So glad in west Australia we are mostly sand! everything is built on a floating slab, concrete footings and a slab with beams to bring slab 2c above footings, lay 2c and your at slab height! Today I discovered your channel and I am now going back on the trowel after a 12 year break, I didn't realize how much I hated supervising civil. :)
Great to see a well thought out out plan for the bad ground your attention to detail is great and good to see the proper job done from one top tradesman to another fantastic work lads great video and top work would work along side you any day keep it up 👍🏻
As much as I like watching what you do I'm so glad here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 we use timber 99% of the time. Once the foundations are done, be it piles or a slab, the walls go up in hours. Built a garden shed for a mate a while back. Start to finish, less painting, 3 days.
Geeze guys, just watching ya'all move those big concrete lintels, made may back hurt so much I had to break out the Ben-gay and my TENS unit. Steve, be careful...remember, you aren't 20 anymore! Great work mates! I've never seen that type of footing done over here, so...verrrry interesting!
It's great to see you thinking ahead using the conco lintels etc steve. That proves you take pride/forethought in your work. Some brickies would just hoy the footings in on the concrete founds(99% I would think)!....well done so far lads👍💯💥💥
Not questioning the logic, just interested. surely the steel in the concrete will rust below ground and eventually blow those lintels up? I used them to span a sewer pipe on an extension and I often wonder about that lol
14:51 Last time a did a working holiday in UK from OZ everyone took the piss out of me because I used Marshalltown 19-12 rubber handle. , before the red plastic and the rubber we had to soak the wooden handles in a bucket of water even during lunch! Always preferred Philadelphia pattern to London pattern even though I was taught with London. 15:18 just 3 4 5 it! lol
How do you know what length a concrete lintel should be? How much of an overhang should be either side? So if a window opening is 1000mm what length should the lintel be??
@@SteveAndAlexBuild the reason im asking is i just roofed my new build in ireland. My block layer but on 6x4 inch conc lintels and had a 200mm over hang either side. But i stepped back my inside reveals so i can return a 63mm insulation so now i have a 150mm overhang on eachside of the inside leaf. I noticed my block layer didnt centre some of the lintels correctly and some of the lintels are 200mm on one side and 100mm overhang on the other side. I prsume 100mm isnt end of the world either?? Im sure it happens alot. Just abit worried as my concrete floor slabs are sitting on the inner leaf and its the inner leaf window reaveals i stepped back 50mm so i cpuld return a 63mm insulation slab. What u think?
@@SteveAndAlexBuild I was concerned with your lifting that lintel into the pocket. They say lift with your legs not your back. A piece of pipe makes a good roller under the lintel instead of a brick. You can also plank over the trench and loop a rope around the lintel and stand over the trench on the plank using your legs to lift only . I work alone almost all of the time and use various strategies to move very large or heavy construction objects. (mostly 24 foot by 16 inch microlam beams lately)
Someone is taking the p1ss using those concrete lintels on top of a reinforced footing
Why ?
Because there is no need for it , the reinforcement in the footing is all that is needed

No need to
