On customizability - this is aimed at consumers who tend to be less than tech savvy on average. If you give too much customizability a lot of users will wind up changing a ton of stuff that they don't realize, then not know how to get back or find what they want. So if corporations actually have data to support this then fine, but it could also be a myth that just gets repeated.

Been using the XA3 with a 7artisans 25mm for my streetphotography. All I gotta say is. If you want a compact camera with interchangeable lenses without having to break the bank, the XA line is your best bet. I would recommend putting a pancake lens on it tho. Seriously makes a good street photography kit. Its look down on because its targeted towards the casual market, but the XA line are a solid still camera.
Ricardo Jose I’ve been rocking my xa-3 with a 7artisan 50 1.8 too. Gotta say it’s a bang for your buck if you want to step up from phone image quality and control your camera more since it’s rather cheap and compatible with lots of cheap third party lens.
Having owned several Fuji cameras and having an X-T30 now (and a few Nikon cameras), I'd still prefer to have the bayer type filter rather than X-Trans. Files would be smaller, processed and loaded more quickly in Lightroom and better detail (ironically) with the raw files due to better compatibility with the various raw processors. I have used Capture One also and while the detail is better with Capture One, it's still not as good as it could be in my opinion and I think it's due to the software not being able to handle those files as well as bayer type. That being said, I love my X-T30 (but wish it had a high quality bayer type sensor) ;-)
Same, I hate X-Trans ) and I own X-T20 + A2 + A1, and yes even this A7 I believe will give you better ISO and details than XT3/30/20... Fuji knows it but they cannot admit it to the public so they try to cripple all their Bayer versions (except for their MF) they need somehow to justify the high price and the X-Trans BS. If they had same body in 2 versions: Bayer and X-Trans I'd choose the Bayer, no hesitations... I hope T200 (bayer) will be better than A7 then I'll upgrade from T20 (x-trans)
Hi Guys I have been photographing for over 50 years so I guess I am not the target audience. I just like to watch the videos that you two produce. It seems to me that any entry level photographic tool needs to substantially out perform a smartphone otherwise whats the point. Nice interpretation of the A7. I believe the real story to take away from this camera is the articulating and...touch screen. I can see this on the xh2, with improved ibis, and...bigger battery. It would crush the competition. And not to be forgotten, improved auto focus...One can only hope... As always keep up the good work and keep'em flying....beautiful family.

Could someone please explain to me why you need to hold a camera at arm's length? Is it about the far-sightedness? Why not use your reading glasses then? Or shoot from the hip for a change.
with the viewfinder it is right at your eyes and more stable with two arms and your face on it, and people for some reason i don't know prefer viewfinders whereas in mirrorless cameras that too with a display they should be practically obsolete
J. T. Yeah but people who buy this camera aren’t going to have the lens arsenal of a pro photographer. Even the 35mm f2 is a push for people who will purchase this camera. People thinking of getting this camera will be misled on the output when they don’t realise they have to double or triple their investment in it.
I disagree. While showing more of the kit lenses would be a plus, I can agree on that, one of the key benefits of Fuji's X-mount in particular is how huge the choice of lenses is. And if someone is really into photography and plans to start with simple and grow into more expensive range they can start by buying and learning lenses, and then simply transition to a new body, while keeping the collection of lenses the same.
Can u guys stick to the kit lens while doing review of budget cameras. I dont think people who are looking for this camera are gonna spend thousands of dollars buying lenses.
For every person that wants just kit lens shots, there is another that complains that we didnt use any others. In the end this way you get the most options and on dpreview in the xa7 sample gallery you can see photos from all the lenses.
IBIS, Sony-like super battery, & finally eye/face AF on par or better than Sony’s that’d be the perfect camera. if fuji keeps making these steady updates and listening they're gonna be on their way to that PERFECT camera
I quite like what this camera is trying to be. I will most likely buy it as my first camera as I am coming from using smartphones for photos. This seems to be a good entry level camera to get more into photography
Yeah like Chris said its a camera companion for people who shoot on smartphones who want extra flexibility in shooting RAW and lens selections. Its pretty sweet tbh
Hi, loved watching the Preview. Just have a question, I just bought the camera a few days ago. I was testing the camera for 4k Video recording. I am unsure if I am missing something with the settings. Any of the 4K recording formats given is recording not more than 34secs video, where they say 15mins. The recording just stops after 34secs and says Hold! Storing...HD videos are recording fine as says. I would love to hear if you encountered such issue or something I am missing out to configure. Thanks.
Hi Dpreview, I read the articles on dpreview and watch this video, but unfortunately there's not even a single mention of this camera's new Bright Mode for shooting images, as well as no single vlogging test. I think most buyer of this camera would like to the camera capabilities when shooting full Auto (new Bright Mode), vlogging test and whether this camera is suitable for youtube content creation.
While I hate the xpro3 solution, this would not be much better. Low angle shot require screen to stick out of side, too conspicuous. Regular tilt or screen from xt-100 would suit that camera

After seeing how Nikon implemented touch on their gorgeous rear LCDs, I was sold. My Nikon D7100 from 500 years ago had at least 2 second buffer in RAW. It's very disapointing seeing Fujifilm artificially hold this camera back like that. And the ommision of the USB-C headphone jack sucks as well. Other than that it looks like a pretty good second camera. But what I'm interested to know is that if the Rolling Shutter in 4K 24p video is better or worse than other Fujifilm cameras like the X-T2 or X-T3. Can you please test that Jordan? Thx!
It's not artificial because putting in less memory saves you money. Unlike actual artificial limitations in recent Canon models that can do 30 fps video but not 24, which is easier for the hardware to do but was removed from Canon's camera software to protect their cinema line. I do like your reviews but it would be good if, when reviewing entry level camera's, that you could use kit lenses so that people can see the results. Most people will buy this camera because it is cheap and a kit is about all they can afford, they will rarely slap some glass on it that costs as much or more then the body.

Loved that the guys covered all of my question marks (e.g. AF speeds, customization, buffer speed , how it handles nicer glass etc.)
This is a great camera for an amateur with an interest in proper photography. If you’re after a point-and-shoot then good as this is, you can probably do better for the price - the auto setting return results no better than my google pixel phone. But the real advantage of this kind of camera is the size advantage over a full blown SLR, combined with the control advantage (and lens choice) over a top end phone. This is small enough not to be prohibitive to take out on a whim. You can mess with setting galore and the results are pleasing in all sorts of light. What I’ve been very pleased with though is that the video functionality is surprisingly good. My company uses this to make social media vid clips, and the results are very pro looking. I’ve always been a Nikon man, but having had a chance now to mess around with this for a couple of weeks I would say Fujifilm are doing a great job in this niche segment of the market. This is well worth a look and if your interested I@ got a link to buy them through @t
"Recorded at audio level 2 of 4" - with internal or external mic? I'm sort of assuming the latter, but thought you'd have done a demo with the internal mic(s) if so?
Just used in a production last Saturday in an indoor low light style shoot. Had all settings set up and when I pressed record things started to go dark and I did have a lighting set up on set. Any help is gravely appreciated before I have to shoot again. Really had to do a lot of fixing in post.
Do you have a recommendation for small fun good video/stills camera? Vs an iPhone 11 Pro? I would expect there should be lots of options for $500 but I haven’t tripped over any. 4K at 24ffps and good dynamic range as a fun invisible camera in public that gets footage that can intercut with better Zcam/BMPCC4K etc... or am I just being unrealistic? IPhone 11 Pro with Filimic Pro app?
Thanks very good review, I am interested in this camera. I disagree with the conventional wisdom that a screen makes for less stable pictures than a viewfinder. I have tested, and I’m actually capable of using slower shutter speeds when using a screen than when I’m using a viewfinder. My arms are straining when I have to push the camera up against my face. (And it is not because I have not used viewfinders, I have been photographing since the 70s.)
This video was very enlightning- what a great review! I am having a hard time debating between this x a7 and the Nikon d5600 camera- any help making a solid decision?! I am entry-level and looking to grow with a camera. More photography than video.
Hi ! What's the resolution of that screen ? 2,760,000 dots means nothing to me. ( @ 2:48 ) Should I divide that by 3 to get the number of pixels ? That would mean it's 920,000 pixels. Which, in 16/9, means 1280*720 (720p). That's good on a 3.5" display ! So why obfuscate that nice resolution behind a meaningless number of dots ??? Hey manufacturers and reviewers, we want the exact resolution of the displays, not "dots" !!! Thank you. ^^
I know this video has been up for a while, but hopefully one of you guys will get a chance to reply. I noted that there is a warble on the audio when Jordan is testing. Was an external mic used? I found that using the internal mic I got no warble, but the internal mic is to great. When I plug in my Rode Wireless go, I get a slight warble, its worse on my Saramonic XM1. I can easily remove the hiss in post with Audacity, but the warble cant be fixed. I though I just had a bad camera, but it seems this warble is normal. I also wondered whether a powered mic would help...? I picked up the camera in a sale, and just wanted a cheap vlogging rig. To be honest, for that and stills, its a great camera, I really love it and sometimes take it in preference to my X-T30 Anyway, hope someone can help!
Reviewing this paired with a bunch of high quality primes instead of the kit zoom seems strange. I'm considering buying it for a family member who just wants a somewhat higher quality point-and-shoot. I guess most people buying this camera will be of that type and will stick with the kit zoom, then maybe buy something like a 55-200 for more reach... I own the 90 and it's an awesome lens, but I'd love to see how this performs with the lenses people are actually likely to use on it...
Am a Fuji fan, I have the Xpro 1 and XT3, initial thought on this cam was it had potential but after that review, I am not so sure. Seems to be caught in the middle and neither here nor there, can’t see a big market for this and considering the price and the competition, target audience, I see more people favouring the A6100
Another good honest review again from you both. This is obviously aimed at those who don’t want to get too tech Nice and simple controls but at a price for here in the UK it’s going to be £600 not exactly cheap. I love the idea it has a nice big screen and easy navigation around the same. Will I buy it.? Maybe that’s for my Bank account to let me know later.!!! 😂
Sometimes I keep thinking to get one of these entry level apsc mirrorless with a high quality 16mm or 23mm to be my compact. No back button focus would be a bummer.
wowowow...I like you guys, but who did the framing at 8:04? Chris has some beautiful antlers coming out of his head. in my book is a big no no for pro and for that matter amateur photographer as well.
Real review starts at 7:00 - I appreciate the attempt to turn reviews into events but I don't recall you taking other brands' entry level models straight into a night time shoot in the first minute of the first review. Recent Canon and Sony models are discussed in much more favorable lighting conditions, which results in a misrepresentation of how these models compare, doing a disservice to your viewers.
Thank you very much, guys! Your reviews are very valuable for my buying decisions. It is very unfortunately that Fuji offers no external EVF. Also, we still have to wait for that ideal vlogging camera.
Yep, it's pointed towards novice user, but as I see it the main problem of Fuji system is that it's a closed system. And while lens choice for professional use is very good and reasonable priced, in the amateur category you'll find either old and slow working lenses, or newer f/2 lineup, which is quite expensive. You can easily find a 100 or 150 dollar fixed prime in Canon's or Nikon's world, but here you have to pay 400. And that's a lot for aps-c crop 35 or 50mm f/2 prime. So, most users are stuck with slow aperture kit lenses, with an image quality of an iphone, or even worse.

This is well worth a look and if your interested I@ got a link to buy them through

"Recorded at audio level 2 of 4" - with internal or external mic? I'm sort of assuming the latter, but thought you'd have done a demo with the internal mic(s) if so?
I'm confused too, since he talked about preamps which are really more noticeable with external mics
Hmm. Its also distorted / sounding overprocessed a little bit - Maybe a faulty preamp?
Flames shooting out from both sides? Oh, don’t worry, the camera is not over heating. But it may feel a little warm to the touch...
Or it's an old skool Sony , we'll sort out the problem with the next A7 ....😎😎😎
Just used in a production last Saturday in an indoor low light style shoot.
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this video!!
At 4:22 , can the X-A7 really shoot 4k for 29m 57s straight?
I’m still waiting for the X-T1 software update, can take 16 mgpx sensor to the whole another level.
Thanks for your review. Decided against buying this after the review and get a better one.
are the photos here already post-processed? or are those SOOC?
Did you guys try to customize AEL? Assigned AEL to a button. It did not work.
Should I divide that by 3 to get the number of pixels ? That would mean it's 920,000 pixels. Which, in 16/9, means 1280*720 (720p).
That's good on a 3.5" display ! So why obfuscate that nice resolution behind a meaningless number of dots ???
Hey manufacturers and reviewers, we want the exact resolution of the displays, not "dots" !!! Thank you. ^^

I got the mint green version. I love the flippy screen and the overall handling.
Hey 😀! How was your experience with this camera 📷?
To be honest, for that and stills, its a great camera, I really love it and sometimes take it in preference to my X-T30
Anyway, hope someone can help!
I can see this on 600usd with the xf 35mm f2 included. Not sure if that's a good deal 🤔. Thinking of giving it as a christmas present to my daughter.
When will the review be out?
For. video, would you take the X-T30 over the X-A7?
Reviewing this paired with a bunch of high quality primes instead of the kit zoom seems strange. I'm considering buying it for a family member who just wants a somewhat higher quality point-and-shoot. I guess most people buying this camera will be of that type and will stick with the kit zoom, then maybe buy something like a 55-200 for more reach... I own the 90 and it's an awesome lens, but I'd love to see how this performs with the lenses people are actually likely to use on it...
Is it good for video/vlogging
Which one is the best Fuji X-A7 or Canon G7-X?
Planning to buy next week, help me guys to decide which one.
Shall I get this or canon g7x mark 2
I’d love to see a comparison between X-A7 and A6100.
Great video. Thanks!
A6100 autofocus destroys it I have both
Did u do post processing for the photos or it's all in RAW?
The raws are up for download, but these are all out of camera jpegs. Unedited.
2:20 Nice. Lots of nice moments. Lots of thoughtful info. Really great job.
Am a Fuji fan, I have the Xpro 1 and XT3, initial thought on this cam was it had potential but after that review, I am not so sure. Seems to be caught in the middle and neither here nor there, can’t see a big market for this and considering the price and the competition, target audience, I see more people favouring the A6100
Wow.. fantastic camera for being an entry level.
your video really help me to determine what camera i should buy >> thanks alot
can you tell me what camera u use to record this video ?
thankssss
Lumix GH5
Is this preview video still shot at 30P? :)
Can you guys do a video on the Z-Cam E2-S6?
Why Didn't you try the 18-55mm lens
Another good honest review again
from you both. 😂
Was going to purchase this for my daughter & her fiancé (pre lockdown) for they’re honeymoon, not so sure now ...so many difficult decisions....
great review! btw what's your main camera man?
Sometimes I keep thinking to get one of these entry level apsc mirrorless with a high quality 16mm or 23mm to be my compact. No back button focus would be a bummer.
You might do better with an upcoming X-T200, which will almost certainly have bbf
wowowow...I like you guys, but who did the framing at 8:04? Chris has some beautiful antlers coming out of his head. in my book is a big no no for pro and for that matter amateur photographer as well.
2:22 Nice B&W shot!
Base ISO is 400? What were you thinking Fujifilm?
That means 250, because fuji is 0.6 stops lower iso than the dial claims.
What is good or bad in this camera..make video please fujifilm x-A7
Real review starts at 7:00 - I appreciate the attempt to turn reviews into events but I don't recall you taking other brands' entry level models straight into a night time shoot in the first minute of the first review. Recent Canon and Sony models are discussed in much more favorable lighting conditions, which results in a misrepresentation of how these models compare, doing a disservice to your viewers.
Guys, please make some quick review of Canon Eos R with 1.4.0 firmware
Which one is better canon eos m50 or fujifilm xA7.
The X-a7 has a bayer sensor, not x-trans. Otherwise, great review.
The slow motion poutine puts a smile on my face.
If I recall the XA5 had a Bayer sensor...are you sure that the XA7 has an X-Trans?
Hi guys newbie here. Just want to ask u guys about this I bought XA7 last January,
Now I notice some problems like when I zoom in my camera I notice that the color is shifting. anyone help?
So the sensor from A6100, A6300 in a fuji :)
Which one is better Canon m5 or this one??
5:27 Wtf is going on in the lower right? Are they trying to summon witches or something?
Why the still photos in this video are not good as moving pictures here?
Is there an EVF option for it?
Wait for X-T200 or whatever the update of X-T100 will be called
Great production and presentation- skills of you Guys. The topic doesnt matter. 😉
The only thing I care about this camera is because my wife wants a vlog camera, and I’m shooting Fuji with a lot Xf lens choices. So, is this camera good for that purpose?
what was the gear used for this video
Lumix GH5
is the battery life worst than XA5?
I you want a fuji but hate xtrans you need to step down to this model i believe?
Nice modelling of the Manfrotto Street (I think I'm right?)
I didn't know the camera emits fire 0:43
Why can't all of Fuji's other cameras have a screen like that?
Would Fujifilm X-A7 worth to pay more for it, in comparison with Canon M200?
It would be good if when reviewing cameras you use the camera to make the actual video. Then we could see what it can do in a real situation
