Greetings gents! Nice project. Ya might think about getting a wet/dry vac (10-15 gallon size - cheap) to pick up the water. Would really speed things up for ya'all.) Shame it had to rain on ya. Hope it doesn't mess up the concrete. Nice underlayment! Great job. See ya on the flip side guys. Cheers from your friend in Texas! Hoist a couple of pints for me at the pub. Great video. Can I please ask, we're replacing our solid floor with concrete + insulation + UFH and screed. Which of those layers needs to come up to the slate DPC in the house walls? Many thanks!
Thanks for the follow on Instagram guys much appreciated. 👍 Coming on nicely. That was a lot of concrete.. and a lot of hard work in horrible weather! Kudos to you both! What was the cubic volume and how many barrow loads was it? Did the rain coming down after the concrete was barrowed cause you any issues?
Thanks pal . I think it was about 1.5 cube . Not sure how many barrows though . The rain isn’t ideal but won’t do it any harm . Blazing sunshine is worse for fresh concrete 🧱👍🏽
Concrete in the rain boys got to love the 🤣 been there so many times .you made a good job of it and set the right levels so happy to get home and dry i bet 👍
Hi I'm a brickie who builds houses and extensions. Just wondering why you cut the 1200 gauge DPM in the position you did. Building regs where I'm from states the DPM should go over the internal blockwork at dpc level go down 150mm across the cavity and be cut off 5mm back from the face of the external face brick!, This is your Radon gas barrier , the internal dpc is then bedded on top of the DPM (visqueen) . External skin has weep vents 2 courses below dpc.
@@SteveAndAlexBuild with respect, in Shropshire it's standard practice within the construction industry and county council that a basic radon barrier is installed! I know it's debatable putting one in but if an architect specifies one then that's how I do it. Shropshire is a granite area so perhaps that's the council's paradym of doing things
@SteveAndAlexBuild thank you bit as it stands I have build upto dpc level with a bau cavity. So question is do I fill the 3m door section of the cavity that's there and take the dpm over the outside block ?
Just an observation for all; try not to put any waste water or liquids into a street drain as they are linked directly to the local streams and rivers. Use the foul waste grid systems that go directly to the local sewer plant….
Very good video mate! I've been guilty of thinking I know the floor level and then finding out it's an inch higher/lower😱 love the 4-1 to bump up the slab 👌 Never used that insulation before, looks a bit nicer to work with than the kingspan we usually use. Brilliant work lads and good effort in the rain!
Water cured concrete. That slab will be very strong, but with a horrible, weak finish layer, I would expect. If it is interior, it might be OK. On the floor level, you found asphalt under the house? Is that common? Are your 4x1 lumber actually 1 inch thick, or are they 3/4 inch thick like in the US? Will the difference in floor height/ concrete elevation create a coursing problem at the top of the door?
@@SteveAndAlexBuild …yes noted ground supported, but every slab I’ve laid like that, building control required it to be minimum of 100mm and reinforced (with minim7m of 50mm of cover), over insulation installed…!

Quick question on the door section please ....did you fill the cavity with the dpm dropping down and back onto the outside brick ?
There is no cavity at the door . The internal returns into the doorways and the concrete runs straight to the cold bridging strip in the doorway 🧱👍🏽
