs well with corruptor play if you want to play defensively. you can snipe the 3rd while slower roaches stay at home to defend as they cant move out if lings get map control but they will win the fight on the defense
One recommendation i would make (not meant to be a criticism, games are quite cool), is perhaps pulling back instead of pushing. In that second game it was clear he was defending, but you had a great opportunity to step back and defend. Instead you kept pushing. I think sometimes you default back to the win in 6 min series you did before!
Cheese idea: send 3 probes to block the natural and both third locations. Maybe send 2 and put down a pylon. It just sounds very obnoxious and pretty funny
On game 2 would have been cool to see 2 nydus and make a wall around the roaches, like force shield. I know, easy to say as an after the fact. Fun games to watch.
You obviously don’t play online video games… wishing death upon your enemies is standard protocol. I think I wish death upon three 9 year olds today in a single gaming session.
@@MentorX14 if it’s just a “you” thing like you claim…. What was the Protoss player just doing? Being a diiick in video games is pretty common is all I’m trying to say. We all wish death upon each other daily.
Hydra would have been the macro choice in game 1, I think, although I was curious how muta\corruptor would do diving - not well, getting a parabomb and getting out would have been better. Using caustic spray on buildings is a good cheese, but it works much better as a suprise, not so good with rays out. Hydra den pops faster than spire, and and unupgraded hydra suck off creep, and in small numbers, so teching them before you need them is good. Muta glave attack wears Protoss shields down quickly, while hydra do high dps target fire, and split the glitter beams. Corruptors are ok against Voids in smaller numbers, and, of course, Phoenix and capital ships. Also helps when you wreck the opponents economy with cheeky ov drops. Couple banes in the Nydus would turned game 2. Your ZvZ is actually very good, some of the best I've seen, your zerg in general, you should consider switching to a mans race!
I love watching these but i don't play SC. I have an idea for a video, not sure how well it would work. I have a feeling of how trades go based on Thermal's reactions but i don't actually know what's a good trade and what isn't. So my idea, have the stats of trades pop up on screen for a few seconds afterwards, unit losses and resources values. E.g. 5 zerglings = X crystals vs. 10 probes = X crystals, or whatever they are called :)
Why don't you do the one dropperlord elevator anymore? You could probably afford more things to drop. Does the speed of the 2-4 overlord drop make it hit harder?
Bro that guy wasn’t raging at you. You were playing Zerg, which are very similar to glyphids so he was making a reference to deep rock galactic. Die like your mother is a quote dwarves often yell in DRG when facing a swarm of glyphids.
Instead of loitering around you always made the natural hatchery drone mine 5 mineral from a nearby patch while waiting. Is this mineral forever gone when the drone transforms? 😱
recently I've noticed that you are committing to the all in even though you're behind a base and are aware of it. Later in the game if you're that far behind I don't think there's any coming back without expanding as well.
In game 2. for example, when you move drone for taking natural, you mine minerals by it. Can't understand, what for?) You'll lost that amount because drone will morph to hatchery... Can some1 explane this to me pls?) And sorry 4 my English btw
I am unaware of how uThermal sees morality, how he decides if a word or deed is Good or Evil, but if it is even close to the way I see it I am forced to wonder how he does not see this as an exercise in torture for most of the people he plays climbing the ladder. They get super angry, huh? Could it be that they value their time, and have a fairly solid expectation to be playing someone that will not simply beat them to every punch. You know, like a fair fight? Shame on you.
uThermal's next Zerg challenge should be "Creep Spread to GM". He will find it to be the hardest one he's ever taken on.
